In some stations you can easily see many "docking bays". I think it would be neat to be able to see other players' docked ships.
That's it... simple eyecandy.

Yeah, that way you know what your war target is flying so you can counter it! No I like this idea but it will be abused.

A new skill or option should then allow for covered hangers etc.
Cheers, Bryce.

Well.
Yeah. No body owns NPC Stations. DOCK AT OWN RISK :P

I like the idea, I actually thought about this earlier today when I saw other platforms.

Plus who said you'd be able to see whose ship it is. All you'd see is a ship of a certain type docked and watch it as it undocks. There'd be no way of telling who it is until you see their name disappear from the 'docked' list. Then again at busy stations you wouldn't be able to tell which ship belonged to which player anyways with so much activity going on.
I think it's a good idea and it would make the stations a little more 'alive' at least until we're able to walk around in them.

Human vision is limited (even with implants and stuff), and so is your view of what's in the station. When you're docked, you don't see every single docking platform.

That would be very laggy, especially in Jita; besides, each docking bay is -or should be- separated from the other bays by walls or opaque force-field. Now, with the appropriate skills and modules, you could see in someone else's bay [like.. tap into security cameras feed or make a small hole in the wall/distrupt the shield on a small area and put your own cameras there] with the risk of being caught. Now, if you are caught, the person you spied on can forgive you or file charges, in which case you'll end up in the station's prison for a few hrs [not being able to undock, only 1 chat window accessible: "visitors", corp/gang members will be notified through an eve-mail by concord that you're in jail and give them the statin details (which station in what system you're locked in), and the only way for them to talk to you via chat/eve-voice would be to visit you (eve-mails allowed)] [a new tab should appear next to "Guests", called "Jail" or "Prison". Your corpmembers would be able to bail you out, or even try to rescue you, resulting in their sec status lowered, and you to be classified as "fugitive" for like 2 days, being hunted by concord and not being able to dock at any stations [except at your corp's hq and your alliance outpost].
Took a while to write that

There aren't any walls. Look around in some of the stations (the Amarr ones especially). You clearly see other docking platforms.
It wouldn't be laggy either. There's already ships flying around in the station. All that would have to be done is replace those with ships that people coming into and out of the station are actually flying and have some ships (like 10 tops) of people that are docked on some of the other docking platforms.
There would be no way to tell which ship belongs to who, so there could be an option for to have regular station traffic (or turn it off completely) for people with lower end computers (or just don't like it).
Only one ship per person would be showed on the platform. If someone switches ships maybe have towing drones come out and tow the ship away and tow the new ship out of storage.
I'd like to see this idea, but sadly, I doubt it'll ever happen. :(
