Edited by: Rod Steel on 05/04/2007 11:32:15 Edited by: Rod Steel on 05/04/2007 11:31:06 Been doing lvl4's for a while, thought I'd try a lvl3 in my trusty Gila for a bit of fun, so I took on The Blockade...this mission could qualify for lvl4! Only 1 room, with 2 groups initially (Guristas), and they all aggro at once, consisting mainly of BC's (enforcers and executioners - bounty 135,000) and cruisers (inc. 6 Dire Pith Abolishers - bounty 230,000), with half a dozen small frigs running jammers, webbers and scramblers(?). I was soon overwhelmed, so I warped out and returned in my BS (Raven)...no sooner had I started popping the BC's, when more ships spawned in, until there had to be at least 25 - 30 ships blasting away at me. Fortunately I could tank it ok, but it was a flat out maelstrom of non-stop missiles for almost 25 mins before it began to slow down...Then the newly-spawned frigs started jamming me from over 200km away ! I haven't had this mission before that I can remember (been a while since I did lvl3's), but I think it's a tad too hard as it stands for a lvl3, especially considering that most folk would try it in a BC I would imagine. The dps in those 25 mins easily equalled what some lvl4's do, and a lot of it from over 100kms away. Anybody else find this mission difficult for a lvl3?

the trick on a blockade always is that killing a defined ship triggeres next spawn. so do not kill the wrong one first ;) but anyway a blockade is one of the hardest missions each level

I was a bit surprised by this mission (the Sansha version, but it still hurts) when I first did it. My Prophecy was fitted for gank and only had a dual EANM tank - which worked really well on other missions and I was too lazy to fit actives. Popped the triggers in an unlucky order and it took me no less than four warp in/outs kiting the mass of ships to take them down.
The next time I did it I asked someone which were the triggers, and had no problems after that.
Actually, a lot of the new wave-based missions are pretty evil. If you know which ships are the triggers (sometimes they have different names to the rest of the spawn) then it's easier, but on some L4s I couldn't figure out which were the triggers except by trial and error.

I didn't know that...I haven't yet been given the blockade lvl4, but now I know what to expect if/when it's offered.

Edited by: timov on 05/04/2007 12:11:49 some of the new missions (cargo delivery e.g.) follow the same way, other (technological secrets (non of the new) & gone berserk e.g.) r having time sheduled spawns.
depending on your agents quality there could be up to 4 equal ships who might be the one causing next spawn in a blockade, so may be you need to guess at a point, usually the ones spawning nearer to your position. and usually that r the biggest ones - so run that mission buttom up in kills ;)
-- edit: and note anywhere what ship causes the spwan - or ask someone who knows before

The level 3 version is fairly predictable - whenever I've done it, I would always leave the obviously uniquely named rat until last as this was the trigger for the next wave. The level 4 version, however, seems to be a little more random - I've had situations where the unique rat was the trigger, but also situations where the first ship destroyed was the trigger. The damping in level 4 is pretty heavy, as well - I would lose pretty much any lock after about 20 seconds, and my targetting range was fairly consistently low. I spend most of my time in that mission just trying to re-establish locks.

Edited by: Cheyenne Shadowborn on 05/04/2007 13:33:57 I did Blockade L3 in my Drake with named fittings (below tech II level) and two tech II BCUs.
I was lazy and just shot (and hence aggroed) nearly everything. Didn't have any major problems (I think I warped out once though). But yeah, its definetly the toughest L3 if aggroing everything.
Its the one mission I deny ever since because the reward wasn't really worth the hassle.
Edit: I recently found that at least some L3 missions are easier for me in a Drake than in a Raven. +20% resistance (BC level 4) ftw --

i did it in a hurricane for a good part. the only real problem was my kill speed ( low skills :P ) my tank held as i didnt spawn more then 1 wave, and i kept my range
eventually a corp mate helped me in his drake and he could tank 2 waves no problem. i wouldnt call this a VERY hard mission if you use your head a little. tho it does take ages

I did it again this afternoon. The mission is fine as long as you know which ships not to kill until you're ready for the next wave. My only complaint is the Dire Pith Infernos and Abolisher ships (228k and 280k respectively). Those things have one helluva tank. I can barely break it using 6 T2 cruise launchers. -- (Battle hardened industrialist)

I was a MAJOR proponent of using Raven's for level 3's before Kali. But with the drake in the game I no longer use my Raven. The drake is a far better level 3 ship, not to mention it tanks better unless you got billions to spend and it's easier to tank. Plus I got a nighthawk now... which makes the drake look like a toy.
As to The Blockade. The mission is only hard if you have no clue how to do it. IMO there should be more information in the mission log as to how to accomplish it... instead of a trial and error approach. Otherwise it is just fine. It's actually very easy once you understand how to do it... I turn it down now to because of how dang long it takes to kill everything and get it all within a small bubble for salvaging/looting. Easier to just do other missions that take less time to group everything.

this mission is verry easy once you know how to deal with. first park your ship at 60 km up to mining outpost, and about 90km away from the stasis tower. that way you will have a group poping arround 70km and a pop at 150km+, and the trigger is always in the 150km groups. just wait for each group to come in range that way you dont have to deal with all of them at once, just sit there and watch tv:) my drake never droped down to 60% |

yea ok I warped in at 100m after I had intially recived all the aggro, after that they all pushed to the 100 m mark which in turn let me warp out and back in at zero. This mission with the heavy battering is a dangerous one to take considering you may get lag killed.

