1x small rep, 1x EANM, 1x MAPC, 1x 400mm Rolled tungsten Plate (if you want to spend some isk, drop the EANM for a DC II).
As a new player all this is very helpful but, what the heck is a EANM, MAPC and DC II? I am pretty sure a AC is a auto-cannon, but the other ones I have no clue.
Electro Adapative Nano Membrane (not sure bout teh Electro tbh, but just look for Membrane in market), it adds all round resis to your tank
MAPC = Micro Auxilliary Power Core adds 10 power to your ship, which is useful on a frig
DC II = Damage Control 2, adds more resis to Armor shield AND hull, very useful
and yes AC = autocanon, shoots ****
Might not have got those exactly right, so used to teh short version myself but should help ya find'em

Free bump to the top, sorry if i'm necroing :)
Great guide! Rifter has got to be my favorite ship to mess around in, and i've taken on ships waaay too large in it a few times.
Fun setup i was playing with, if only to make people scratch their heads as to why you won't die:
Highs: 3x 150mm T2 autos, 1 T2 rocket launcher
Meds: Named AB, 7.5k scram, small cap booster (yes, stolen from a punisher fit i liked..)
Low: 2x small reps, 200mm rolled tungsten
Of course it depends on your target not having a web, i tackled a ferox solo in it for a good 10 mins but ran outta cap boosters and couldn't get any backup. You could go for a 20k scram as the cpu usage is less than half with weapon upgrades 5... just something i found fun as my corp mates started relaying my rifter setups to each other after i kept popping them 1vs1 ____________________ Hi. Have some things to comment on the Griffin. Not usually a good solo-PvP boat, but it can actually work very well when you have skills to use it.
Expensive setup (which extra edge)
Highs: 1 x Modal Light Neutron Particle Accelerator I (with AM ammo) 2 x 'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I (with Thorn Rockets [Kin])
Meds: 2 x Best Named Racial ECMs usually go for Minmatar and Amarr, since they are the weakest 1 x X5 Prototype I Engine Enervator (-86.5% speed ftw) 1 x Warp Scrambler II (could use a named one since I won't be needing the extra range really)
Low: 1 x 'Hypnos' Signal Distortion Amplifier I
Drones: 1 x Hornet I (or II when you got skills)
Cheap setup
Highs: 1 x Light Neutron Blaster (with AM ammo) 2 x Rocker Launcher I (Thorn Rockets)
Meds: 2 x Racial ECM 1 x Warp Scrambler I 1 x Stasis Webifier I
Lows: 1 x Signal Distortion Amplifier I
Drones: 1 x Hornet I
Tactics I'm thinking to close the target fast, or simply bait it by being a lone ECM frig (easy target eh?). Jam 'em to hell, web, scram and orbit at 1000-1300m and just blast all I can while keeping the racial jammer up. If it misses one cycle, I'll pop on the second ECM too for one cycle (it has about 15-22% chance to succeed, even though it's for the wrong race). If both fail, gtfo as fast as possible. Even with non-named stuff the Cap runs stable at 35-40% with everything running (except both ECMs. Can only run one endlessly).
Costs The first setup is rather expensive, and can hit around 7-10 mil depending on prices. It also takes a hell of a time to gather all that named stuff. The second setup ends up around 300 000 isk at tops and is rather fast to gather up. It's a lot more luck-based than most PvP setups where the tank is far more "dependable" and all you really have to worry about is that your tank can soak the enemy's DPS. In my case, it's all or nothing. Either he won't hit me at all, or I'm toast.
Skills needed Electronics III (maybe even IV) Energy Management III Energy Systems operation III Electronic Warfare III Semi-good gunnery skills Semi-good missile skills, preferrably a few points into rockets. Propulsion Jamming II (prefer higher for saving on cap)
Now, if you wanna go hardcore, add Signal Dispersion IV (requires Electronics V). Adds another 20% to your ECM strength.
Conclusion The Griffin sure is no solo-pwnmobile, but cleverly used it can take out almost any other frigate thanks to some luck with the jammers. Jammer is a good tank since if you succeed, you take no damage at all. The drawback is that if it DOES miss, you have no tank to counter the coming 20 seconds of punishment. Hence I always take the chance to pop on the other ECM (even though it's the wrong race) just in case it DOES hit. I disable it immideately so it only runs one cycle, or my cap is going byeybe. Oh and also, do not try to take on Caldari/Gallente cruisers with a Griffin. Their sensor are too strong. You might be able to jam them a few cycles, but nowhere near enough to survive the time it will take you to down their tank (if ever). The damage output on the Griffin is apalling. Also never forget the drone!
Have fun!

Nice guide. I just wanted to add something though. You say that the rifter is the best piracy frig and I agree, but you then go onto to give tactics for it that dont take advantage of the rifters strengths and will likely get a lot of new rifter pilots killed. Orbiting at 1 to 2 km is only a valid tactic against ships with long range weaponry or big guns in order to get under their tracking. If you try this against close range frigs of other races you'll likely get fragged though.
The rifters strengths when it comes to close range small weapon combat is its high speed and autocannon falloff which allow it to dictate range and negate much of the incoming damage by staying in this range. For example many of the gallente and caldari fittings have combinations of rockets and blasters to do their damage. In the 1km to 2km range these weapons easily out dps what the rifter can through out, plus many of these frigs also have better tanks. However by orbiting out at 4.5km you are outside of rocket range thus completely negating their damage whilst at the same time reducing electron blasters to about 2% damage and neutron blasters to about 32% damage. Thus you've completely gimped or infact totaly negated their damage, meanwhile however your autocannons are still hitting fairly strong at 55% damage and you've got 3 of them.

