Yes, it has been suggested before, but by some reason, all previous threads on the matter has been killed by the infamous thread-killer called "time".
Please update the EvE-mail!
First of all, give us an outbox! It is very annyoing not to be able to see who I am sending mails to, and what I wrote earlier! The absence of an outbox clearly doesn't match the needs of the massive financial and trade-oriented community within EvE. If the devs care about this distinct aspect about EvE, give us better tools to enhance and upgrade it - I mean, least of all is an outbox, right?
To prevent the outbox (and the inbox, for that matter), from doubling traffic on bandwith the devs should simply give us tools to edit and create folders in EvE-mail, and adding one called "Non-deletable";
- Whenever you recieved a mail / sent a mail, it would go to you inbox or outbox, respectively.
- The devs (or each individual player, perhaps) would then set a period of time that any mail could stay in inbox or outbox. E.g., if the time was 5 days, then a mail could only stay for 5 days in inbox/outbox folder before being deleted automatically.
- If the player wanted to keep some mails, he would then simply move them to Non-deletable or one of his other folders.
- The timer on incoming mails would, of course, only start when the player reads the mail.
It has also been suggested that it should be easier to connect EvE-mail with your regular mail. I am by no means a computer programmer, but i could imagine that it would require a different technology used to make the EvE-mail. Besides that, it sounds like an excellent idea to me. This would also be a very beneficial tool for those who manage great corporations, or make large-scale financial moves. And to everyone else, who wants to an eye on their game while away from home.
Another thing the devs could do to improve EvE-mail is to add maillinglists - not just inside a corporation. This would make mass-mail a lot easier. Newsletters from corporations (press releases, events, etc.), alliances (same) or well-known EvE-characters could also be an interesting concept, and every EvE-player could quickly sort what kind of player-related news he or she would like to be informed about. Also, this could enhance the global dynamics within EvE, making the range from the Top-of-the-top corporations to rookie pilot shorter, and thus expanding the universe for players in general, as well as spreading advertisement for the corporation issuing the mail.
This is just some ideas, i hope some of them might work or at least be good. ___________________

Edited by: Sortiario on 05/04/2007 10:20:02 Last bump. People don't seem to be interested in EvE-mail improvements. ___________________

Intrested I am. For the first bit I don't think anyone could complain about that. Probally don't let evemails out of game becuase I think that would create extra load on the servers. If not I can't see any reason not to. Just have a eve mail server and you sign in with your login message. Just wondering how to choose between characters on the one account *scuttles off*

You did come.
The bandwith is, of course, always a "kill-a-new-idea" factor, but i think that it could be handled without excessive use of bandwith. ___________________

The thing that is most needed is the outbox. I would like to have more then one folder to put incoming mails in (if we do not speak about corp and alliance mail). _____________________________________________________________________

Sounds good that people are still interested. Still open for comments then, i hope some of the devs will take a look. So far, I haven't seen any announcements where they state they will improve EvE-mail. ___________________
