Hello there o/
First thing I want to say to you is Merry Christmas
I'm flying a tengu for my missions ( L4 ) and now i'm wondering which marauder is the best. I'm specialized in missiles, but it doesn't bother me to have to learn an other type of DPS. I just want to follow the best way as I can. Moreover I was wondering if the Kronos is the ship i want because I'm Caldari and they are "specialized" in Missiles and Rails. So if someone can tell me what's the best marauder to pewpew/salvage the missions i'll be happy
By the way, I really love my Tengu for missioning but i'm just looking for a new skill plan.

I always liked running a Golem/Tengu/CNR combo when I was running missions. Take the Golem out for missions appropriate to it, the CNR for most of the rest, and the Tengu out for the ones where you got to travel a bit. I also enjoyed the Vargur primarily because of its ease of use compared to the Golem. Don't let anyone tell you it gets full damage at range though - even with 5% hardwirings and faction mods it doesn't.
The Paladin ******* sucks against Guristas and Angels - though this is purely because of damage type selection. I never liked the Kronos but I guess if I ever get back into running missions I'll have to reevaluate it.

Kronos is decent these days, no fancy dps numbers but a very stable platform, kin/therm only obviously. Knowing you have Missile skills then the golem is obvious, it is however much more annoying to use than any other Marauder due to needing 2 TPs and possible range issues. Overall Vargur is very good but again, you have missile skills so why bother.

I would suggest a Paladin and mission in Amarr space for a few reasons.
1. Paladin owns. 2. Missions in Amarr space are mostly Blood Raiders/Sansha so damage type will be EM/Therm which makes lasers the weapon of choice. 3. For rare missions against other factions (guristas/angels) your tengu can be used. 4. Training Amarr skills will allow you to have the skills for Nightmares and Legions which are primarily used in incursions giving you something else to do if you get bored running L4s.
The Paladin can be fit a variety of ways but I use the fit below:
Paladin [L4 Missioner]
Lows: 2x armor thermic II 1x armor em II 1 Corpus A-Type Large armor repper 3x imperial navy heatsink
Meds: 2x cap recharge II 2x tracking computer II (tracking and range scripts)
Highs: 4x tachyon Beam Laser II (Imperial Navy multi-frequency) 2x tractor beams 1x Salvager
Implants: PG8 AX-2 CC8 CX-2 Lancer G2-Epsilon
Rigs: Large Nanobot Accelerator I Large CCC I
Drones: 5 Hobgob II 5 Hammerhead II
Stats (all level 5) 1009 DPS/6943 volley (INMF guns only) to 43+41km (range scripts) 1108 DPS with hobgobs ~800 dps tank for bloods and sansha Cap stable at 52% without the repper running
Comments: I have run hundreds of L4s with this and have had no problems except in L4 Sansha Blockade(heavy tracking disruption so don't use a gunboat for it). Tachyons are good for missions but pulses and an afterburner can be fitted it you want. However, with tachyons you will kill stuff as fast as you can lock it. Salvaging is ok but I usually run 3-5 missions then come back in a Noctis.
As for the Kronos it's ok as long as you mission against serps and it can be used in incursions. I have no experience with golem or vargur since I have had no use for them as Paladin/tengu pretty much takes care of everything.

700 dps from its guns without Faction/T2 ammo or implants isn't that bad. Not saying it's on par, it isn't, but it's at least a decent mission runner now if your only option is Gallente. If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right. |

Lags behind a little still yes but 2-300 dps is an exaggeration.
These days I would suggest it is very close and really down to whom you intend to fight, pick the best damage type and resist profile for the rats.
If you are closer to a Kronos then use that then sell it for a Paladin when you have the skills.
Something like this is competitive for kin/therm missions
With Hardwirings 1107dps 712dps tank for serpentis (overtanked)
Range is comparable to the paladin and will out dps a Vargur past about 30km, one small thing to note is the Kronos is the only ship with spare drone bay so expect to not make use of the bandwidth with the others.

If you really want to get the most out of a mission boat i would suggest skipping over the maruder class and getting a Mach. They are by far superior to every maruder. You will see the speed difference and where they lack the salvager and tractor bonus you save so much time that a noctis is viable... |

I find the Vargur to be faster than a Golem, even a 5 TP Golem. The Golem loses DPS due to juggling TPs, having only 20 rounds loaded at a time, having to switch torpedo types (i.e. Javelins,) wasted DPS from overkill, volley counting, and having to rely on drones to kill frigates.
A Kronos would probably do well in Serpentis space due to how often serps like to spawn far, far away.
OTOH, an MWD Mach may have falloff concerns, but at 1500m/s, it's not a problem that lasts very long...

