There you have it....
I'll be in my first retriever very soon and was wondering if my mining upgrade modules would affect the mining amount of my strip miners as they do regular mining lasers. I have basic CPU upgrades so i should be able to put both Strips online despite the increased CPU usage.
The Upgrades, plus my skills in mining netted me an 83.16m3 per t2 mining laser. 4 x t2 mining lasers meant i was pulling 332.64m3 per minute. I know that 2 strip miners will be better, but i also think it might not be by that much....especially if mining upgrade mods don't apply to them.
I'd like to be able to calculate my pull-per-minute with my strips so i can plan my mining accordingly. Thanks ahead of time for the info.

Yes. But you can fit only one on barge.

With minimal skills: 540 * 1.20 * 1.20 * 1.09 * 1.05 = 889,9632 per 3 minutes
Two strips per 3 minutes - 1779,9264

Mona...where are you getting those figures from? the 1.2 and such....i just calculated 5% of 540 for each of my levels in mining skill....then calculated another 5% for the mining upgrade mod on top of that...came out with a total 1378m3 per 3 min. for 2 strip miners....where are my numbers wrong in that calculation?
I've seen those numbers before...but i don't know where they come from.
Thanks again for the help.

Okay i just did some calculations...and i wanna know if i'm right on them.
Retriever Fitted With: 2 Strip Miners 1 Mining Upgrade
Also equipped with 5 Mining Drones,
My Skills in relevant areas: astro geo IV Mining IV Barge III
total....i ended up with 2,033.86m3 for 2 equipped Strip Miners
Add another 78.5 for Mining Drones and it's 2112.61m3 per 120 sec.
Is this correct?

levels of skill add. ie Mining II gives +10% not +(5%*5%)

Bonuses from skilla stack, so mining at level 4 gives you 20%, same for astrogeology, and mining barge at 3 gives 9%.

excellent....thank you guys for all the help. 1778m3 it is indeed. I understand how the system works now.
Now....my next question. I spent a really long time last night trying to find some mods that would help with shield tanking...is that even possible in a retriever? Because i plan on doing plenty of mining on my own and i don't wanna have to run off every time a couple of rat cruisers come around. wasted time.
Retriever has a small drone bay...enough for some light drones. Basically the conclusion i came to last night while looking through for stuff was that the only space where i'm really gonna be able to mine on my own is going to be high sec space.
let me know if i'm off on that. Thanks again

A retriever will have a hard time tanking anything. You should be able to tank most of the spawns down to 0.7 with a shield extender. _______________ Pwett CEO and Founder [QTC]QUANT Corp.

5 T2 scout drones are your only hope here. 3 cruisers will wreck a retriever very quickly. So I'd say, if you're soloing, 1 cruiser and 2 frigs might be possible to survive, but 2 cruisers means run. I don't know that you actually see cruiser rats in high sec. But losing a ship isn't a bad thing. I think you're best isk/hour method is to get into 00 space and mine high end mins. Be careful, have a WCS fitted if you can. When you can pay for your retriever and strips with 20 mins of mining you'll be able to have a couple of spare setups in your hangar.
The alternative, mining in 06 systems, is fine, but the path to having 20M worth of ship setups in your hangar is really slow. I think your best isk/hour in 06 space is probably 3M/hour in a retriever.

The long and short of it for me is that you should treat your retriever like a very expensive frigate. With the potential to make money like no frigate can.

Keep some t2 warriors orbiting you at ALL times, chances are when rats spawn atleast one of the drones will be closer than you and get targeted instead of your ship.
My t2 warriors can tank anything .1 and up no issue because i have good skills, granted you lose mining drones but they suck anyway. Every now and again some ships might get realy lucky and drop a drone into armor so you do need to keep an eye on them and recall if needed (not usually needed).
0.0 is impossible to tank in a barge, either get a group to mine with or get a hulk for that and you can rig it up to perma tank 0.0 spawns. ------------------------------- C.D's Formula for success ------------------------------- Credit Card = Game Time Card Gametime Card = ISK Therefore Credit Card = ISK.

Bump. Thanks again guys. lots of great info here.
I've pretty much decided that the farthest i'm gonna go is 0.5 in my retriever. with t1 light scout drones i SHOULD be able to hold off the (max 4 frig) spawns that pop up there. I WILL try to venture into 0.0 at least once for some of the more valuable stuff....although....all i'd be lookin' for is Megacyte since Zydrine sucks right now.
If i can score some Bistot i'll be good to go. Don't know if you can find much of that in Providence region...but that's where i'll likely try first.
also gonna train up my drones skills to get t2 drones.
Thanks again for all the help.

in a retriver in 0.5 i had following
2strip miners. empty 1x small armor repair
5x light scout drones.
i never had any problems.. :) now i use a covetor, with a MLU and 3strips. and 5drones. still not any problems. not gone past shields yet.

Well,if you are going to be using a ret id suggest a civ shield booster in med if you cant fit any better - low slot a CPU upgrade (if u need it) and a mining upgrade - 5 light drones.
I was mining in 0.5 space and had no problems whatso ever with that, just keep an eye on the drones as rats will target them.Just let them target u and killum, also just a tip in relation to mining.Get targetting skill up if you dont have it already and lock 1 or 2 extra riods more the you have strips - have ur 2 strips mine 1 riod each and then you have extra targets for when the ones you are mining pop.It helps increase effiency and thus income/hour.In a cov you can carry 5 mining drones and 5 light drones and basicly do the same thing.
Ive bin mining for around a year now and have bin in a hulk for awhile. 1200 units per strip FTW :P

I like to put a Survey Scanner I in the mid slot so I can see what I'm mining. (Not a named module, just the basic one... as it has the same range as the strip miners.) I pick and lock targets from the scanner output window.

Edited by: Filthy Pierre on 22/04/2007 07:25:17 A passive (read: tanking) defense against rats is not a good idea for any of the T1 mining barges in the area of 0.8 to 0.5 space.
Stay in 0.9 and 1.0 and train your drone skills until you can field four reasonably well-supported light drones. If you want to do it really well, make it five medium T2 drones (this latter assumes you've moved on to a Covetor.)
Let them do the defense work for you. They'll handle anything down to 0.5 with ease.
Below 0.5 you'll have different problems to worry about.

5 light drone will take any set of rats down to 0.5 before your shield dies just make sure they're out before you get targeted and tech 2's will kill even faster
