I was trying to open my port on my router but unsure of the protocal. I know the port # is 26000 but do I set it as tcp or udp? Any help would be greatly apprecited as I have tried a lot of thing but I am still losing connection to the server every few minutes.

If you've connected, you need not touch the ports. There are a few possible reasons for the connection loss. Do you only lose connection with the game or the entire internet connection? I've noticed a problem with the Windows XP SSDP Discovery service in that it causes my router to reboot every so often. When this happens, I lose the connection for everything. This may be happening to you. You can check it by running services.msc, double click on the "SSDP Discovery Service". If it says that the service is started, click "stop" and then set it to "disabled" or "manual". If this is notthe problem, try bypassing the router, connecting the computer directly to the internet connection. You could also try reinstalling the game. If all else fails, how old is your cable/DSL modem? I had severe packet loss when using a broadband phone service on an older cable modem. Once upgraded, the problem disappeared.

Keep in mind that you have to open ports both on your router and in your windows firewall settings.
On top of that, there are many makes and models of routers out there, each with there unique capabilities.
Would be nice if you write which manufacturer (brand) and model of your router is exactly.

I had/have a similar issue with my Linksys router. Even with port 26000 forwarded, every few minutes I would disconnect from Eve. I am not sure, but it's possible that it could be losing connection with everything and not just Eve, like Mintoko stated, so I will have to look into that and his solution. Be nice if it worked.
How I got past it was to setup a DMZ to my main Eve playing PC so that it would bypass the hardware firewall altogether and just use a software one. Not ideal, I know, but it stops the disconnections everytime.
