Good evening Rookie Q&A, this isn't a question but i think it's the correct forum regardless.
I'm wondering if there's any interest in a Newbro LvL4 Mission fleet?
For those of you who are wondering why i'm doing PvE, the couple of new player PvP roams i've tried to put together have had limited interest (think may be to do with going to lowsec with an older player / paranoia).
My plan is to run logistics for a cloud of new players as they smash out some LvL4 missions. My aim is to demonstrate the power of teamwork, as well as just to create content. I'll probably do a ship replacement so don't worry too much about potential losses, we're just out to have fun.
All profits will be split amongst the Newbro cloud.
I plan to start approx 12:00 Noon EvE Time tomorrow 01/12/17 so any new players interested in fleeting up get in touch via EvE-Mail for details.
Gùï This will take place in Hisec Gùï Armor buffer tank preferably Gùï No SP minimum
Any questions don't hesitate to get in touch.

Good luck with this. While I cannot speak to how your run will go, we did this sort of thing over this past weekend with a group of friends on Alphas (and one Omega who could get the missions, cause, rep). 12 of us in total, most were new to EvE, all in frigs, good fun.

Give them 1 MILLION ISK OMG!!!! for participation, and advertise that this is for mad ISK looting and salvaging, and you'll have tons of them.
Gallente University of Caille starter area is Bourynes / Vitennyn, and there are several level 4 Federation Navy agents with security missions right there, or 1 jump away in Fricoure and Mirilene. Caldari Navy agents are somewhat far, I think, from their starter systems, but there are several level 4 agents for Corporate Police Force (CPF) in Waskisen, which is very close to the starter areas and Jita. I'm not sure where the Amarr and Minmatar Navy agents are relative to their starter areas.

My very first character was "born" in Bourynes in 2003. I left the station, the "tutorial" crashed & I spent the next 3 months in that area - mining! Never ever trust a printed manual which comes with a MMO still in beta at release

Guess I missed the boat on this one. I suggest opening a channel in game, put a MOTD on it for when the next fleet will be. I think it's a great idea, good to learn fitting, speed tanking, and manual flight in a situation where they don't have to worry about losing a pod.

If you create a channel, let us know.
Since we are not allowed to announce these things in Rookie Help, it would probably be the best way to reach people in different time zones.
I would totally run fleets together with some new pilots in Amarr Space, but sadly I never know when exactly I can be available. I would rather prefer to be able to just anounce it on short notice and a channel would be the best way to do it.
I would even transport and prefit ships to my base, so I can be sure that fittings are used that actually work for this kind of thing and people can relocate a lot faster, when they just need to grab a shuttle and make the few jumps to get to my location (which is not very far from Amarr).
Maybe if we get a couple of older players together who are interested we should meet up in a channel and maybe have a little discussion on how we can advertise the whole thing and to reach as many people as possible.
Maybe we could also throw a few ISKies together and rent a TS server for the channel, especially as a channel like that would open up other options to organise fleets for rookies that go into other areas than just PvE as well.
The people who run these kind of events will surely earn some trust by the people in the channel over time and that would also help you a lot in regards to organising PvP fleets for rookies as well.
Idea for channel name: "Rookie Help OPs" (Since a lot of us also sit in rookie help) |

Good ideas all round. Event went ok, had 6 or 7 newbros of various levels :)
I will create a channel tonight and update this thread with the details. I also have a TS3 server that could potentially be re-purposed Any older players who are willing to hang out in channel and lead fleets / answer questions get in touch.
Thanks for the input everyone.

Ok channel is called "New Player Fleets" and is free to join for anyone. I went with a sort of incursion-like system where older regulars will be named on a list in the MOTD as trusted FC's.
The guys who have posted already offering support, join the channel and i'll get some more FC's added.

So, we do have quite a few experienced pilots sitting in the channel already.
So this is your chance people.
If you are new to the game and have questions regarding the game, or want to meet some people to fleet up join us in the channel.
-> In case you don-¦t know how:
1. Click on the speech bubble on top of the Chat window 2. Enter "New Player Fleets" (without the quatation marks) 3. Click "join" 4. Profit!
We will do our best to answer any question you have, provide you with useful links to make your eve live easier.
If you wish you can also come along with us when we make some ISK (a lot more than you could possibly make alone as a new player).
We also have experienced PvPers in the channel who can teach you a few things or who will give you the chance to join a fleet to get your taste of internet spaceship explosions :).
So join now! It-¦s a service completly for your benefit and it comes for free! |

What has worked for you in terms of recruitment? In the past, simply sitting in school / career systems talking in local has had a single-digit-percentage hit rate. I sit in Help chat and suggest to folks that they join channels based on their needs, that has about a 1/10 success rate in terms of getting people into channels.
I guess it really just becomes a numbers game, where I just park an alt in a career system and mention the channel and offer help locally?

