Edited by: Draconyx on 04/04/2007 01:26:07 YUP carriers come to mind in most cases.
BUT
This is what happens. 0.0 corp sets up op. Locks down gates if needed. Carrier picks belt and starts mining (better then just sitting there)and permatanking the rats (basically he just sits there and doesn't kill them) Miners haulers etc show up after aggro established.
Belt gets stripped and there you go :) Basic 0.0 mining op in action.

Using a battleship to tank and mine is much more efficent than using a carrier...
The only time mining with a capital ship is useful is when youre in high sec with a dread that has tons of cargo space (Chribba).

Battlecruiser/command ship is even better as you also can have a mindlink and a laser optimization/ice harvesting leadership mod going. --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

can a carrier have mining drones? If so i presume it can mine better then a BS. But i don't know how many turrent slots they have to mount lasers and how many mining upgrades can be mounted.
BTW how many drones can a carrier, carry?

A carrier can not even outmine a Retriever, I think. And you want it to outmine a mining Apoc/Dominix?

my first look at the game was a mate of mine who was mining in a maelstrom, but i thought that since the carrier is bigger it would have better cpu?
the maelstom could only mount 8 laser and 1 upgrade.
How many turrent slots does a carrier have? and how maybe mining drones can it use?

Edited by: Draconyx on 04/04/2007 03:28:41 Can you mine in a Captital ship yes. I think you could even fit out a Titan miner. Would you ever want to do it... NO !!!
As stated above in most cases you use a BS to permatank a belt for miners in 0.0
I have seen a carrier do it. But then again carriers haul and rat as well so what can I say.
Either way permatanking is even dryer then mining unless you have the ship setup to mine as well. ie - mining battleship or a carrier that just uses its drone to pass time (and yes the rate is terrible)
SO the bottom line to this whole thing is Yes you can. But I wouldn't if I had anything better to do or you might just feel like hanging out and helping your corp mates.

He needs better skills. Mine has 8 x Miner IIs and 2 upgrades. Had to fit a couple of faction CPU upgrades to make the mining upgrades fit at 30M a pop though
Oh, and a T2 cargo expander to prevent RSI is good too...

Im not 100% sure what you just said... so what im saying may have nothing to do with what you said at all lol.
Im pretty sure my permatanking megathron can outmine anything other than a T2 covetor/hulk. BSes arent slow miners at all. The last time i tried it, i could run a full tank and 6 miner IIs constantly. That was a few months ago, with my new skills since then, i could probably do even more.
Its funny, i can outmine retrievers and T1 covetors in my mega with less than 75k total SP in mining related skills XD.

Carriers don't have masses of cargo space - but can run drones OK Dreads can have laods of cargo space but are limeted in turret mounts.
I have not yet seen cribba's Veldnaught in amarr - I may have to fly though there and check it. -- BIG Lottery, BIG Deal | RaTTuS @ Skills Showroom

At one point there were buildable in highsec and once jumped out could not return. This is no longer the case, they cant now be built in highsec factorys. But there will still be limited number of capital ships in highsec as long as they have never jumped out. --------------------------------- Monkey Nut CEO - PioneerX Productions A dedicated young/new player training and assistance corporation.

First off the Rokh is the worst mining ship. With 8 modulated deep core miner II and crystals you are moving ore from your hold ever 10 sec.
Here is the rank I go by:
1 Hulk 2 Carrier 3 Dominix
I like the Hulk cause you dont have to do much and its just rips thru roids.
I like a carrier to mine cause you can solo mine. Having 13 mining drones II and the ability for your haulers to pull the ore out of your copr hanger is uber.
Dominix can tank mine and have drones. What else you need.

Mining in a Carrier is definately worthwhile. Consider this:
1> Yeah, you can tank rats, but honestly its better to have a cheap BS do it. 2> 13 Harvesters at a base 30 m3 each is not bad at all. Expecially on low-end ores as it gets close to the full 30 m3. 3> I run a Laser Opmization gang module. So every 8 mining lasers others are running generates another laser-full per cycle. 4> Yes, you can put into your corp hangars and have it picked up. Personally, I just use a Tractor and haul the can around behind me. (Hence 13 drones instead of 14) 5> If I can ever find the gang module for Drones, I can increase their yield by 12-27%. 6> With full implants and skills, a Carrier with a module can increase yield by up to 27% for everyone. 7> Should a random gank squad show up, the Carrier can instantly switch from mining to offense. 8> 3-4 Hulks in a belt easily cost as much as a Carrier (or at least did before Invention started to even things out), so no whining about Carrier ship cost is valid. 9> Mothership could have 25 Harvesters, about the equalivalent of 2 Covetors yield. 10> I seriously doubt an Ore Thief would try to steal from a Carrier.