My Tach Pala does 1300 and my Puls Pala could do 1400(but I generally take the NM for this).
Since I had a bit time to test out the changes with my Kronos, it is still a let down. Not as much as before, but still not really satisfying in the dps department.
Btw nobody serious uses heavy drones on a Kronos(heck they are even in angel missions ineffective compared sentrys). |

The paladin complements the tengu best, imo. It's best against the em rats your tengu will (comparatively) struggle on. Plus, as mentioned, you get sansha ships, more missile boats, and the option of armor tanking when you train amarr. Win-Win. |

Thanks for all the answers, that helped me a lot
Considering the differents points of view ( Kronos => :x / Paladin => Good but only better for few type of DPS / Vargur => Just good ? / Golem => little bit slow and short optimal range ), I think that I've made my decision. Yeah I know, the way I described it shows that I should take the Vargur, but finally this is my patriotic feeling which helped me to take my decision ^^. It will be the ... Golem.
But I'm asking a question, not specially about the Golem. Indeed, with my tengu I tank all the L4 ( even the EMs, tripple webbed and full aggro) with 100% shield and CapStable. I feel reassured about it. However, the Marauders' tank ( => and cap ) scare me a little bit. For me, they seem a little bit breakable. Is there someone who can reassure me about this please ?
And if someone has got THE L4 Golem fitt he will be welcomed |

If you just do L4, tank isn't a big concern. I got 1 med rep + 2 EANM(200 ish tank) on my Pala and LAR, Hardner, 2 EANM on the Kronos(330 ish tank, mostly by the lack of dps). I also do Recon 1/3 or AE Bonus in this fittings(at least with the Kronos, I skip it with the Pala since it isn't really time/isk effective with all the elite cruisers and high end BS with her 80+ EM resists).
The golem is a nice ship, only a bit heavy on the micro, since you need to swap TPs around a lot(what is a lot more effort than swapping the optimal/tracking scripts in the TCs) and it needs a bit more movement during some missions(lack of range).
This is mine, you can swap the invus and one amp for hardeners to get better tank results, but I am mostly to lazy for this and you don't need it for most L4 missions. If you want/need more mobility, a X-Type Gist MWD is recommended(I actually did totally dig the torp tnaga on sissi by his rather good speed for a torp ship, what made it super sweet for low sec annos).

I personally never have had an issue with the Kronos. Then again, I am sort of suicidal and run an MWD and use Blasters (I like face-raping battleships ). I've run the Golem too... HATE SHIELD TANKING THAT SHIP! But, I guess its up to what you want to perfect for future ships. Marauders are skill intensive for a reason. max those skills to get the most of the bonuses. Also, Marauders are really only efficient mission runners, that's it (Unless you've got a big wallet and heavy Logi Support). The most l like from the Marauders is the Tractor Bonus for combat salvaging. Comes in handy. |

I use heavies because i like to move around unless it is a single pocket then I would use sentries.
I also havn't seen a Paladin fit that can pull of that DPS without using 3 sentries (no space for lights so you are a braver pilot than me) and short range ammo. |

It might be more about running 4 HS and a T2 damage rig, then doing L4 without the ability to deal with frigs. |

-Stop listening to bandwagon idiots.
Now for your question, there is no best Marauders. Just use the one meant for your race/region, which will be better for the missions/rats type. |

Just don't use a golem (or any other marauder for that matter) against guristas unless you like being permajammed. |

T3's were great l4 boats, and Marauders are awesome. May the cap be with you :)
of the 3 marauders I've tried, AC-Varg is my fav, but I still prefer the AC-mach becuase it locks faster.
The reason I pick the faster locking over more dps, is that to turn L4's in quickly it's about how fast you kill the frigs, not the BS's. And once they're so close to me I have to rely on (unbonused) drones to kill them, feels like time wasted.
I like the golem but it's not my first choice because its slower, and torps only go 60ish KM. Cruise golem works but slowly. Beastly tank, tho. |

I've got my eye on a Vargur to eventually replace my Maelstrom. Mainly because of halved ammo consumption, and a stack of utility highs. Then there's T2 resists, and extra pg/cpu freed up by only using four guns instead of eight. I'm not sure whether I'll use the salvaging bonus. There might be something more worthwhile to put in those highs. |

think it's a tractor beam bonus - always handy to fit one small tractor beam for those wrecks/cans that dont first self-deliver .
The spare highs also come in handy for a NOS, or RemoteCap if in fleet, and/or a smartbomb. |
