Edited by: Jack Cunningham on 01/04/2007 21:48:41 ok, in all honesty i was bored,
I saw a few people buying the gtcs the old way so i thought hmm ccp dont support this but ya kno ill sell a few, cos i did genuinely have some in my mailbox.
so we start of and he says send the mails, so i sent the mails and though hmm ok then, he sent the isk and i was about to send the code when my comp froze, so instantly i restart so i dont get banned. Log back in n i cant convo him, [Linkage]
So now im thinking hmm wtf, so i look in address notice he/she is not there so i readd them.
instantly i get a convo up and i applogise for the inconvinence and send the money back.
So heres where i got smart, he/she wanted to try again so i said ok then,
So here we go again with the mails.
Below is what mine contained:
Quote: Subject: 1x tc 135million Body: selling 1x tc for 135 million
Then for his reply:
Quote: subject:selling 1x tc for 135million body: buying 1x 30 gtc for 135million
2 seconds late i recive the isk and i think ok, i just agreed to sell him a TC? so what the hell is a tc?
well in ccp rules a GTC is a game time code, and a TC ( is an abriviation used by some people ) but is not what the item is called!
so instantly i sent this guy his TC (Total Crap)
My reply mail
Quote: Thank you for your purcahse of 1x TC (total Crap) Also included was a free sig , please see below
Now as far as i am aware i never scammed the guy as i was selling him 1x tc, if i was using the abrivation i would have to say selling 1x 30 day time code and list how many days it was ;)

Actually, per the sticky at the top, you will not get your money back. However, he will have all his associated accounts banned, so in the end, you win.

tbh i purchased this char a few months back for a small fee of 175 million cos he was stuck in lv space, so yeah he probs is worht that ammount, but more to the point i would liek to see how ccp deal with this situation, because i havent actually broken rules, i just used a work around for them and the dumbness of another player..

Actually, his reply agreed to buy a GTC, not a "TC" or anything else. So, he clearly thought he was buying a GTC. I am not a mod, but as a former GTC trader I would clearly expect them to wield the banhammer. IDK, but I would start making a will.

o/ Bye Jack, you ****ed up. No one would admissably wave you of responsibility when you fully admitted already that you were watching everyone selling GTCs, and then went and tried selling "TCs". Well guess what. TC ='s Time Code with 95%+ familiarity in EVE, secondly, the TC part of GTC is the locked portion, the G is irrelevant as it's often also said as ETC. You wrote WTS TC, well there you go, unfortunately you stated the two letters that actually mattered. You might've had a sliver of a prayer if you wrote GC instead, but you didn't, and now you can start your EVE experience fresh on a new account :)

Edited by: Lilly Tiger on 01/04/2007 22:33:08 I am the character that bought the GTC/TC in question (and got scammed)
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
I have petitioned this, and although I will not receive the isk back either way from CCP, this will be an important precedent regarding GTC sales.
If the abbrevation switch is enough to have a scam "approved" then i see alot of "Hey, i said one GTC, which stands for Great Total Crap, and I never mentioned any days. You are screwed :P" popping up in our future..

Edit: Regarding Jack Cunningham refunding me.. Well lets wait and see. I do not exactly have great faith in the word of the person who actually scammed me in the first place

You must understand that they can check all the accounts linked to yours by IP-crossovers, though.
No really, hope your account was worth owning 135mil for a few days. Your post is proof that you knew that the other person was buying a game time code. It's proof that you knew you were leading those people to believe they were getting a game time code and did it anyway.

They aren't deliberately misleading people into paying isk by convincing them they're getting a gtc.

Did you note the link to the GM sticky on the FIRST reply on this thread? (Thanks Diana). The date on it was only like 2-3 weeks newer than the post you linked to, and had other information. Which one do YOU think is valid;) The new or old ?

There seems to have been a policy change since then. Read the sticky at the top of this forum.
If the GM's abide by what's written there, the OP's account is history, along with every other account linked to it.

Under contract law you did scam him. Contract law says that it doesn't matter how you describe what you are selling, if there is a "meeting of the minds" there is an enforceable contract for the item both parties knew was being talked about. It doesn't matter if you are selling "widgets" and there's no definition of what a widget is, if both parties know what you are talking about there is an enforceable contract. Further, if there's a dispute and the party who is being sued for being in breach knew what the other party meant, they automatically lose. This is a basic principle of contract law that is followed by the US, UK, and most western countries. So, because you have openly admitted you knew what he meant the evidence clearly shows that the contract was for a GTC and you are in breach. Not sure if any of that matters in CCP's eyes, but it may. ----------------------------------------------------

In your eve mail you stated you said tc (Total crap), but the person that was purchasing the tc (total crap). Replied with GTC in his reply. This makes it clear that person that was the buyer intended to purchase a GTC. So I would say that you are not as slick as you thnk. You forgot that any contract or transaction both parties responses are part of the transaction. I would like to tell you good luck in training a new account. I hope they ban you for having no integrity and following thru with what you implied.

On on hand (not to mention 'General Principle'), I hope that CCP bans your account and deletes your characters.
On the other hand, CCP *does* have a secure method in place to make the transfers secure. The fact that he chose to hand you isk without using it means that CCP will not reimburse his loss. It's his fault for buying outside of CCP's established guidelines and yours for being a parasite (not that that is a bad thing in EvE...). It's all part of the 'experience', I suppose.
Case closed.
Don't mind me... I'm just a pigment of your imagination. |

I can't believe there would be anyone stupid enough to do this and then to brag about it. IMO it never actually happened and the guy who said he was the one being scammed either is in on the fake scam or is an alt.
In any case I think this guy should be banned, whether it be for scamming or for being an utter moron for lying and bragging about being a scammer. But if he actually did scam the guy then it will be fun to see if CCP looks through his in game transactions/trades/etc as well as IP addresses to determine his main character and ban that one too.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I like you too.. :)
Its not fake and its not a scam. I'm still waiting for CCPs final decision, but Ive recieved back some general info so far. It seems as long as there is an evemail showing a GTC trade was actually taking place, the scammer will be banned. But thats what i got so far, not the ultimate solution. If this is correct, he is banned like hell..

Add him to your address book, he won't log in for a while. There's no way to know for sure, of course.
BTW, I petitioned this weeks ago to ask before I bought codes using the old system (just to make sure), so I know what your petition response said. I agree that he was probably banned.
