Would the targeting penalties from fitting warp core stabilizers affect FOF missles? That is, would my FOF missles only travel as far as my targeting range even though I don't have to target, or would they still work at their maximum range?

Yes. FoFs only work out to your max locking range.
Fitting WCS, getting sensor damped, both of these gimp FoFs.

To my knowledge, FOF can go pass lock point. I had a Gila pinned with my Arazu, at 45 km, and he pegged me with heavy FOF and I had to bugger off.

Really? Hm, I must had the wrong idea about FoF mechanics.

In the past FOF's have been unable to hit anything outside the ships max targeting range, that is what made dampers a good counter to FOF missiles. I was not aware that this was ever changed however it is possible, i just havent found anyone using FOF missiles in a long time.
If this is true then the new counter to FOF missiles (after damping of course, they arent going to load FOF's unless they need to) would be to deploy drones. This should spread the FOF missiles damage out enough to make it tankable, just use smaller faster drones and scoop them/redeploy as need to keep them from poping. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.

Not sure about WCS gimping FoF's, but its been proven that getting sensor damped does NOT gimp them. Its a myth, probably designed to get Arazu pilots killed :)

Similar experience, but my target was a raven with FoF cruise. Wasnt expecting him to be able to hit me with FoFs since I know for sure my damps knock a battleship down to about a 10k lock range and I was at like 40k. That really sucked.

Same thing happened to me (only my arazu was fighting a cerberus ). We had a domi and myrmidon in gang, the freaking cerb ate all of our drones with incredible speed, even the heavies. We were in a dedspace and the cerb was the only one with AB, so he never got webbed and therefore didn't get into blaster range. My arazu had to run eventually (1600mm rolled tungsten ftw), but that was one lucky cerberus pilot. FoF ftw. _________ Gallente FTW |

Guns that fire drones at the enemy? Wow... wonder if they'll hit what you fire them at, or just go do their own thing...
And at the poster above, yes, FoF are very useful in PvP.

yeah FoF missiles arnt affected by WCS, I paid for my Drake by salavaging wrecks in a highly populated low sec system (pirates included), so I occasionally had 1 or 2 heavies or assult missiles packed with FoF to make the little frig pilots run away when I was in my stabber, or to kill off the rats if there lots of things to salvage. But I don't recomend relaying on FoF missiles unless its absolutely nessary.

If I remember the enemy has to target you, and possibly engage (never used FoF on a PC who just targeted and not engaged), so the idea of unleashing those FoF missiles in the area of someone is out of the question. That and you also need someone to tackle for you since you will have no range at all on your raven afterwards and will take forever to get a lock, so your own scram's out of the question.
Not to mention you have a gimped set up, and unless you were able to get a lock on them somehow (probably take a few minutes if you could), you wont be able to use your drones.

Sure, because your 7 FoF heavy missiles, which will decide themselves which rat to hit, will focus and inflict enough damage to break the rat Battleships tanks in a reasonable amount of time, right? If you manage to kill one battleship each 30 min I will be surprised...
Give me a break. With the current penalties anyone who uses WCS in anything that is supposed to fire will have poor results, period.

Doesnt FoF attack drones as well as attacking ships?
And well, 4 WCS, even 1 WCS gimps BS like theres no tommorow, if long ranged you still loose 1-2 mids for another sensor booster, if short ranged then loosing mids for tackling equipment makes you just landen with above said sensor boosters. Not worth it. Rather be carefull then easy target for any half-decent cruiser gang. ---

1/ Apparently FoFs work outside of targeting range, so WCS doesn't affect them.
2/ Yes FoFs can break an NPC tank. They aren't that much less powerful than normal ones.
3/ Although you can't decide what the FoFs aim at, they will all go for the same thing.

Actually, FoFs tend to shoot the nearest target, and fof cruises only do like 10% less damage than regular cruises.
So it might work.

FOF's need some kind of aggro from yourself or someone else to work. Once that happens they operate by themselves, so their max range can be greater then your targetting range. However if you are depending on aggroing in order to lock your FOF's, then it is a good idea to have your targetting range farther then the fof's range.......