I love this mission because all the wrecks are in one room and are usually in the same area. (if you kill everything in the same spot) this coupled with the amount of wrecks is a BOON to salvaging. ============================== Milonia Aranon Security Officer of APEX Unlimited Piloting the ACV Inevitable - Rokh class Battleship

Oveur: Dev-team, we need to take the bat through the current missions Oveur: to make the gap smaller between level 3 and level 4 missions Dev: So tell us lads on eve-o, what missions are your worst nightmares? Eve-o: Given the amount of time, the assault, worlds-collide... Oveur: Dev did you get any good respons, because I want to invent the new level 5,6 and 7 missions Dev: Yes, the eve-o lads had the following missions in mind... Oveur: Nice! Thank you! Oveur: Now, what is this all about on the pvp side Dev: Mostly ECM and NOS that needs the nerf bat what eve-o lads are complaining about Oveur: Let's give them a little education Oveur: Let's boost the level 3 and 4 so that 5,6 and 7 are more doable in PVP style gang wise Dev: They are complaining Oveur, NOS needs the nerfbat Oveur: I never said which bat I'm going to use, but for 's sake, not the nerfbat Dev: That means that Caldari is not the omgwtfpwndmissionrunning race anymore Oveur: I never liked them anyway Dev: But what should we train? Gallente? Oveur: Just take your polaris and see how hard it is now and stop complaining Dev: I'm not complaining, the lads from eve-o are complaining Oveur: You want war, you get war, we are boosting and hiking up gas-prices here Oveur: The noobs will be hardened warriors from the beginning! Dev: But how about the carebear running missionaries? Oveur: It is about time that they learn what it is like in a war Dev: Well GM's will get blown apart by the petitions they will be receiving Oveur: This is a war, they don't want a nerfbat, they get a bat and still not happy with it? Dev: but they can never tank this kind of damage! Jamming and Nos damage is a tough cookie! Oveur: We will introduce the next level of mods soon, a tech3 BS and allow Capitals into empire Dev: (starts crying now) Oveur: very nasty grin...

I hate blockade, and I'm only level 2. But then again, I'm an Industry guy.
One of the nifty tricks in Blockade is that there are structures at about 130km on the -Z axis(down) and another group off to one side. If you immediately start climbing once you enter the space, you can warp to the -Z structure once you hit 150km distance or so.
This can can give you some much-needed breathing room when it gets crowded

I used a speed sniper Rokh in these before I went over to tanking, and I did discover there's an outer limit you can pull ships away before they'll disengage and turn back. Its about 250-300 km from center. Pour on the speed and pull away, and you should get enough breathing room to work with. I like blockade alot cause it's one of the few missions where the new spawns won't attack drones. (at least in the version against serps) And the rewards in bounties are pretty sweet.
But yeah, when you do blockade the first time it's a pretty hard mission. When you learn you should take the specially named rats last it gets alot easyer.
The lvl4 one is a bit more tricky tho. In some spawns there arn't any specially named rats and then it's more a game of luck.

ok, I'm doing level 3 blockade. Gurista pirates. I have like 8 infernos (and the trigger ship left) and my wrath cruise missiles are barely scratching them. They regen shields before I am able to do any real damage. Any suggestions please would be appreciated.

It is a tough mission, running lvl 3's in my Vulture atm to grind up to lvl 4 for a new corp. Tank was fine for obvious reasons, just I was unable to deal enough damage to quuickly kill the dire cruisers.

Doing Blockade lv3 in a Myrmidon is a very easy task. I am armor tanking and never fell so far below 50% shields. Also using only heavies (harder to kill frigates, but not so hard). The key is the distance and the drones.

I love how many people say its easy when you know how... and then omit the 'how' in their observation. I warp out and back in - in what I hope is the final wave and always end up in the middle of lots of baddies. So I decide to do this with the intention of finding the ones with different names there seems to be about four of everything, variations of Wing Leader etc, is there a generic name for the odd one out like Pirate Pete or something? I am flying a Myr with passive shield tank, should be doable easy... I know, but it took so long I decided to have a break (down time) ffs!

When doing the Blockade, what you want to do is sort your Overview by name.
In every wave there should be several various NPCs with the same name, and then one NPC of a certain name.
Now, its not going to be a special name, like a named NPC, but it is going to be the only with that name.
Just keep killing until you are ready spawn the next wave, then pop the one that spawns the next wave.
I've done with both with an Drake and a Myrmidion.
In the Drake I simply keep pulling wave after wave, since my tanking set up gives me 18,000 shield with 87% resists across the board.
In the Myrmidion, I usually take a little more care not to spawn more than 1 wave at a time, as they can overwhelm my tank a little. Generally though 6 medium rails and 5 Tech II drones chew up stuff.
As far as this mission not being worth it. If you are patient and let everything get within 20km of you, and you can tank while sitting still, it makes salvaging nice. The loot and the salvage you can get off this mission is well worth it.