Good point there. Although I'm pretty sure my rockets can reach up 6 km in my Griffin. But don't quote me on that. Was a while since I looked. (I stay at around 1km range orbiting so I never care about rocket range).

Ah yes, I wasn't taking skills into account. There are similar skills to increase optimal and falloff on turrets though so if you train these up you should always be able to find a spot where you can negate the rocket damage whilst keeping your own damage high.

Unfortunatly, this tactic only works vs frigates, as larger guns easily outrange you nonetheless. As it is, orbiting closer in and keeping your angular velocity high will keep you alive better than trying futiley to outrange the guns. As this guide largely deals with frig vs cruiser tactics, I feel right in advising as I did. ---- Bloodmoney is recruiting

I support this post or service.
And for the rocket discussion, with 4's in relevent range skills unbonused rockets hit to 9km. Unless you are fitting falloff rigs on your rifter you will not be able to dictate dammage through range, except by closing to near your optimal.
It's not always easy closing 6km while webbed just to even out the dps numbers.
Small Pulse lasers however, tag with scorch just fine at 10km. -- All these graphs show is how bad the apocalypse is with different kinds of weapons. -Dr Jigglez |

Yes this was my point. I stated in my post that what you described are valid tactics but only against long range or big weaponry. It's just that the way the guide came across made it sound like this is the only tactic to use which against small weapons it isn't. I inteded my advice to be in addition to yours, not replace it.

Well if we're taking skill into account here then tech II 150mm auto cannons can still hit at 50% dps out from 9km when loaded with barrage. The opponent could switch to long range rockets to still get you but it might not even be necessary to negate rocket damage however if rockets are just in addition to their blasters which you nullify closer in. As long as you out dps them by the right amount at your chosen range then you'll win. You're right though, lasers with scorch will put an end to your range games. In this case however you can get close in and switch to hail ammo which will out dps lasers even with conflagration. Either way taking advantage of speed and falloff of the rifter is the obvious tactic to use since it allows you to dicate range and thus what damage the opponent and yourself can do to find the best range to always out dps them.

What about Smart bombs? Couldn't cruiser smart bombs pose a real problem to uber close range frigates these days?
Also, in your guys' experience, how good are the Gallante interceptors for pvp'ing/pirating?

No one fits smartboms, it gimps their dps and fitting, doesn't matter if it is a viable counter to something ppl just ain't fitting it.
Web, neutralizer is all you need to pop any frig with a cruiser anyway.
I think even most AFs have a hard time against a decently setup cruiser. Sig removed, lacks Eve-related content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Cortes |

Though NULH is now defunct (RIP) I have decided that training young pirates is my calling in eve. As such, I've founded a corp (Crimson Flag) with the express purpose of raising yarlings up to full pirate status. Anyone who wants to pirate, of any character age, is welcome to join.
I am also hiring instructors, so if you have experience as a pirate and want to help out give me a shout.

I've had the most fun with my Vaga and Huginn... but my alts the one training minnie BS 5... so who knows
I've seen a shield-buffer tanked hurricane work, and some other interesting setups. Still really really like my vaga. All I hear are good things about the sleipnir though... if you want to give that a go ------------

Yah i love my Huginn too and you neve go wrong with the Vaga :) and i like the shield gank cane for pvp, but im a bit unsure on go for more tank/dps = BS for gate camps etc. or just go for speed + flexibility of the Huginn/Vaga ? Can't fly the sleipnir just yet, so ill have to wait a little for that one :) otherwise id used that one.

If you can already fly Gallente frigs, go with the Incursus. It is cheap and packs a mean punch between the three blasters and one light drone. Tristan on the other hand you need to have missile skills, is more expensive, isn't as fast and I always seem to have a lot more trouble figuring out how to fit it. ----- http://evenewb.blogspot.com/ |

good guide for people.
you should add in the ransom part. after you mention to cease fire before opening a convo... that you stop attacking for 2 reasons. one being that if you continue to attack you might blow them up on accident and that if you are asking for a ransom and still attacking them, and they are in a ship that can't take a lot of damage like a mining barge or frig for example. they will most likely tell you to go F*** yourself. Basically if you are still attacking most people will think you are just going to take the isk and kill them anyway.
oh and always tell them it is a one time deal. that way if you catch them again you can ransom them or kill them and they can't ***** on the forums etc etc. well they can but you can just say "hey it isn't my fault he/she/it was stupid enough to warp back to the gate/belt/planet/moon/safespot after i told them it was a one time deal"

About bleeders: That taken directly from the ORIGNAL punisher bleeder setup thread. So, um, you're wrong.
I grew up on and love the punisher's bleeder setup, credit due to Malka Badi'a - and for the first 2+ months of my pirate career it's all I flew. Sadly, it's my belief that CCP's premature abortion that is the nos-nerf killed Nos's, all the bloodraider ships, and with them the bleeder setup, atleast the true genious anyway. It used to be that a punisher could slowly suck the cap of a battlecruiser down to nothing after 5 minutes or so, feeding it's own cap mainly on the cap power relays and simply benefiting from the nos. Now a bleeder must "have less cap than the target" to get anything out of the nos, which for me ruins the whole idea of it, especially in the cap-killing, target "bleeding-to-death" department. I'd go on but I'd just be going into how CCP stomped on my dreams of the Bhaalgorn and it not sucking...well, yeah, there's your pun
