I was unclear, but what I meant is that all MPEG-4 compressors use inter-frame and intra-frame compression. DivX, Xvid, even the Microsoft reference one ( also known as "Divx ;-)" ).

I have problems exporting the video after adding sound in VirtualDubMod, I go to Save As..., chose Direct Stream Copy in the video box, it starts to save it but after a split second I get this error "Video frame 26 could not be read from the source. The file may be corrupt." I haven't tried to re-encode it with x264 yet, but the file plays fine in VLC etc, without errors. I'll try to run the original through x264 again when I get the time. But as for now, any ideas?
Thanks, Lageen

It was stickied. Then they removed ALL stickies apart from the 3 new ones which are a conglomerate of all the ex stickies.....
I still have no idea why the hell they did it.

I have no clue, my dear Lowa. Think it was stickied once, but for some odd reason it got unstickied - I could be wrong though. _____________________________________

Seems like videofiles that i load into Premiere or Moviemaker get blurry by default. If i select the movie in the previewwindow it becomes sharp again. But blurry as hell when i start the preview or export them.

Thank god for this guide, I like the whole frapsing and stuff. But then to make it in a working vid, that looks nice and is an acceptable filesize....GREAT JOB DS!
I see your the second link now in Resources Could have been the first .
Anyhowz, you explain in great detail how to convert it. What is great info!
My biggest problem was to actually get a lossless file in 1920x1080 29.x fps(i fraps at that resolution) to then convert to for example MKV.
Like the AVI uncompressed format as its set at 10bit (UYU I believe IÆm at work, typing from memory) the exported file is not recognized by anything except Premiere itself. After a while I discovered at 8bit, it does work.
A fellow fraps friend of mine, has the same kind of problems.
WhatÆs is in your opinion the best way to get decent file out of Premiere? And what I'm reading is correct almost no one will be able to play the end product at that resolution. What would be a good strategy that the quality is still at the level you can read all on the screen, but on the other hand doesnÆt mean you need a very fast machine (like at what stage do I need to go to a lower resolution etc)?

For a lossless export from Premiere, use Lagarith or HuffYUV. Lagarith is lots smaller but plays back slower.
For 1920x1080 playback, here's what I'd do: offer three different versions of the video, like for my PvP Tournament video.
1. Full resolution H.264, high or medium quality. Largest filesize. (870MB for my 50 minute 1680x1050 video on High Quality)
2. 720p resolution H.264, medium quality. Much lower filesize and playable by nearly all machines. (270MB for my 50 minute 1152x720 video, resized from 1680x1050 on Extra Sharp mode).
3. 720p resolution VC-1 (WMV9 Advanced Profile), 1 megabit bitrate. Somewhat lower quality than 2) but still watchable. Its going to be about 50% larger than 2) also. But it makes the people without the CCCP happy.

This has all been very helpful, still I'm very much a noob with this. I've been playing with the H.264 thing but can't get sound to work (posted on this earlier). Also I needed editing software so I chose Sony Vegas (which someone recomming in this thread I think), I've been joking around with it and for me it seems to work well; enough options but not stupidly difficult.
My problem is the following; I fraps at 1680x1050 and both with WMV as H.264 I can get nice results quality wise (although I still can't get that 2-pass thing to work for WMV), but I really want to resize it as well since using 1680x1050 is a bit overdone for most stuff (also I don't want to clog up eve-files). I tried resizing in Vegas but all that does is resize the video while keeping the format 1680x1050. Dunno what I'm doing wrong.
So would I be better off by using a different program to resize the video and if so, what order should I use, fraps-resize-edit-compress or some other way?

You can edit your video in 1680x1050 if you can't get Vegas to work correctly, and then resize later. My H.264 AutoEncoder has a built-in high quality resizer.

Hi,
as promised, I gave it a try and got everyting up to 1920x1072 in my (first) new movie.
Mostly thx to your nifty tool (put you in the credits )!
http://oldforums.eveonline.com/?a=topic&threadID=575998
I have posted multiple settings:
Very High: Autoencoder on maximum quality and medium file size, base file was a 12GB losless Avi, no resizing.
High: Autoencoder on medium quality and medium file size, base file was a 12GB losless Avi, no resizing.
Medium: Autoencoder on high quality and medium file size, base file was a 12GB losless Avi, resized at 72%.
Low: Autoencoder on low quality and medium file size, base file was a 12GB losless Avi, resized at 60%.
Even on the lowest setting it still readable (just).
But on the highest it almost looks like my original fraps 99% .
