I like most of Castor, except for one thing: the 2.5 km jump distance at gates. I understand that this change was to make combat at gates more viable, but it also makes deep space mining ops very UNviable. I could accept a 1 1/2 hour round to go 30 jumps each way, but now it takes that long for a 10 jump round trip.
I've come up with a solution to the problem: the Warp Disrupters mods that will be anchored at gates. When a WD is at a gate, the jump distance will be 2.5 km. No WD, the distance is the old 10 km. This way, PvPers can still have gate battles, and miners and indy pilots can still complete long trips within a reasonable amount of time.
Anyway, that's my suggestion. I will now activate my forum flame hardeners and ignore all trolls. |

Actually you missed two things:
1) Warp disruptors aren't active.
2) Try not putting cargo expanders on your industrial?

1) Yes I know, I meant when they come in.
2) I put expanders on my indy cause i want to haul as much ore as i possibly can in the time i can play.

Warp disruptors aren't coming in. At least not in their original format. They will be a structure that a player has to use in order to interfere with someone warping.
As for the rest:
2 Mammoths, 1 loaded with cargo expanders and 1 not.
Mammoth #1: Around 12k m3 cargo and a max speed of about 80-100m/s
Mammoth #2: 6750m3 cargo and a max speed 432m/s.
More than 1/2 the cargo and 4x the speed. Are you sure you're hauling as much ore as possible in the time you can play?

What about bookmarks? Insta-jump bookmarks should still work if there's no Warp Disrupter.
You will have to make your bookmarks more accurate to get you within 2500 meters..
And ofcourse they will be useless for thoughs jumps where you wrongfully jump in at the stargate your going to jump out of.

The pirates are probably going to troll me to death severly about the head and shoulders but with the gates and targeting the way they are now I see little reason for portable warp disruptors.
If you can target an indy you can kill it now and fighitng near a gate is very dangerous due to the warp to distance selection and the fact you never know who is going to come though the gate.
I don't really see warp disruptors providing much of a bennifit. But hey, thats just me.

You ever consider including people besides pirates that might want warp disruptors in your rather slanted view?

Edited by: Saladin on 23/12/2003 19:24:16 I think the warp disruptors will be neat. I can see why frigate pirates dedicated to indy destruction wouldn't like them, since they could be locked onto before they leave the warp disruption range and go to warp.
What I would really like to see is the ability to warp to a pilot in dead space when you pick him up on the scanner. This is the single most important thing needed in PvP and I hope it gets implemented. I'd also like to see this coupled with ships not disappearing when the player logs off. If you want to log off and be completely safe, you need to dock at a station.
In my previous mmorpg's, like UO, players could not evade you by going between two landmarks (i.e. celestial bodies) and staying there. Players who did not log out by creating a camp ground or by going to an inn were at serious risk from being killed.
The option to warp to a ship picked up on the scanner is crucuial in this game. It should not be limited to a module or skill, it should be available for use through the default scanner. People who log out in space should have their ships remain there for at least 10 minutes --------------------------- (c) Copyright Saladin, 2005. Yes, but unfortunately I have a problem with 75% of my jumps. I jump into a system and end up 15km away from the gate to the next system, making my insta BM worthless and forcing me to spend several minutes approaching the gate.

Joshua,
I can't say I'm surprised that you would take a rational, non-political discussion of game mechanics and paint it with your own agenda. I've been told my character is very similar to the description by the author of the book the character name is taken from - it's something I tried to acheive.
