Yes, I know there have been other topics, but couldn't seem to find them so started this one to share my great idea ;)
The idea came to me after a gang of 7 of my corp mates were DDed. A small gang like that shouldn't be a target worthy of a DDD so below I propose a few changes that might help that situation.
DDDs are IMO not what they should be. Right now they are pretty much kill-anything-in-sight weapons to be used at any and all oppotunities. There are no downsides to killing a 5 man gang with a DDD as it will probally be recharged before the next 5 man gang, let alone fleet, comes along. Someohow there has to be add an incentitive to save the DDD for when it is actually needed and the 1 hour timer or cost isn't doing it.
One way of doing it could be changing the recharge slightly. Instead of having it recharge fully in 1 hour it recharges in 24 1 hour steps (or whatever, 24 steps in 1 hour intevals were chosen as it gets the point across).
When a DDD is fired for the first time it does so for the full damage. The next time it can fire is 1 hour after, like now, but this time it will only do 1/24 of the damage compared to a fully charged shot. If the DDD is fired 12 hours after being fired it hits for half damage etc. with the timer resetting each time it is fired. So you would have to wait 24 hours before firing another fully powered shot. That would force the titan pilots to actually give some thought to when the DDD should be fired. It remove much of the DDing of small gangs and reserve it primerily for blobs, which is what they were made to counter I believe.
That would also stop the jumpin-DD-jumpout every hour stunt that has been done to stall sieges in systems where no other defenders were actually present.
Now the timer might just be 12 hours or the max dam of the weapon could be upped a bit to make it harder to tank a fully charged blast. A Titan should be a tactical weapon, something only deployed after serious thought. Not something used once per hour to gank small gangs, that's like killing gnats with atom bombs.
