I hate to bring this up, but something I've noticed is that over all strategic planning seems absent from EVE beyond the 'We can bring X guys" and "We can bring X ammo/dread fuel/etc". While it *IS* true that an army marches on it's stomach, over all planning dosn't seem to have gotten much furthr then lines of supply. Except for BoB. Maybe that's why they're winning.
So far, I have observed tactical blunders on the part of both sides. However, the fleet debacles of the North are particularly worrisom. While a war of attrition might succeed in the long run, it's not going to be as effective as dealing decisive blows to BoB et al, as they have, due to the rules of EVE, an effectivly bottomless supply of manpower. Further, such a war is more aimed at draining morale from the enemy then actual resources. If you want to crush thier morale, defeat them decisivly. Here's a suggested plan to get your juices flowing.
Phase 1) Attack (fill in boarder region here, let's say Fountain) rather then try to tough it out or apply pressure to POS, ignor them. That's right, don't bother trying to claim anything. Just make a lot of noise, and start randomly blowing stuff up enough that BoB or whomever has to do something about it. Phase 2) Clear two systems of POS. Put up one or two of your own. These are to try and draw off part of the enemy cap ship fleets. Assume them to be expendible death stars. Use spoiler attacks and throw away bs fleet to distract the enemy on other fronts, forcing them to draw off troops. Titans are good for this, as it gives fleets some long range mobility. THe more personel they have to devote to the distractions the better. Phase 3) The bait. Show them the real fleet. Or sacrifice some juicy target they won't pass up. Get the enemy to move out of thier heavily defended areas after you. Don't engage them, fall back, make them split up, use recon ships and carriers to destoy them in detail. If they don't split up, use recon ships to jump troops to thier rear and cut off their retreat, attack from front and rear at once.
Simple, ne? But you'd be amazed at how few of the operations I've seen have followed basic strategies like these. Feel free to comment or add your own strategic ideas.

I think the problem with tactics in eve is that stealth is completely non-existant. With local chat and coverts you have absolutely no chance of hiding your numbers or doing anything resembling a proper ambush. Having a viable 'fog of war' would go a long way in adding more tactical choices in combat. ----- My sparkly tinfoil hat is extremely distracting, and makes my eyes bleed. -Conuion Meow ([email protected]) Join channel 'Turby' or die! If team anti bob were smart theyd use their apparent numerical advantage and just hit multiple things at once, thereby avoiding the laggy whine-o-rama associated with trying to dump 3000 people in one system. But they seem pretty well entrenched in the same tired old blobbination so I really dont see this war becoming anything but another ISK spendathon.
That being said, and to try and hijack this thread away from probable flamefest, it would be nice if CCP would do *something* such that battles werent almost entirely determined on who brings the most battleships (or dreds, whatever) to a particular engagement. _________________ [SAK] Alumnus--And Proud Of It! -- aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base?

Phew I was worried, but now that the coalition has yet another armchair strategist who knows how to run 0.0 large scale wars, the victory is certain.

There's no way they can withstand the strategy zerg! Lets start planning the party now. I'll bring guacamole. - - -

Strategic planning isn't absent in EVE. It's just very easy to lose operational suprise due to coverts, spies and local, so any form of 'strategy' is kept closely under wraps.

Well, that, plus lag, and the "free intel" the F10 key provides (eventually) are pretty much strategy killers for all intents and purposes. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

Trust me, you wouldnt want too much stealth. You'd never get a fight.

Well, one, people are looking at local the wrong way. Play it up as an advantage. Put out a visible target they have to attack (Titan's building in a shipyard, anyone?) to draw them out, and lead them on a wild goose chase while your Titans prepare to jump the whole fleet to the endgame. Slipping in a recon ship to the target and then logging it back in at the right moment to use the cynosural field is key here. Draw the enemy force off of the target. 10-12 jumps will usually suffice; as long as it terminates at the furthest range your titan can open the jump gate to the target.
This plan deals with spies by simply not telling anyone but the recon ship alt and the titan pilots the real target before it's engaged. The enemies recon ships (unless one is in system with the Titans.) would actually add to this by keeping tabs on your force to the last min. Once the target is engaged, set up the usual gate blobs, clear the system of enemies as best you can, and fight a delaying action at the gates until the target is destroyed or the cap ships are recharged enough to jump which ever comes last. Then withdraw.
I've fought for Fountain Alliance and Ascendant Frontier against BoB. Learn from our mistakes, or be doomed to repeat them. You wonĘt win against BoB by blobbing. You have to out think them, or put them in an undesirable position to win.

I have stayed out of COAD due to a self imposed black out as I can't stand what goes on there. But this post made me lol hard.
I hate armchair strategists so much . Always in the mothership threads on C&P punching the keys without thinking before they post their masterplan
