I can see the reason for the changes to nanowebs in the last patch. Unfortunately, this has also damaged the BS salvager -- I normally run a phoon with webs and expanded cargohold IIs. With AB and MWD this used to move at a reasonable speed.
We need either a specialised salvager (destroyer hull, maybe, with 1500m3 cargo), tractors with long range or a speed boost which doesn't affect cargo.

You don't need expanders now, if you salvage a wreck with loot the loot jumps out when you salvage it into a can (You probably know this) so you don't need a lot of cargo, CCP also made it so that salvage materials take way less cargo (0.1 m3?) so a destroyer will be sufficient.

but the idea of a dedicated salavger is nice. 8 hi, but no turret or laundher slots, 3 med, 4 lows, 1000m3 of cargo, and salvager wield and tractor beam range bonuses ~~~~~~ thats a hamster, a generator used by CCP ~~~~~~ |

True, but I would imagine most people loot at the same time. The destroyer still runs out of space.
The loot can thing is good though.

My other idea would be a tractor beam upgrade, somewhat like mining laser upgrades. Say 25-30% distance and 20% speed increase. A phoon could then 3 or 4 of them giving a 40km tractor range.
This would solve the issue and would have no combat repercussions.

-bonus per level to tractor range/speed -small bonus per level to salvage success -bonus per level to cargohold
8 highs, no guns/missiles. CCP should put in some kind of tractoring drone, that automatically tractors things to your ship. :P

Why?
Is there someone forcing you to do this or what?
Don't like it? Don't think it's efficient (for earnings/time)? Then don't do it. How hard can it be?
Am I forced to have any regret? I've become the lie, beautiful and free In my righteous own mind I adore and preach the insanity you gave to me |

A salvaging drone would be good, having a certain amount of cargo space to hold the salvage. Off topic but putting explosives with a remote trigger in the cargo space opens up a lot of interesting possibilities.

Geddon had 3 salvage rigs, 3 cargo expanders and 5 nanos, it's just too slow after the patch. Oh well, adapt and move on. A dedicated ship class for salvage would be grand though, bonus to salvager cycle time, tractor beam range and good cargo hold for looting please.

The best thing for tractor beam range would be for CCP to release the medium & large tractor beams into the market. 40km mediums & 60km large would be great to use in missions.

This would work as well.
I think that there are many options that could be taken. CCP needs to take at least one of them. The nanoweb nerf was basically unrelated to salvage ships, and it's unfortunate that it's caused such problems.

This is truer than you know. Anthropologists have determined that individuals in present-day hunter-gatherer tribes do an average of 4 hours of work per day to feed themselves and their families. The rest is leisure time.

Edited by: Arn''taltsgreat on 25/03/2007 06:13:46 Just jetcan a piece of loot and drag that all over the place with a tractor beam, dump loot into it, salvage stuff into the destroyer, you ever tried to fill a jetcan with loot? >:) A salvage ship would be great though :)
edit: why's my damn alt the default?

Nanowebs? WTF, do you play the same game as the rest of us? You mean nanofibers/inertia stabs I assume.
And just follow peoples advice, dessy or exeq are fine for this sort of thing. No salvage ship needed.

They start with the word "nano" and they look like a web, hence "nanoweb".
I used to salvage with a destroyer, but keep running out of cargo space. I'm not sure it's an answer.

Just been trying out a hurricane (min BC) with a 100mn AB II.
I think I can fit this up to move faster than the phoon AND with more cargo, so perhaps this is the solution. I've got it going 900ms at the moment, although it accelerates and turns like a bathtub.
Perhaps this is a reasonable solution.

As I think someone already mentioned, the destroyer as it is is already an almost perfect salvage ship (I'd say that in fact it's a bit too good).
Fitted with 3 Salvage Tackle I rigs, 3 salvagers, 5 tractors, MWD and maybe cargo expanders, it clears any mission area quickly. If you gather more than the ~500 m3 it holds (after the repeated loot nerfs only a few missions give more), you can drag a can and come back to pick it up in a hauler.
There is a reason salvaging/looting takes time, and that is to basically make players 'pay' for the value gained by spending time to do it (as for all other activities in EVE. You spend time and get ISK/minerals/items in return). This is the basis of all MMORPG's and CCP is unlikely to change it....
General advice: Stop whining! |

Well, I just picked up 2000m3 from a mish.
The point is that CCP just made it harder. and not by design I think.
