Could someone explain this to me? I don't see the difference between 10 and 0, you're still under 20k and inside point range. I'd think warp to 30km or warp to 100km check, then come back would be the advice. What am I missing?

If you're warping to 0, chances are you'll be stuck inside the actual structure of the gate. Which will hinder you from either warping off or actually taking the gate. Bad for all cases I can imagine. While the warp to 10km will still have you inside the range to activate the gate. |

Different gate types have different sizes and it calculates the distance from the gate as a whole so it's very well possible that you warped at 10km from the gate icon but due to the size of the gate itself it shows you at 0km. Those acceleration gates are LONG and they pull the same trick. |

distances on a lot of things are based on the edge of its sphere. With an accelleration gate, the center of that sphere is the icon, the edge of the sphere is the part of the model furthest from the icon, meaning a lot of the sphere is empty space. As far as warp to distance, a lot of times, when you warp to a site, whether mission or exploration, the site spawns after you hit the warp button and puts the entry point on where you exit warp. You can get around it by hitting warp to get the site to spawn, then ctrl space to cancel your warp, then doing your warp to distance.
edit: though I'm thinking that might not have been your question. And I think I'm still fuzzy on what your question actually was. Looking for advice on warping to jump gates in lowsec or something? Yeah, a warp to 10km on a jump gate is dumb. Not sure who told you that, but might have been a typo for 100km.

This has never ever ever happened to me though. And ive been running missions and Incursions all my life. |

my very 1st death was when i was stuck on the accel gate and by stuck i mean you bump and bounce on the gate delaying you entering the plex significantly.
very frustrating if somebody is chasing you or if your gang is trying to have the position advantage inside the plex.
when you try to warp to an accel gate at 10KM you'll still land at 0 so you can immediately spam the warp button to slide in.

This used to be a problem years ago. Since then the landing point has changed a couple of times. Usually you are now dropped clear off the gate. At least I haven't encountered any problems in the last couple of years.
Remove standings and insurance.

You are not warping to the acceleration gate, rather you are warping to a beacon near the acceleration gate.
Beacons can be invisible (one upon a time they were always visible, but CCP changed this since it broke immersion). |

That might explain another problem I've been having. I've been wondering why there are two icons for the complex. I always seem to shoot the wrong one.
