Hey, Ive got a 20 Mill SP Combat piliot but I'm thinking of creating a new character to make some ISK on the side without putting loads of hours in. I've read through the invention guides and get the basic concept of it but I would be greatfull if anyone could give me some extra tips, such as is there any particular race, item or skills to go for that would make it more efficient. Ive also noticied the skills Talocan Technology etc but I'm not sure how they would fit in to all this? Thanks

You need one of the "<race> Encryption Methods" skills, which will set you back quite a bit. --------- Currently offering high-sec POS standings service for 0.5 systems within the Gallente Federation. Evemail me for details. |

Well, for starters.....
Figure out what you would like to produce first. Are you looking to make modules or ships? Which module or ships, etc?
Then look up the blueprint for the t1 variant of the item you wish to invent.
For example, if you want to invent Invulnerability Field II's look at the t1 blueprint. Looking on the invention tab will tell you which interface you need to create the item. For the t2 invul you would need an esoteric data interface as well as hydromagnetic datacores and quantum datacores.
Now, you will need the racial encryption skillbook (esoteric=caldari, incognito=gallente, cryptic=minmatar and occult=amarr) you will also need the respective science skill for each datacore. So for the invul, you'd want to have hydromagnetic physics trained and quantum physics trained. Keep in mind that the higher you have your encryption skill and respective science skills trained the better chance of a successful invention.
So, you got your interface and skills.....now what?
You will need a bpc copy of the t1 item you wish to invent, higher runs seem to work best. You will also need the actual t1 item. If you use a higher meta level item you will have better success. So a named invul will work better than a regular invul. You also need a decryptor which will do different things. Some increase how many runs you'll get (with less chance of success) or some will increase the PE or ME of the print. Take a look on the market for each one - they are listed under Prototypes and Datafiles on market.
Put it all together and hopefully you end up with a multi-run bpc of the t2 item.
Invention can be fun and frustrating at the same time but with some work and training you'll do well.
Send me mail ingame if you need any assistance.
