I want see massive and elegant passenger vessels flying from system to system. And I want to own them and fly them, at a profit. At aThe ships would be eye-popping to look at, full of people, fitted with restaurants, ballrooms, shops, bars,holo-decks, gymnasiums, swimming pools, casinos, observation decks (all of these are purchasable modules..), and staffed with waiters, flunkeys, chefs, and with musicians , comedians , entertainers, card-sharps, and con-men. (Some of these real players).
The liners would belong to a player corporation û not to a player û and be flyable by anyone in that corporation who has the right skills. The pilot skills (the æPassenger VesselÆ skill tree ) would probably be based on a branch from Industrial, and the pilot and corporation would have to be in good standing with Concord. The corporation would buy a licence to run a particular route from an Empire, at vast expense. The corporation would then be committed to running that route at a set frequency: failure to run it would result in penalties and then loss of contract. You could get more complex than that. There have been several passenger transport games on the PC over the years: you could redeploy some ideas. E.G. different yields per passenger if your ship has more facilities; different classes of passenger who make choices between competing ships and lines based on price/speed/facilities. Stuff like that. And CCP could start simple, and ramp up the ideas in later patches.
Other thoughts òPlayers can book trips on the vessels as well as being a pilot (get you out of a station camp!) òCruises as well as scheduled routes; perhaps to see new any visual stuff that CCP put in (they are going to make the Eve universe more interesting arenÆt they? û itÆs very pretty, but Oh So Repetitive!!) òA skill-point learning speed bonus after youÆve taken a holiday trip on a cruise ship? òMake them so you can walk about in them too û like stations are going to be û with different visual styles; 1930Æs elegance; Las Vagas brashness. òSome missions û the first out-of-pod missions? û would happen on these ships. òThe big ones would have their own market? You could set up sell-orders for small volume stuff on them. Tax-free! òBig snazzy liners of course; but also system-only shuttle buses (a good first career for noobs û get them away from starter stations, and mining?) òYou can fly up to such a ship, and look in through the class-domed observation decks, and see the gardens, fountains, games players, and children looking up and waving back. òYou could have some specialist NPC corp owning/flying these as well?
Finally: I think liners with passengers in them should be unarmed and invulnerable to player characters. Only ever attacked by NPCs, and only in low Sec. Not that liners would go to low-sec. If a player attempts to fire on a vessel, you should get a Y/N warning message, as now, but if you then try to fire nothing happens because your crew and AI mutiny to stop you. Because in Real Life, OOG, terrorists have attacked passenger transports and will do it again; and it would be sick (and seen as sick in the press) to allow similar stuff in a game. I like PvP, but this would be bad. Watch your back, CCP, is all!
Any takers for this totally care-bear trip?
