So I have thought of trying eve for years. I actually did a free trial four or 5 years ago but since alphas became available I planned to give a serious look with plans of subscribing when I top out as an alpha. So the other night I create this account and started the new player stuff. Well as often happens real life got in the way and I left my character training away for a few days. Today I get the chance to play and so I'm going along just fine and I get to a point where I have to inject a mini skill injector. Sounds great free skill points. Except I have to many skills for the mini injector and I can't get past that point in the New player stuff and move on with my character. I asked in rookie help and GmDabtrok says just submit a ticket and wait lol. Not a great experience. Now I know that most people here are paying players and could careless about alphas but I'd be willing to bet that a lot of alphas would be subbing once they top out on SPs. More paying players equals more money for CCP which means more money for development of new and better stuff for Eve. |

Well, that does sound like a bug, those exist in pretty much every piece of software ever. Thing with bugs is, you'd have to let them know they exist and give them some time to fix it or to say it in GM Dabtroks words, submit a ticket and wait. If you want to be a good citizen, you can submit a proper bug report on top of that and thereby help making the game better.
And while you wait for a response, just move on with your Eve life. Hit F12, click "show carreer agents", set a course and get started playing Eve. :)
Edit: Oh, and many of us care more about Alphas and new players than you apparently think. Who doesn't like new players in the game? |

I did create a new alpha account, and while I didn't have your particular issue, I found the NPE tutorial full of similar bugs. It's like it was created by someone that not only can't project ahead and anticipate user input, but any testing on it must' have been done in a purely linear way, like connecting the dots or some simple frame by frame animation. And you better not touch anything while completing the steps, as in many cases simply opening your inventory throws the whole thing off. Lame.
For a game as complex as Eve, I really expected this tutorial to be of better quality, especially if it's meant as the gateway to new paying customers. In some cases, even as a veteran I had to guess or appeal to the help channel to find items required to complete missions, or steps missing in Aura's 'step by step' instructions.
It's a shame because it's an improvement to the previous version, but just very poor execution. |

This! I also finished tutorial with this char just to see what's in it and I couldn't believe how many times it got stuck because I clicked something else than what was expected. Like when tutorial expected warp to something by pressing warp button but right click would confuse it.

Like the GM said, submit a ticket and wait. Patience in EVE is a must so take that as a test.

I started yesterday and really wanted to like the game. But the tedious gameplay and bugs in the tutorial are too much. I'm ready to uninstall already. If you get lost in space it seems almost impossible to get to back where you should be. And, takes way too long; frustrating... |

Keep flying! The first few weeks of eve were always the worst part bugs or not. But after a couple weeks you start to get the hang of things and its a lot of fun. Good Luck . Oh and by the way you look younger than you did on TV. (I love old reruns) |

I think the worst part (besides being very buggy) about the "new" new player experience is...
It generates unrealistic expectations. When there isn't a showstopping bug, it is an on-rails, story based narrative that makes you seem like the special magical hero. Then at the end, it basically just dumps you back in the station with a noob ship and says "Go mine at 100k isk per hour". Then returns to what EVE really is.
Don't get me wrong, I've been a subscriber (and generally have anywhere from 2-6 accounts active) since 2007. But the new NPE is basically the complete opposite of how EVE actually plays in the wild. Most of my friends that I convinced to try liked it, but then at the end were like "is this even the same game?". Not sure how a storybased tutorial will hook people long term when the rest of the game is not like that at all. |

What I also think is really bad that it keeps telling you to enable the autopilot, when you really shouldn't. That's why newbies think it takes 5 minutes to get from one system to another, just because the tutorial told them to let the autopilot slowboat 12 kilometers on every gate.
It is flashy and nice and all, and I really enjoyed playing it with all the chatter and explosions going on, but it still is not a good tutorial. |

Yeah, I forgot about that. I literally cringed a few times like "So many newbros are gonna get suicide ganked autopiloting..." |

lots of people are willing to help. rookie help channel, random people in space, others in your npc corp channel.
the forums!
which you guys managed to find and use, and the right section also without a tutorial holding your hands.
so you see, when you are motivated you will find a way.
now just imagine you put the same effort into the game play.
nothing could hold you back!
don't give up so easy, get back on the saddle and try again.

I too started this game a few days ago. The intro story you get is strange to say the least and not in line with what I had heard and read about EVE online. I mean, playing through that I feel like Flash Gordon, Saviour of the Universe! Saving the day in a beginner ship that would explode if you throw ammunition at it, let alone if you would actually shoot it.
Luckily there where plenty of helpful people around in the chat-channels. Someone even opened a private chat with me for 3 hours+(!) just to guide me through. Awesome!
I really think I will play this game for real for some time. Future will tell how long. But that beginning story is ludicrously unbelievable. And indeed breaks if you blink at it. |

Someone wrote about expectations, I agree.
You do the new tutorial and it's like a nice quest to follow, and you think all game is like that on Pve side.
It's not.
It's a grind of missions with only a written text, to be done thousand of times.
Basically it's an endless farming to gain isks for other kind of activities. |

aren't alpha limited on their max skill points? so it makes no sense to limit those mini injectors. |
