I mean it is part of the game and other games do have voice integrated in the game for free. Why does eve charge extra for this feature?

I agree but it won't change.. the price is fine.. (for me) its jsut gonna cause too much hassle making corps/alliances sign up globally...

I agree it's bogus to charge extra for a voice chat especially when you already pay $14 a month to play. BUT the extra $1 is honestly not a whole lot to ask. Plus this way you can weed out the spies in your TS by only having people who are flying in your gang in the voice chat. And yes of course you can have spies inside the gangs from your alliance but seems like it'd help a lot.
Plus no body will be spaming alliance channels anymore askin to be dragged or registered.

It's true there is no such mmog out there with voice intergrated chat. So eve has pushed the limits beyond. I believe its up to the players to choose either to click connect or just eve click. Eitherway It doesnt bother me. |

$1 is not a lot im just wondering why since they use the voice on the same servers as the game why it would be extra to us cause it is not extra to them.

most games charge for content update. CCP does not. You never buy expansion packs from CCP. So in the grand scheme of things...VOIP is not costing you the dollars that other MMO's would cost you in expansion prices.

Ohh..?? Please mention one game that have voice integrated into the game for free? You see, I thought EVE where really the first game that have voice integrated into the game at all!
Also, take EQ2 and vanguard. They too offer extra service for a fee. They offer some extra web services, and for that you have to pay like 2-3 dollar a month extra for the whole package. But if you take one and one feature, you can end up paying like 5 dollar extra a month for a feature to add a portrait to your character on their web portal! As you see, most game DO charge extra for extra features. And to be honest. I prefer EVE voice. after all the quality of the sound is way better then TS and vent!
So if I where you, I would at least check around for info before you start hitting the forums with "others charge for free" stuff. They dont. and inmany situations they charge more for less quality stuff!

EVE VOice is run by Vivox. Not by CCP. CCP have cooperated with Vivox in integrating voice with EVE, and tailormade it for EVE, but it is run from a independent server outside CCP.
So with other words, it wont lag the game server side. And minimal client side. And, the lag it will make - if any - will be less then TS and voice, which remember, also do require resources to run.

Running Teamspeak / Ventrillo costs the hoster $ too (for Hardware, Bandwidth). Only difference is they probably donate it out of the kindness of their heart for your corp/alliance/whatever.
Not everyone in EvE has such a person in their corp, and certainly not for solo players.
One thing I'm not looking forward to is the smack in local

the exta $$$ is fine, but the approach in how to collect it is terribly wrong.
eve voice wont be a success until a corps ceo can purchase it for his whole corp and
at rebate.
Tho ccp will propably not solve that. They seem not to care too much about
payment options. After years you still cannot pay for charcacter-transfer or portrait-change with something else than a cc. if they would have accepted paybycash or direct debit for theese (like they do with subscriptions) i would allready have made them
at least additional 60$.

and to the OP, I think the salient point made in this thread is that eve do not provide the service, they are simply incorporating another's into the client. The exact business model of this nobody knows though? (whether they have bought bandwidth with them and are reselling it to us or are just incorporating a service, or whatever)

Its an extra charge as its a seperate server, like someone paying for a ts server. Only now everyone pays a little bit instead of hundreds of people relying on 1 person to fork out loads for a ts server.

Counter strike, counter strike: source, Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142. Sure they're not an MMORPG but its built into the game as a standard feature. You dont pay extra to use the voice chat.
It's not a matter of the quality of other services provided by other companies its the fact that we're already paying a fee to play the game and now they're asking people to pay more. The only reason I can justify paying more is because they need to upgrade their servers and bandwidth to handle the increase in traffic due to the VOIP. $1 from the lets say 60,000 players can provide them with a fantastic server and connection to host it... But with the money we already pay you'd think they could be providing it free of additional charges.

Well all those games you mentioned, BF 2, counterstike, ect. It cost money to run the servers you play on so no , its not free.
