I'm kinda confused. I got an email saying that I was eligible to sign up for beta access. Then in the fine print I read that only players living in Europe and the US will be granted access. Which sucks as I am in Australia.
CCP what's the deal? Are aussies excluded from the beta?
If so, why bother sending out the emails in the first place, you already have the residential locations of players? I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone. |

I'm pretty certain that keys have not yet been sent out.
I mean, if they were, people would be boasting about it.
I know I would, if I got one. I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone. |

Oustanding issues on this thread
1. Do players need a Playstation Plus account? 2. Why did non EU and US players get an invite if they are not actually allowed in the Beta? (can Aussies participate?) 3. Launch window for the beta? 4. Will EVE-side features of the beta be up for testing on SiSi? Will EVE and Dust players be able to interact? 5. Will the Playstation Vita be part of the Beta? 6. Length of the beta 7. Will characters be wiped after closed beta? 8. When will the Beta keys be issued? \ Bonus question: When will Flamespar get his invite. Look, he made you a handy list. See how helpful he is? I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone. |

Despite appearing like a desperate grab for a beta key. Personally I think CCP should get in the habit of rewarding those players who want to work proactively to enhance the future of the EVE project. Even small things, like giving passionate players the opportunity to participate in the Dust beta, goes a long way to helping achieve great outcomes.
Especially when you consider that most people that play a beta treat it like a free demo, and stop playing the moment they encounter a minor bug, whereas most of the people in this thread I reckon would want to work to see the bug removed and would have great advice on how to do it.
Passionate players will talk about weapons balancing, map flow, possible exploits, and look beyond the question of 'how does this benefit me' to 'how does this benefit the larger meta game'.
(Flamespar for CCP CEO .. Yay!)

Anyone suggest a good game to work on the skills necessary for Dust? I've got MAG and Battlefield 2 at the moment.
I've also got the Lemmings game, which I think will help me train up to lead an alliance. I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone. |

Mr Putter wrote:CCP, any idea as to when beta keys will go out??? Even a, "in the next few weeks, or a few days" will do for an answer! The silence from you about this is very frustrating.
This is just a continuation of CCPs long tradition of poor communications.
My feeling is that they are waiting until the discussions with Sony over microtransactions have concluded before starting the beta. I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone. |

Hans Jagerblitzen wrote:Here's my suspicion. One of the things that recently occured was the recent hiring of a new Chief Marketing Officer, David Reid. His job is to basically oversee the Dust 514 launch from here on out. As a marketer, he's going to be fiercely picky about CCP's public image, how they communicate, what order things are rolled out in, and what announcements are made to which media outlets, etc. You're right, the Dust 514 rollout is definitely one of the communication low points since we were spoiled by Crucible. I imagine though that if the new boss is settling it, he's put a temporary halt in plans till he can review them and put his own expertise to work at tweaking the strategy before signing off and moving ahead. It's in his best interest to try to fire this up as soon as possible - especially now that its his fault if we get too pissed off in the mean time I imagine he'll want to make Hellmar happy and get this circus underway. But yeah. WHERE ARE OUR BETA KEYS, CCP???
It will be interesting to see what sort of marketing campaign David comes up with. I quite liked the 'you're not in Azeroth anymore' approach he took to Rift's launch. I wonder if we'll see a similar tactic, where the marketing campaign directly confronts and dimisses the competition. Perhaps we will see some trailer with a non-dust player talking about how l33t he is due to the large collection of hats he has amassed.
I agree that it's disapointing that we seem to be returning to the communication problems that we are used to (hopefully this is not the case, and it's more due to having to bring the new guy up to speed). I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone. |

Nephilius wrote:Some of you guys really make me chuckle at the elitism concerning PCs vs consoles. "I won't play it unless it's on the PC". Good stand. I guess that gives us people who don't have some really wacky ideas on FPSs and PCs a better chance to get a key. Thanks.
Personally, I played a FPS on PC once...it was an absolutely wretched experience, one that made me swear them off and has been a very easy vow to stick to. If Dust514 was on PC, I would have absolutely no interest in it. For me, a console controller is far more smooth than any keyboard/mouse combo, and there is no need to have a set-up that is overly complicated when it comes to an FPS. There is no need for more than 14-16 buttons anyways when it comes to FPSs. And if you are all about the graphics, then I can't help you. I don't buy games for graphics, I buy them for fun.
Although, I have to admit, Skyrim is absolutely gorgeous on my PS3...
Not to mention that it is far easier to cheat using hacks in PC FPS games (APB at it's first launch was rife with this) I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone. |

Hunter Cazaderon wrote:[quote=Noah Wyse]The only thing I did not want to see in this game is happening - seems like mouse/keyboard will be allowed for the game, not only as a means of chat or something similar.
Now, I understand and fully support that mouse/keyboard combo is the best way to go when an FPS is concerned - but not necessarily so on PS3. As Killzone has shown, a joypad experience can be very satisfying and skill-demanding - NOT that it can measure up to the m/k combo in terms of precision as mentioned before - yet it does bear its own satisfaction upon use.
The question is - why put the game on a console, where 99% of people don't use the m/k combo, cutting down the very reason why you came to the said console - in order to present your game to a new community tens of millions of people strong. Seems rather like shooting yourself in the leg to walk better.
Unless this has been vague enough to be misinterpreted.
I'm so happy that the mouse and keyboard combo will be supported. Not only because you can use it during a match (which is great). But because I was dreading the possibility of navigating through a market with 1000s of items using a fricken controller I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone. |
