It's somewhere between 45min to 1hr 15min.
It's odd, never pinned it down.. but I've been surprised to see a can still there after a LONG time.
Yes, jet can mining can be more efficient. General rule of thumb though is to not let a can sit there for more then 30 - 40min. Also when stuff is in a can be wary of people who might steal it.

i often jetcan mine and have never had can implode on me yet. and i almost always leave a can out for at least an hour and up to 90 minutes.
given the idea i think i will do some experiments on this subject :)

if people are constently adding to a can (or atleast removing stuff) the cans timer gets refreshed. -------------------------------------

I've let them sit out for over two hours ( an entire corp op ) and the can was still sitting there until I pulled the 1 unit of Scord out of it.

It seems to depend on system use or something too...I spent some time mining in rarely used .0 a while back and I saw like week old jetcans and such. Im thinking if a system has zero people it may like shut down until someone pays a visit. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Every can I've tested in high sec has popped at almost exactly the 2 hour mark. When I used to jet can mine (too dangerous anymore) I would rotate the cans after an hour and 45 minutes and go get the hauler. <-----------> Keiron: http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=427556&page=2

I'd always heard it was about an hour, so I usually get to 50 minutes or so and then empty it out...but then, it's just about full about 50 minutes anyway.

Edited by: Komen on 06/04/2007 22:21:38 Just to further confuse the issue, I recently heard that if you do not rename the jet-can, it lasts less time (about an hour) but if you rename it, it suddenly doubles the life-expectency to about 2 hours.
I've never seen a can pop UNDER an hour on its own...then again I try to refresh/juggle my own cans at the hour mark, or if I have to move away from them. This is assuming, anyways, that I'm hauling my own, and not working with a hauler on a group op.
I seem to remember, way back, someone suggested 'distance from the sun' as a factor, but that sounds like a dodgy rumor at best, and I cannot recall ever seeing a dev state what the rules are regarding jet-can longevity. It's probably one of those things that they love to see us fumbling at, like how they laugh when my combat drones wander off on solo vendettas against that battleship waaaay over there. They're out to get me, I tells ya.

You can make a new jetcan what...? Every two minutes? If you're really worried about it, just make a new one and move the stuff from the old one to the new one.
Then you don't have to worry about any of this other voodoo like renaming the can or what system you're in or what have you.

I believe it is exactly 2 hours, though i've never left my ore in the can long enough to find out if thats accurate or not .

I lost a lot of ore that way several months ago. It doesn't refresh, I know for a fact. As well, I've lost cans in about 45 min so if I'm minning with a buddy, I refresh the cans every 30min.
Btw, it's better if the hauler drops the can, so he/she will get the aggresion if someone steals. It wouldn't be nice if you were killing rats when someone stole from you and your drones decided to attack the one who stole suddenly.

some rumor i heard its dependent of your skill in anchoring somehow.
some fact i have seen is theres a green or red light if you zoom on the can. red means it will pop in a while.

Based on a 5 can test that I conducted a few months ago, I've had named cans last between 1 hr 45 minutes to 2 hrs. You should be fine if you name the can and refresh it every 90 minutes. However, since you never know what interruptions may occur in real life (dropped connection, unexpected server reboots, spouse/kids needs, etc.), I normally refresh the can every hour. ---------------- Mutatis Mutandis |

It must either be completely random, depend on location, depend on contents of can, or some other factor rather than a set time.
Since I saw this thread I went to a SS (AU's from everything) in 0.0 space, jettisoned 2 cans with 1 trit each and the 2nd one I named. I've not moved from this location since and neither of the cans have popped. It is now 2 hours and 10 minutes. I give up at 2.5 hours . When mining I always refreshed at 45 mins and had never, ever lost a can.

Edited by: Gladia Horusthu on 07/04/2007 04:40:54 Last time the devs posted about a change, I think it was randomized somewhere between 1 and 2 hours, based on other factors. Part of this may have been to reduce lag from cans. One of the at-the-time speculated factors was the presence of other cans. Rats left loot cans not wrecks, and the more cans were in the belt the shorter time all cans lasted before popping. I remember at the time sometimes there'd be upwards of 50 loot cans in the belt after a couple hours of constant mining, and we were swapping out the ore cans ever 45 minutes or so.
Edit: There is no "exact time" for cans, period, and as the above poster said swapping them out every 45 minutes is probably the best policy. If you can't juggle refreshing your full cans while filling a new can, it's time to haul
