I've never really looked into what they actually are, until today. IT's basically like a ECM Smartbomb, right? Do people actually use these? I mean you could only jam thing withint like 5,000 m. It would be beneficial if you had a few close range inty's on you and you wanted to leave, but besides that, what would they be used for?

I successfully used them to run a gate camp in a badger. I was taken into hull by the alpha strike, but afterwards the tackler kept losing lock. They chased me for 8 systems before I had a BS and BC reinforcements show up and escort me home. There are probably better uses for the mids on a badger though. ;-)

I *think* they are best used versus drones. Or so I have heard. Whether that works or not is another matter. Beyond that few ships will engage below 5km range.

If you put them on a scorpion with decent skills you can get the burst radius over 25km wich means if you park a scorp and a bubble on a gate, your enemies will have trouble locking back.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but what I always thought was that the various bonuses from skills and ships apply only to regular ECM jammers, and not ECM Bursts.

Have tested it. Does not cause drones to lose lock and relock. Aside from that and AFAIK, drones are immune to ewar except webs and scramblers of course. Maybe painters as well. Pretty sure damps don't work on them.

Not if your ECM drones jam the target and then you damp him to hell. Then the ECM burst clears the drones[100% success rate] and they wont relock. ---------------------------------------- Thou Shalt "Pew Pew" |

That is one I hadn't thought of yet. And ECM / Scorp skills work on your ECM burst, and not only on regular ECM.

pair one up with a dampener on a close range setup (as ever the domi rules with this ) for ecm annoyance.
keep your mates out of range if possible tho.

Thats a Templar, the amarr fighter. Its a combat drone used by carriers. If it's lock is broken, it needs to be told to attack again.
But really, that ECM burst scorp sounds very interesting (if it weren't for the fact that they nerfed burst for no reason..).

Edited by: Zirth on 30/03/2007 16:13:29 A few mixed facts and rumours:
The ECM burst isn't affected by either mods, skills, rigs or ship bonuses, I forgot which, I believe it's the last one. It might be a better idea going for the regular lock-requiring ECM.
Apart from that, when I tried a burst on a t1 frigate in a 1on1 on the test server it was rather dissapointing. Not only is the duration 10 seconds longer than regular ECM (20s) (which would be sweet if the jam worked that long), but the jam doesn't even last 20 seconds. It lasts like 1-5 seconds, I got a jam, and he just locked me right back.
Can anyone confirm about ship bonuses not applying to ECM Bursts, and the bursts only jamming people for a few seconds. Cause when we tested it, it only jammed for a few seconds, which means it's kind of crappy. It's still not powerful enough to get a jam everytime, especially not on a BC or BS (strength of 18/20), frigates will get a jam *often*, not always, and even then it only lasts a few seconds, a frig will lock ya right back. Even in combination with dampeners frigates will lock back fast, and battleships barely get jammed. We're also talking lots of med slot-use not going to tank/scram/web/cap.
Haven't really found em useful myself. Drones lock ya right back, and to carry 1 dampener for every drone to make em harmless (which is fixed by re-deploying) will hurt you more than them. As you use about 6 slots for the jam/damp.
Only use for it is if you have luck. You'd be looking at an ECM burst and 3 dampeners, damp rigs and good damp skills, a 25% chance of jamming a BS. Then hopefully put his locking time trough the roof, and hope you get a jam again when he does lock. Still I think using range to stay outside the lock range is alot better, and can be done with less slots and there's less luck needed.

ECM burst are just escape kits really, Burst to get rid of tacklers and run.
Only other use I could see is in tangent with damps or to get rid of drones that are sent against you before you can get EWar on your target.

It works on a scorp. It doesn't work on a rook, falcon or BB.

the best use for an ecm burst is for 1v1's imho, and only if the ECM burst(er) is using a small ship (frig, cruiser w/ halo implants), against a much larger ship (battleship).
you would also need a sensor dampener to make this work better.
For a base raven, not using a sensor booster, a pilgrim can sensor damp, then ECM burst the raven, and it will take approximately 34 seconds for the raven to relock the pilgrim (depending on raven pilot's sig analysis).
This is the reason ECM bursts were nerfed. 3 ECM bursts, and a sensor damp, and your target would never be able to actually maintain a lock on you.

If your in a little group thats flying cruiers and you want to travel without getting caught you can put 1 burst on all your cruisers and use their combined strength to knock off tacklers locks and escape no problem. Knocking off you own lock isint an issue if you dont want a fight. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.
