I would like to play this game. It looks like fun but I can't get past the tutorial. I am geting disconnected every 5 minutes. Can run other online games just fine except eve. And I have no firewall up and have an adware/spyware program running to clean my system. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is very frustrating.

Edited by: Vladimir Ilych on 04/04/2007 18:06:39 This used to happen to me but it was my ISP. If you can play other online games okay I would suggest first looking at your windows event logs and see if anything is shouting for attention. Next I would download and reinstall the client again. I take it you are running Windows XP Home or Pro (x86) with latest patches and service packs?

Try adding the general help chat channel to your channel list. It worked for me, seems to keep a stady flow of data between eve and the PC.

Indeed, it's quite annoying that you lose connection if you don't have something constantly happening on screen (text flow, etc). What's even MORE annoying is that it doesn't show that you've been kicked until you try to do something. So you watch tv checking in once in awhile to see if anyone needs anything, hour(s) go by and no channels have new messages, not one. Click on your items hangar and... "You've lost connection." Turns out even though the game showed you as being in game, you've actually been out of the game for well over 3-5 hours <-- multiply that occurrence by all the dang time and you finally discover you need to leave a spam channel (Help) open to prevent this.

Thanks for the advice. I will join the help channel and see if that helps. Funny thing is last time I was kicked I was fighting as part of my tutorial. Hopefully if I can finish the tutorial things will get better. Thanks again.

If you have a reuter this can be the solution
Originally by: Avid Amari Edited by: Avid Amari on 03/04/2007 17:51:31 OK I found a SOLLUTION.
Took me countless hours and some headaches and yelling at CCP who were not to blame, nether is my ISP. The problem seems bizare at first glance, but its totally verified and tested (repeatable beyond any doubt).
My setup: I hope all who have this issue can identify yourself with this allso. My gaming PC is far from remarkable. It consists of AMD XP 2k CPU, nVidia geforce 6800GT, 1.5 Gb RAM, 450 Gb RAID disks, nForce 2 chipset motherboard, Audigy 2 sound card and im running Windows VISTA. I have 2 PCs connected to my Netgear router which is then connected to my Motorola Cable modem 2000/256. Mediocre gaming machine which served me for 2 years and I hope to squeese some 6 more months out of it.
CAUSE: OK cause of my disconnecting issue is laughable because If everything in this world would be ideal, the problem wouldnt exist in the first place. Its fact P2P programs such as Emule, Torrent programs and such have a high demmand on router resources by making too many simultaneous connections at any given time, causing router to overload. Todays commercial (all sub 100$) routers werent meant for such a beating. What do I mean by this? Well router has onboard CPU to process the streaming data flow and RAM to memorize incomming and outgoing connections to a route table. This route table is quite limmiting when it comes to P2P programs such as uTorrent for example. How soo? Well Torrent programs make way too much connections, which fills up the route table quite fast and CLOGS it up, leaving very little to none resources available for other processes (let it be browsing, gaming or internet radio/video). Well such is the case that Games, and other streaming connections such as Internet radio/video require a very stable uninterrupted data flow as possible. Since uTorrent pounds at the router constantly, such stable data flow is impossible with these cheap routers where table corruption occurs because of insufficient ressources. Router just cant handle it because it lacks RAM to store all those requests of outgoing and incomming traffic.
SOLLUTION: Sollution is quite simple and straightforward. All you have to do is disable any such program from running (utorrent, emule, and other P2P sw). Then you have to physically unplug your router and modem from power for 3 minutes appr. (go make a coffe or something). First plug in the router and let it sit for 2 min, then you power on your modem and wait a bit for them two to sync up. Check if internet is working by opening google page or simmilar.
As stupid as this sounds my friends, its the holy trouth. It kinda suxx todays router manufacturers are skimping on the routers circuit innards, but lets be honest, they didnt have P2P programs in mind when they made those things. If you want a permanent sollution read on the reccomendation.
RECCOMENDATION: For all of you P2P lovers out there, who cant live without having it turned on for 24/7, read on. Well there are gamer routers and network cards out there. Why is this of any signifficance? Because these are specially build with best possible electronics and aditional onboard ram to cope with such issues and lag too. 2nd option you have which works best of all is you make your own router rig. Being a linux computer PC setup solely to act as a router. Have that baby configured as you please. Its prooven beyond any doubt that this setup works against lag and can cope with all and any P2P requests because it has more powerfull CPU (depends what CPU are you willing to use for this project), and enough RAM (depends how much ram are you willing to sacriffice).
OK, if you dont belive me, do your googling, cause Im tired and I simply dont remember the sites anymore. Been through too many. Bottom line is, my disconnecting issue is fixed, and I appologize to any CCP technician I might have caused gray hair over this.
Cheers.

That is interesting. But I am not running any P2P programs. The only thing I run when I play is the game. And my gf's if she is on the same time I am. I can run EQ2 and Vanguard just fine.

