This is how I see mining has been nerfed
1) The high cap of Miner 2's now means you have to fit cap boosters in the low and medium slots to compensate. This means no more huge cargo holds or decent defence in the more dangerous systems. So fewer lasers have to be fitted to have decent defenses, so they will keep switching off.
2) The reduction of ores in the empire systems means more work trying to find ore rich areas.
3) The use of corporation rating being factored into the refining amount means people will now have to mine in systems where their corporation likes them or having to haul the ores at low speeds to a system that has a corporation that likes them.
4) His the constant decrease of 5% each week of corporation rating a dedicated miner/refiner will have to speed some of their time doing agent missions just to improve the profits of the refining.
5) The changing of the market where ores are harder to sell and minerals are only bought buy certain corporations. This means that unless the minerals are being used in construction the minerals have to be hauled to a system where they can sell them.
Now individually not to too bad, it does mean that all together mining is harder. Now perhaps this is not a problem as it will create dedicated miners and refiners and haulers, as most corps miner the ore and refine it themselves. However I have found that since 'Caster' I have only done agent missions. This is to improve my corporation rating, as Im not happy at the huge 'cut' the corporations are taking from my refining. As I never did agent missions before my rating is really low. So my choices are either allow a large loss in potential profits, or HAVE to do agent missions.
So before 'caster' and the new Tech 2 equipment and skills I thought that I would not have to do agent missions as there will be a place for me in Eve as a miner/refiner. But I have ended up having to do agent missions anyway, to be a competative refiner and profitable miner.
This is not a whine but I would like to see what everyone else has to say about this. I know not everyone likes agent missions and while I 'always' have a choice, my chioce in this is limited. Its like CCP are saying 'to do well in this game you MUST do agent missions', I find agent missions are of the solo playing style and are therefore very boring. This seems wierd to me that CCP would encourage a solo type game in a many player setting.
OK boys and girls flame away and shoot me down in flames.
PS. I still like the game because of the challenge it presents to do well. But its appeal was the many paths you could choose. There seems to be alot of narrowing of paths now.

That or have a master refiner that do missions only and refine all.

Buy some good Blue Prints and don't sell the refined ore. Build the items and sell them on the market...
If oyu can find the Mega... Battleships will be your main source of money.

So now as well as doing agent missions I now have to learn the bp skills and the manufacturing skills. I thought this game was all about trying to stop people being jack of all trades. Am I having to generalize to get ahead then?

1) The capacitor usage of Mining Lasers is minimal. It's still entirely possible to fit a full complement of the most powerful lasers w/ room to spare. Also, why do you need a "huge" cargo hold? All you need is enough space to hold a single cycle of Ore. I've never had a problem accomplishing this with a minimum of expanders (0-2).
2) If you want to mine for profit in Empire space, Scordite is sufficient. Especially now that you can sell Tritanium for 1.25 or 1.50 per unit.
3) Corporation standing has a minimal effect on refine amounts. Given the new specialized refinery skills, overcoming any shortcomings due to poor standings is exceedingly easy. Unless you have a -10.0 with the Corporation, it's not necessary to haul the ore to conserve a few hundred mineral units.
4) The 5% decrease has already been declared "too severe" by Papa Smurf, who is working on adjustments to the system. Even so, as stated in #3 the difference between refining at a Corporation which you have good standing with and one which you have "Neutral" (0.0) standing with is hardly worth complaining about.
5) Probably the only valid point, but hauling minerals is much easier than hauling Ore. Save up the minerals for a few days, and then spend a day hauling/selling. Either that, or find PC corporations who are willing to purchase your minerals in bulk at a discount provided they do the hauling for you.

Ahh my friend, you really don't have too. Find a supplier who is selling b-ships for a low price. Now, pick as a system where people are losing these ships and gauge the price. Sure you don't have your own BP and you might not make a killing, but you will make a few mil in profit and over time it will add up.

But most can afford to get in on the BIG Deal partnerships. If you are a small corp yopu can probably only get enough mins to build one or two battleships a week anyway. So just get one of the limited bpc deals.