So far sadly, not many rookies are taking us up on the offer, but that is not really unusual as well. Advertising in those system surely helps in regards to visibility, but from my experience with other channels, the best thing you can do is just buzz around and invite people into fleets and then letting them know about the channel and that they can join the channel too, if they want to keep updated about fleets that are being organised.
It is a lot easier to convince people to join a "community" if they are already having fun with members of that "community" and see that the people there really are doing things and don-¦t just throw out adverts in order to get peoples attention.
My plan for today for example to fly around amarr rookie systems see if I can get people to join a fleet to run some level 4 missions in a nearby system and will also hand out the ships to them to use for the "event", so they don-¦t even have to put their few assets they have at risk and then while we run missions will mention the channel and explain to them what it is about.
But yes, helping locally surely helps as well. People are much more likely to follow people who have proven to actually be helpful in regards to achieving their personal goals, even if it-¦s just simple goals as finishing a basic mission or building some items and so on. |

People are much more likely to follow people who have proven to actually be helpful in regards to achieving their personal goals, even if it-¦s just simple goals as finishing a basic mission or building some items and so on. What if there were scheduled fleets? Then it's "join this cool channel so you can see when the next fleet is going to be" rather than "join the channel so you can die in a fire today." I'm still all for it, but as far as a perception issue goes, looking at a schedule is way less intimidating than actually doing the missions. I've talked about it with a few rookies and they were really hesitant. Also, with scheduled fleets, it improves the perception of competence, that they might survive with their ships.
The experience could also be streamlined if we could put together a variety of loadouts suitable to each faction, each ship class. Helping out around the Dagan mission, most of the fits I see are straight up bad. Maybe limit standardized loadouts to frig/dessie to encourage folks to learn how to put together their own good loadouts after that.
I think that as long as the experience is streamlined, just make a lot of noise in the mission hubs about how much fun everyone is having, and word would get around.

While I have nothing against sheduled fleets in general and surely some of the people will at some point do sheduled fleets they have a big disadvantage.,
For me personally the only reason why I hang out in high sec is that I don-¦t want to plan my life around eve shedules anymore. I have done that for years as alliance member and I rather just play when I am in the mood to play and have time instead of having to plan everything ahead and having to be there at certain times.
If we would run the whole thing in a form of a serious corp I would agree, but the whole point of just getting together in a channel is being able to be more casual about it and not having any obligations to do things at a certain time.
That is at least how I see it, I can not speak for the others in the channel. |

I like this idea! I've been hanging around in the channel for 2 days now but unfortunately the amount of new players there is not that great. Maybe we need more people around the rookie systems or advertise in some other way.
Anyhow I like to join one of these fleets in Amarr space and been fiddling with an Armor support ship. I'm by no means an Alpha character but I also don't want to bring a high DPS ship in, that would spoil the idea a bit I think.
I made this Dominix below. Please let me know if I can improve it. Armor tanking is quite new for me and as you can see I need to use some meta4 items to make it work.
Someone in Help channel said I might possibly be better off with a Nestor. Looking into that as well.

Tank looks fine, but it-¦s a bit heavy in regards to cap recharge. The other problem I see with the dominix as support ship is the limited RR range which will pretty much force people to anchor up on you, while you slowboat through the mission.
While in general there is nothing wrong with that, I kinda prefer letting the little ones a little put more room to pilot manually instead of turning them into pure F1 warriors right from the start :).
Usually I would also go with sentry drones on a domi and an MJD, but of course that will not work if you have to slowbaot around as anchor :).
Not saying it won-¦t work though, it is just a slightly different approach to getting the job done :). |

You're doing good work, OP.
If I run across you in high sec I will jump in and help run new guys thru L4's (although my list of L4 agents is tiny). For years I've been on these forums preaching fleet PvE rather than the paradigm of obsessively doing it solo. I am convinced getting people to see PvE as a fleet activity will be the single biggest boost to getting people to stick with Eve, and upgrade to a paid sub- and eventually PvP.
