I hear this is possible but very hard.
So I gave it a try today with a load full of 10 au and 5 au probes but no luck. We had a hulk on scanner at 2 au with fresh mining cans (mining in a mission complex) but over 15 minutes of scanner gave nothing. So is scanning ships inside deadspace complexes even possible?

I have had sucess @ 5 and 10 AU using the the best probes for the distance available
Its is a chance based system with skills effecting your chance - as well as other factors.
Perserverance and a 30 sec scan time is the key :)

Have killed a few pp in deadspace and mission, the secret is getting within 5 au once you done this its just a matter of time having good skills in scanning also works. Your signature exceeds the maximum allowed filesize of 24000 bytes -Hango ([email protected]) |

had some success some months ago by making 2 spots within 5 AU of the target, and then scanning using both. (ofc not overlapping)
if they are doing exploration you could find them with exploration probes too, i guess they dont work on regular missions :)

Edited by: Larkonis Trassler on 09/04/2007 15:12:16 Letting away trade secrets here but if you can get to within 4 AUs and use the corresponding Survey probe to ship type (IE Gravametric for Caldari ships) you'll be scanning with more than 10x the strength of a snoop with 5x the scan time. I personally prefer hammering out scans with the recon launcher but I've had success with both types of probe. Also, use the directional scanner to find out what type of drone he's using and scan for drones too. Approximately 2/3s of the mission runners I ping come from me hitting their drones rather than their ships. ------------ Request for Privateer Sticky! Keep the forums clean!

I am more then a little dismayed that A Hulk driver let you scan from 2 AU for 15 solid minutes without budging.
Heck, I'd be out of there within 15 seconds. Watching local and directional, if I see Santa Claus drop a probe I am already alligned and the jolly fat man can pound sand.
Funny though, I've dropped exploration probes (actually looking for hidden complexes, honest) in low sec systems with a few missioners present and within minutes the entire lot is docked, switched to PvP boats and hunting ME.
Other places with hordes of missioners I'll drop a snoop probe just for giggles and nobody at all notices or reacts. They seem to count on not being the three legged wildebeast that gets cut from the herd today.
