If you think local is bad for piracy (and it is), killboards are probably the next worst thing as far as giving away free intel to your enemies and targets.
They let people know who you are, where you're operating, what ships you use, what weapons you commonly use, give some idea of your skillpoints and fittings, give away who you're with, what you can kill, and to some extent how you go about killing your targets.
Now, I realise that 99% of carebears never check anything like this, heck, most of them don't even check local or know how to use the scanner (only the one's I'm shooting at appearantly ). But the amount of intel that you give away by posting to a public killboard can be quite a bit.
I'm all for killboards, but if you're smart, you'll keep them private. Intel is everything in a fight.
Because I said so...

I only use killboards if forced by the corp. I use them frequently to get info on my victims though, google ftw!
As if I need a killboard to boost my e-peen anyway :P Signature removed - please email us with a link to find out why - Serathu ([email protected]) |

As you can tell, I clearly define all of my self worth by whether or not you know who I am. Seeing as how I'm a complete and abject failure at life due to you knowing who I am, I think I'll go slash my wrists.

I wish. Yet I'm stuck in my rifter, roaming belts looking for preys who often happen to be BCs, while waiting for my skills to go up.
Edit: Failtacular typo.

If you use private kb`s for your corp/alliance, you cna always make sure that losses are visible, but the items lost are visible only to members. Its like you can still see ships, but modules and fittins are hidden. ---

And locations, and gang sizes and ship types you fly, your combat behaviour yada yada yada yada.

Not to mention, anyone killmail crazy will pod everything in sight to get the mail. Then his sec status gets flaky, then he whines on the forums about it. Bad all around.

Which is why I love to look at killboards...a true pirate doesn't use em (word gets around without "publishing"), and wannabe's always do. I don't refer to the kb's that corps keep on private websites, I'm talking about the public ones.
My best anti-pirate intel comes from them...
Keep up the good work, you know who you are.

Well, you cant only benefit from something. Moreover, kb`s would be checked only if someone hunting you on purpose, usually when hes already locked and scrambled he wont start looking for you on kb`s. ---

OMG my enemies will know i fly a ruppy! With 180mm ac's and an armor tank *gasp*!
Seriously if someone is that concerned about me to be stalking my killboard for fittings and shiptypes they really should be concentrating more on their own gameplay.
I do agree that a kb hurts my piracy though. I may be a forum ***** but im even more of a kb ***** and i often will not ransom just for the killmail especially if it's a really sexy ship. Probably costs me money, but im not a big ransom fan anyways tbh.

Edited by: Swatcat on 02/04/2007 22:48:50 I have to agree with the original poster, the amount of information that is available off a killboard is staggering
I have known people in corps who have spent ages trawling a hostile KB gathering information and more then likely they will come up a fit that will counter there target....
An example if last 10 fits have had T1 fit's - implies either poor or unable to fit, check age and race and there is a good chance your educated guess stands you in good stead.
I disagree with 'private' KB's though as I do like to trawl through them myself and see whats going on, who's killed who and what was lost - e.g. what was on the kill mail of Ginger's latest carrier loss
