Well its been a very long time since i made a post on eve-o so here goes.
I would like all aliances to think about maybe reverting back to some old school politics. "What do you mean" I hear you say.
Well let me try and make it understandable.
Lets say we have 3 Alliances. A1 A2 and A3
A1 is blue with both A2 and A3
But A2 is Red with A3
There for the oldschool way would be that A1 would remain neutral in this kind of situation and not help either side.
Thats the old way.
These days you see a situation where A1 is forced to choose to make A2 or A3 Red??
All i ask that alliances maybe think about there own standings, and not to care about other alliances. If its not your alliance there standings ARE NONE OF YOUR CONCERN. Changing you standings to benifit another alliance only makes you a slave to that alliance.
In an Ideal world A1 should have sat back and see who lived. You may watch a friend die but atlease you know you have a stronger friend closer.

The politics in this game are not simple.
The game evolves in size and so is the number of alliances around.

Last time I checked alliances have to fight to keep or take a territory.
Where your alliance ends up gives u choices.
Making things simple is not always possible.

Well, I think the diffrence here is NAP vs. full alliance policy.
Can't one be napped with 2 opposing forces anymore, is that what you're saying ? (sorry no expert on alliance politics here)

Yes, same sorta thing but remember your blue with both to start with. There just fighting eachother 20+ jumps from you. for EG

Well, if both of them insist you need to choose sides, then its trouble, if only one of them insists you cant be neutral, then thats the party you wanna shoot, as they sure dont respect your own sovereignity (sp?)

ahhh another argument to consider. You could keep arguing to stay out of it "Your space your problem" but if you feel upto it make em both red and take there space when you done with them.

If they are both your friends, why would you let them duke it out in the first place? Are you too weak to get them to see things your way?
Can you not forge an alliance with them or make them find a common ground to work from? If so, let em duke it out and filter out the weak, then take on whatever comes next with a strong ally by your side. If you do not tend to your own before being concerned with the health of some other alliance you will undoubtably screw up your own.
You should know this A**rr, being a family and all 
Ask ASCN how it turned out to never pick a side. Turned out great didn't it?

I think it depends on why both sides are being blue to you. If you call them friends, and if they really are, they are not gonna ask you to set anyone to red just like that. And they wont hazzle with you staying neutral in this matter.
But if on the other hand you were forced to be on blue it is quite possible that you may be forced to be on red to someone else too.
It often happens, that you cannot just do what you want - pick a side or stay neutral? Even major alliances have to make compromises. Sometimes the enemy's enemy is your friend.
Of course there are corps and alliances being named for never ever making their own decissions too. But they do not have real friends i think. They have bosses and colleagues.

OP is just mad he didn't have a damn clue how to play the politics in the area they're in. Idealism is great, until you hit an actual situation. Then if you don't have the tact or the brawn to bail yourself out, you don't have a place complaining about it.

Kidding aside, as you stated an alliance is created to enhance one self. I am sure, that if that alliance like the other just the same, they will stay out of it. This is a very very rare occation. Most of the time, a leader will weight facts at hand: Why are they dishing it out, what would be the end result, could this affect me(us), which one do I like, and whom have I just made blue to avoid confrontation...

Hmm, I read the post and can only assume this is in reference to current day events.
What I simply cannot decifer from your post is this, whether you post is aimed at the 'bandwagon against bob' or 'bob pets'.
Since you have not stated which you would rather prefer stayed out of the conflict, to ultimately allow the other to die.
