Well, yesterday's battle of F-TE1T is sure to make history in EVE. Everyone who's concerned (and a fair number of people who aren't) are making big threads in the Corporation, Alliance and Organization Discussions forum. Personal experience reports are found by the hundreds.
But you know what would interest me much more? How CCP experienced this day. I mean, everybody saw something big coming. I'm sure that preparations were made to reinforce the node and keep the server alive. On the other hand, nobody saw something THIS big coming. A quick glance on the map around the time of the engagement showed between 1750 and 2000 individual ships in the seven or eight systems nearest to F-TE1T. There were multiple large-scale fleet engagements in addition to the big captial-only slugfest at the shipyards. Over the course of one evening, more ISK went down the drain than all three past Alliance Tournaments have costed all participating teams counted together - probably much more. This might easily be the single largest mass PvP battle in the history of online gaming as a whole.
How did the server technicians in London experience this? What exactly is done to "reinforce a node" anyway? How many GMs were involved with monitoring this event? What are the thoughts of the head developers on this history-making event in their game?
I sure would love to know! Therefore: Devblog, pretty please!

That'd be nice. I'd like to know the devs opinions on both the technical server side of things and the gameplay features that lead to this sort of massive conflict. --------------

That is really a nice question, hope someone has the balls in answering them
as I and a lot of other had the "strong" feeling that the system was closed after a certain number of players inside the system.
and no information why or how or "who" did it ?!
That really gets the "BOB GM" story going that someone from "within" gives their side an advantage ;(

CCP only allowed 700 ships in the same systems. And we all know that if the defensive side is big in numbers, that's the side that is going to benifit the most with such mesures. |

I think it would be a great read.
Find out what they did, what they were doing.
The only thing that would be a big letdown, would be if that they really didnt do that much at all.

i'm suprised there wasnt a fire in their head office
1750-2000 independant inputs in one area is a hellova lot!
but yeah a technical response would be awesome.

Got that backwards. People jumping in through gates have the advantage to people getting into the system by logging in, so the defenders are at a huge disadvantage because they are already in the system and can't get in while the attackers are outside the system and can get in. _____ Lifewire is a big, ugly, mean... carebear. |

The cap has been in place for several months now. The attackers made the choice of jumping in knowing full well there was a cap(and if they didnt, l2read), so lets not go there shall we. ______________

For the side claiming victory, the coalition sure whines a lot about lag.
You would think it only affected them.

On the 700 ship limit deal I do not remember reading about CCP placing that in (but of course I may have missed it).
Is it a good thing? Hard to decide.
On the one hand I remember the accusations of an Alliance crashing a node and then utilizing that to get back in game fast to their advantage. Did they do it on purpose (crash the node)? Hard to say but anyone who has played awhile had to see that coming. In the interests if the game it makes sense for the Devs to protect the node and not allow that sort of metagaming to be possible.
On the flip side first person to stack a system with the most ships wins with a cap in place. Generally this will probably be defenders but may not be. Allows for a whole different sort of metagaming.
Dunno and not crying foul either way. Will be interesting to see how this develops.

The 700er limit should be relativly easy to test in Jita. Just call all the people you know over to Jita and check out what happens when local gets to the magical limit.

Where there ever actually 700 people in F-TE1T? Highly unlikely. -----