When I first installed Vista x64 to play the game, I too got disconnected every 45-50 minutes. Frustrated I looked inside the event logs and saw that DHCP wasn't working properly. My solution was to disable DHCP by assigning myself an address. Maybe this will work for you.

Nothing seems to work. This is giving me a lot of grief. Now I am getting kicked after a few minutes even after I added the help channel to chat. I would try to change my DHCP but I can't find how to change it and what would I change it to? I really wish I could play this game.

Okay, I assigned my own ip address and turned off DHTP and I am still getting kicked every few minutes. This is getting silly now.

I've gone through every one of these solutions. It doesn't matter if I run P2P or not, I get disconnects. My router is plenty good and capable of handling EVE and P2P and streaming audio and ftp requests and hosting a web server. I know this because I did all these things at once for months. Ever since 1.41 or so I started getting massive disconnect problems at random. Sometimes every few minutes, sometimes not for hours.
This is driving me insane.
Setting DMZ didn't help. Forwarding ports didn't help (obvious since DMZ didn't). Installing .Net updates helped for 3 days, no disconnects for that time period, now they are worse than before. Installing new drivers for everything I could find didn't do anything. Reinstalling made things better, I now disconnect instantly instead of having a 2 second pause before the disconnect occurs I have a static IP address already, always have... I hate DHCP.
Come on CCP, this is a VERY common issue. My corp mates have the same problem, at least 2 of them have complained about it a lot. What's up?

I had the same problem when i 1st starting playing eve. Am pretty sure it is ISP related.
Answer is simple, ping the CCP server with the command prompt.
run
ping 87.237.38.200 -t
thats it, problem solved

To clarify, if you type that in a command window (Start Menu->Run->"cmd"), then you will have windows constantly ping the server indefinetly. This maintains the connection and flow of data. I had the exact same problem and this completely fixed it. Thanks for the tip, Draza.

While this may fix it this is a horrible solution. If thousands of people do this it could cause some problems. I have to believe this is a fixable issue by CCP because this issue started recently, I believe after 1.4. I never once got these messages before Revelations, that's for sure. And recently I get the more and more after each patch.

IĈm kinda in the same boat. If I try to run EvE with anything else running on my comp EvE crashes as soon as there is any kind of combat. If my drones attack something while IĈm mining I disconnect, have to reconnect and collect whatever drones survived. This also happens as soon as my guns start to hit anything while ratting. I seem to crash with IE open or Windows media player. I have exactly the same problem being reported here and nothing has resolved it. This only started right after the latest patch back at the beginning of the month.
I'm going to try to keep the dataflow going with the constant ping, but that is (As another reply said) a very poor excuse and can cause even more problems.
I've petitioned this issue and sincerely hope CCP finds something, or my favorite game (Read ONLY) that I play will be lost to me.
PS - This ONLY happens on my desktop, NOT my laptop. Go figure.

So basically the game should just ask for ACKs more often from the server... this would do the same thing as the ping but would be a solution for everyone.

Is there any way to change how often this command pings the server? Currently, it's once every second or so, any way to make it ping every 30 seconds, for example?
Also, thanks for the fix, I freekin love you!

I tried your ping solution and it still didn't work. I tested it by going afk for 10 mins, and when I got back I still got disconnected. I checked the ping logs and there are two slots where the ping request timed out so i'm guessing that's when I got d/c.

I have noticed this problem as well. I'm really not sure what causes it (though you can see my guess further on), but playing the market and other such things seems to make it worse. In my case, it is being triggered by some sort of temporary network delays (at times I pick up 15-60 sec blocks of time when the network is strictly unavailable). I ping www.yahoo.com so I know it's not a CCP problem, but either my ISP *or* my wireless network. For those of you with wireless networks, you probably should check to see if that is the cause. There are a number of annoying wireless devices (at least in the US) that operate on the same frequency. And your treacherous neighbors may be smacking your wireless network with a wireless phone or some other gadget.
Having said that, I don't see why I get disconnects from Eve. It should be more stable than that IMHO. For example, the combat (which obviously is harder) doesn't disconnect more often. I have far more trouble jumping (jumping with lots of disconnects in low or 0.0 sec is non-fun).

1) Please look at dates before you hit reply, this is a 4 month old topic....
2) Wireless networks have many issues, one of those is data being lost and sent to data heaven. There are several ways to prevent this, the best I have found is to be wired to your router if possible.
Granted this defeats the purpose of a wireless network, but come on you really want to play a game like Eve on a wireless network. The speed difference can't even begin to compare, there are to many devices that cause issues with wireless routers and their channel.
If you must keep trying to use a different channel till you get something. Be sure to use the fastest mode possible that your router supports.
You could also try a trick by connecting a wireless router to a wireless router, might help since the routers might have a better receiver on them then wireless devices. Plus the power that would run to them would allow a better one anyways.
Of course you still get data loss...

Pretty happy this topic was brought from the depths of the basement actually. The post about P2P programs and routers helped me big time - seems it was the cause to all my disconnect problems. >< Scary how they coincided with the patches well enough for me to think it was just ccp. Woops. --
