Only been playing a few weeks now but starting to get a collection of copper and bronze tags of the various pirate organizations, and so far I've been told to vendor sell them, keep them, etc, but haven't gotten a clear answer on what they're used for. Ie, missions, can you turn them in for security, etc.
Can anyone enlighten me on their use? Couldn't find much in the forums other than WTB and WTS. ><

They have no real use. I typically melt them down or look for a place in the region that will purchase them off of me.

Some of the offers from agents include pirate tags as part of the payment you make.
For example, there is an offer from Amarr agents that trades a Navy Slicer blueprint for a collection of Sansha and Blood Raider tags, one from Uleen Bloodsworn (a named mission rat) plus about fifty thousand Loyalty Points.
There are others.
I use http//:caver.org/eve to check requirements for offers you could trawl through that if you are interested enough.
Racial Navy tags can just be sold to the opposing factions' Navy. Amarr buy Gallente and Minmatar tags, for example.

Not sure if this holds true anymore but there used to be missions with a bonus part where to be able to do this bonus part you needed a specific pirate tag in your cargo to unlock the acceleration gate.
One example would be the Angle/Guristas/etc Extravaganza bonus stage.

Occasionally certain tags are needed to operate jump gates within missions, although this is fairly unusual and is not mission critical. These bonus rooms can have nice drops though. The tag is not destroyed in the process.
