Well after weeks of combat we still hear the Coalition this, the Coalition that... but in the other side there's only "BoB and pets lol" or naming individual alliances. That cannot be allowed, we demand a name!
Personally I think our side should be named the Army of Darkness, what do you guys think.

"The Empire" sounds great, and IMO suits BoB+LV side far better than genderless "Allies". But, "Allies" has been already chosen.

I usually just use "us" or "we", but that might be akward for some participants.
I like Axis for no particular reason, but that really doesn't fit historically. Allies, or The Alliance, is fitting and draws some good historic parallels (exactly which ones are left to the reader's discretion and biases), but collisions abound with game-mechanical alliances.

Well, back in the day (4 months ago ), it was LV's coalition that was known as The Coalition, so really, the title doesnt belong to RA/D2 'n' co. I do recall, however, certain members of their "coalition" referring to it as a Federation, entirely appropriate when you consider the aliances pulling the strings. So for me, those opposing RA and their band of plex-humpers will always be The Coalition

Well.. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
My guess is that the coalition is on its last legs.
They lost a titan early on in the war, 50 capitals recently in a single battle. The third front in the east never materialised. Goons seem to be more interested in settin up "Free trade zones" than actually piling the pressure on BoB. The whole setup reeks of incompetence.
3 months into the war and neither BoB nor its immediate 'allies' FIX and Xelas have lost any sovereignty in their home regions.
Very disappointing...all the coalition seems to know how to do is to blob up to high heaven and lose a lot of ships for little gain.
Its my guess that the coalition will start to go its separate ways quite soon.
It just aint gonna happen.

Alliance is OK, I guess, although I don't mind 'Bob & Pets'. Any time your enemy is focused on name-calling on the forums instead of trying to kick you out of your region, you know you're doing OK.
And yeah, "Army of Darkness" would, to quote Eric Cartman, 'kick ass'.

If I recall the name started with "fa" and ended with "ots".
There was probably a "g" or two in there too.

We had one for the Coalition, it had to to with United Territories and something about the North, but heh, it was moded.

I had a stunning realization that EVE history mimics that of... (drum roll) Lord... of the Rings...
Players:
Mordor: Bob
Cosairs and Mercs (on Mordor side): BoB pets
Isenguard: Lotka Volterra
Rohan: Could be northern coalition or southern... depending on how the war goes
Gondor: could be southern or nothern w/e
Dwarves: Greedy NPCers in empire trying to get gold from the dragon (aka LAG)
Elves: hmm I haven't really thought about them... cause they have to be someobdy who leaves the game permanently... so... w/e just kill off the elves
Hobbits: N00b corp ... people
as the story goes:
Isenguard attacks Rohan... similar to Lotka Volterra attacking southern coalition. They get destroyed similar to what Isenguard happened. then... mordor and gondor go to war.. blah blah blah ... skip to punch line... mordor gets owned by hobbits. Thats right - so when BoB is distracted by Gondor... (AKA nothern coalition) the hobbits (noobs) will launch a sneak attack into Mount Doom (AKA Delve) then... peace and prosperity will return to middle earth... I mean EVE...
I was gonna do a comparison between EVE and WWII but w/e.

I think that its unwise to try and dehumanise the opposite side. The Alliance vs The Coalition allows both sides to remain with neutral titles, and almost everyone will understand what you mean. Trying to give one side or the other side a more positive sounding title is just a PR spin. Keep it simple and clean, no need to be so hateful to each other.

Here a couple of deffinitions to help everyone decide:
co+a+li+tion
An alliance, especially a temporary one, of people, factions, parties, or nations.
I would say this fits the current coalition of D2 and friends as they are, to my understanding, enemies puting aside their differences teporarily in an attempt to kill BoB.
al+li+ance
A formal agreement or treaty between two or more nations to cooperate for specific purposes.
So I see the Alliance or Allies being a fitting term for us.

Just want to say that this is not a good vs. evil war or a war for a better eve.
North and RA were always friends, North dislikes BoB, Goonfleet dislikes BoB, RA invited Goonfleet+TCF+IMP(CA) against LV, so LV dislikes RAGoon for that and sides with BoB, while RA helps their new and old friends in their 'anger' against BoB.
And the list goes on. This is a war with powerblocks that have been building over time and about old animosities. It's not an outcry of the community.
For the same reason I see me on BoB's side and also my mates. I was always an enemy of RA, Goonfleet, D2, IAC ..., but BoB was only nbsi-neutral. So I'm against the coalition of my enemies of course and the enemy of my enemy is my friend = BoB/MC...
That's how it is for many, who are involved. I don't want a better eve, I want a political eve that suits me and old enemies getting some beating.

In general the BOB + allies grouping has stayed generally as the "allies" i would say.
the guys up in fountain, AXE, Coreli, xelas, Fatal, get labelled as the fountain crew a bit which sorta fits.
YouWhat is new and somebody would just make jokes like they are what? or some such. so they will always be YW.
FIX is just FIX, becuase well... they are FIX.
the allies to the south in PS, esotaria, feyth never really got a full name grouping yet.
Fallen souls, RISE, CORM, maybe like the southern gang? dunno doesn't fit well.
the southern coalition and the northern coalition are moderatly representative, but the allies are a little more unique.

I was actually thinking about this today Leaving aside the fact that BOBs ego would never allow any other name to be put on the battles that they have other people fight so thay dont have to and that they can take all the credit for [/smack] the number of really good fighting corps that are coming out of the woodwork needs to be represented.
Well theres an easy solution, Freelancer had 2 sides, The Coalition and the Alliance. So simply call yourselves the Alliance. Hell maybe you can get it past Mollie using capitals, i.e. call it "The Alliance" with capital T capital A. He will like that.

Im speaking for myself here, and not my corp/alliance/BoB. If BoB didnt think us capabale and as an ally why would they have left us (and some other "bobbits") to defend fountian against d2 and crew? We have done a pretty good job so far of maximizing d2 losses without much intervention from BoB, imo. All the time/isk/logisitics people spend on control thier space we can use in fighting because we dont have to worry about sov or anything of the like. I think "partners" is a better word then ally because it more fits the relationship, the provide the space, we provide the security. I dont think bob sees us or axe or xelas as anything less then partners (as in some sort of group of sub-par players) because if they did why would they trust us with a security role?
Does the Amry of a nation think the police are less important then the Navy of said nation? :I dont think so as the police serves a just as equal role as the navy/army do.

It seems to me that what happens is - D2 attack for a while, but every time something comes to a crunch, the delvians log on their combat chars and go to make sure the job is done properly - if this isn't a sign of a lack of confidence in the "resident" corps, I'm not sure what is.
But, I'm speculating. I've probably only ever spent a few hours in Fountain tops.
Maybe a D2 person could comment, regarding who they actually fight when capital ships are involved, or sovereignty is an issue.
How far do your partners supply you with cheap T2 from their production lines, or do you buy what you can't produce from empire? Maybe that's a yardstick for how far the relationship goes too?
