I just got 2 "Important" Missions in a row, pretty much the same thing.
The first one, The description says to "Check all of the planets in the solarsystem", I went ahead and checked all the the planets, all nine planets over three times and there were no NPC's to kill.
I petitioned, and have yet to get a reply.
about 2 minutes before I let the mission fail I noticed in people in places a bookmark to a system 4 jumps, after the mission failed this bookmark was removed, I then lost about 0.1 faction and 0.5 corp standing.
I did another mission, same exact thing!
While the description said check all of the planets in the system, I had a bookmark to the next solarsystem, after first checking all of the planets, there were no npc's.
So I go to the bookmark, I find 2 npc's killed them, go back, mission sucess.
Not only that, the bookmark is labled "Location of the slave trader".
Now, Im pretty ****ed that I lost a ton of standing because of this from the first mission and have yet to get a reply on my petition, so if a GM or someone with power please checkout my petition I would be very happy.

The description says NOTHING about a bookmark, and the first time it happened I did not realize it gave me a bookmark until it was to late.

I fairly sure the agent TELLS you he is giving you a bookmark to this mission in thetext you get once you click accept. Did you read that?

Although it doesn't say you'll get a bookmark the actual objective does state that "2 mercenary fighters must be destoyed in Renyn"

Yes, but by the time I realized that it was too late.
I read the description, the description was wrong, by the time I figured it out it was too late. Either way, its not my fault that the description is wrong.

I wish I would have seen this earlier. I just failed the same mission for the same reason. I read through the log and saw "...search planet by planet..." and proceeded to warp to each of 7 plantes in Estene looking for a spawn to happen so I could do the mission "seek and intercept". I read the log and totally went based on what that said never once thinking to see if a BM was given to me or not.
I lost over .2 in Gallente faction and about as much for the npc corp. Unbelievable. I petitioned with about 10 minutes to go as I was completing my third sweep through the planets looking for my targets.

I petitioned with 40 minutes left on the mission, and I have yet to get reply.
Yes, I did "Agent mission in progress" option, and it has been over 6-7 hours since I have petitioned.

I failed for precisely the same reason. I even checked planets in the system the mission was given in since the text says "this system" however didn't find anything.
I too have petitioned but it is only around 5-6am in London so might have to wait until the people wake up.

I had this mission and it took me ages to complete. I discovered the problem was that the npc pirates were in another grid, making it very hard to locate them. I used my scanner and eventually ran into them and completed the mission, but it was very annoying. Perhaps the code should be modified to ensure that the rats spawn well within the designated grid you are warping into.

Hehe ya I was drunk yesterday and running missions and this one was totally over my head.
First due to them being at gates in the past, I immideatly undocked and flew from gate to gate. Upon not finding anything I checked the description again and saw that they were are at planets.. So I went and checked all the planets of "this system".
Nothing.
Back to the description.. oh my this thing was supposed to go down 2 jumps away. Duh. So I fly 2 jumps out and go to all planets of that system.
Nothing.
So I think the mission is bugged and am ready to give up when someone asks me if I didnt get a bookmark, and woha, ya I did. Who would have guessed. Quickly finished the mission and promised myself not to do missions drunk anymore.
But now when I look at it, I see that the description is infact really really bad.

There was a glitch in the mission description for this mission template for 1 day, due to the mission configuration being changed but the briefings left alone (the description was fine until we stopped using stargates in the mission configuration for "secure" systems due to complaints about pirates killing newbies). I believe I have explained this in 2 other threads already on this forum.
This is fixed now.

Trouble is, there are so many people doing missions and posting about them that those threads have already disappeared off page 1.
