Last night I ran my first level 3 missions evah! Normally I would pull up in my Rupture however since I wasn't sure what to expect I undocked my Cyclone and warped into the encounter area.
Like my Rupture my Cyclone sports ACs. I like getting in close with the enemy so I mounted 5 x 220mm ACs up top. The first pack aggro'd when I exited warp. They didn't look all that bad so I mad some targets, got in range and opened fired. Everything was missing!
I added velocity to my overview settings. Speeds were certainly much higher then level 2 missions. And of course since I wasn't expecting this so I wasn't sporting a statis.
I was still surprised that my 220s couldn't hit their target. I steered away from mounting 425s just to avoid this.
This makes me wonder if a missile boat would be a better choice for mission running.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
BTW... level 3 mission rewards are great. Especially after I salvaged the ships.

You could try a web, although that will interfere with your shield tank. Or drones. But yes, this is one of the reasons people prefer the Drake for missionrunning.

As you say a web would have fixed the problem for you. Also what range did you try to keep? I would suggest around 5km with medium ACs.
Missiles are good for missions but ACs work well too, but most people will go with artillery over ACs because of the insane ammo usage which will both limit you cargo space for looting etc and if it's a really long mission you might even have to go back and pick up more ammo. ---------------------------------------- A Guide to Scan Probing in Revelations |

I'm sure I'm not being original, but as of last night I use a Drake, with:
5 x Heavy Assault launchers 2 x Heavy launchers 1 x Webber
The HLs are to tag an enemy group from distance (if required), then when I'm at close range I pick one bad guy, web him, then pour on the Assault Missile love. Rinse and repeat until done. Up to now I've always sniped at mission rats from as far away as possible, so its refreshing to be able to get stuck in and play hell.
That said, if you put a webber on your current setup you would most likely achieve similarly destruct-tastic results.

Originally by: Vasiliyan You could try a web, although that will interfere with your shield tank. Or drones.
There are also Tracking Computers (mid slot) and Tracking Enhancers (low slot) that will help turrets track. Whether that is enough you just have to try to find out.
Beyond that I generally use drones for the frigs in missions and my main guns for everything else. A web will certainly help and with that my med guns pretty much hit anything in a mission. I also try to pop as many frigs on their way in as I can with main guns (some always get through though).
As for your Overview get Transversal to show. Speed stat is fine but it is Transversal that affects your tracking. After a bit you will get a sense of where your guns start to lose effectiveness.

I use a Cyclone with either autocannons (425mm) or arties (650mm) and i get tons of hits. I have motion prediction IV. and i put a tracking computer in one of the low slots.
Try it out and you may find that it works out for you. the arties can pop targets with my skills at about 35k.
