Hello 2015, is that you?
* technically I think the wiki was offlined in 2016, but it hadn't been maintained properly for quite a long time before that. |

Yeah, it's a shame CCP did that. I created a thread with a link allowing access to Evelopedia after CCP discontinued it.
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=472997&find=unread
Evelopedia via The Wayback Machine
To access Evelopedia link, right click and select 'Open In New Tab'
(Note : 'The Wayback Machine' is used to access info previously contained in Evelopedia. After Evelopedia opens, continue doing the 'Right Click / Open In New Tab' to access links within Evelopedia. Links to external sites such as Eve Survival, Eve Files, etc can be accessed with URL copy and paste.)

Not having an official source of documentation for the game is a mistake.
But CCP is literally not competent enough to make one so they stopped trying. |

This is probably an appropriate thread to share some information .. Eve University is looking for wiki editorial staff after CCP dumped the responsibility on them.

Just like evelopedia, anyone can edit the Uniwiki. I've always felt that both of them complimented each other well. Now that Evelopedia is gone, certain parts of the Uniwiki look very dated and exposed. The shoe is on the other foot now.
This is endgame exploration if you can help maintain the wiki.

I agree, especially since they got a lot of their info from Evelopedia in the first place. Not to mention just like Evelopedia, CCP isn't updating them on current changes being made to the game. By the time players find out about those changes and update the wiki, new changes are added to the game thus making Uniwiki become more outdated.

Crying shame that a game as info-intensive as Eve doesn't have an official source for up to date information. This game is a lot about who shaves hairs or weighs smoke better to get the competitive edge, after all. If it were me (and it's not of course), I'd create something like ISD or Mercury crew of player volunteers to continually manage and update a game documentation site. And freely throw PLEXes, ships, skins, AUR, officer mods, whatever around to the dedicated ones. We're just odd enough that some of us would enjoy being master librarians/archivists/information sorters.

The players can do it better anyway. The forum should be next on the chopping block imo. That begs the question where would we communicate, then? Uh gee I don't know

There used to be a long sticky thread here in GD calling for volunteers to join. Unfortunately, the application process was so long winded that it was no surprise that team sort of died; and several people I know of that applied just never heard back at all.
I wish the official wiki would return. Unfortunately, while wikis thrive in an open, crowd-sourced environment, CCPs approach was much too closed for it to really work. |

Nothing makes me feel worse about being an Eve Online player than reading r/eve.
I don't think you're wrong, I'd also assume the Eve Forums are the next thing to get the Evelopedia treatment.
The players do what better?

Ok how do I do that, because I've already found some articles that need to be updated. My main was in Euni for a while.

I don't think you're wrong, I'd also assume the Eve Forums are the next thing to get the Evelopedia treatment. The players do what better? There's a sort of rule that says whatever game mechanics you create, your players will deconstruct it and overcome them. Along those lines, I think players can also be expected to figure out the best way to do things. I think this includes informing other players of your game mechanics.
Crowdsourcing.
When you have a large pool of people who are interested in your game, or your product, they will want to communicate. You can provide a free forum because it's something everyone else does, or you can make room for players to come up with something for their own purposes. I think the e-uni wiki is a great example of this.
So I guess in defense of CCP you could interpret the lack of an official wiki as a smart move. It saves time and money for the company but also makes room for players to take ownership of something related to the game.
r/eve
Forums.eveonline isn't just secluded from the rest of the internet. It's also crippled by the politics of the game. EVE-O is multipartisan and will never compare to the cohesiveness of forums of different player groups.
Depending on your affiliation you will probably dislike one of the few major sites that come to mind. But they're all incredibly successful from a neutral standpoint and they're more great examples of players doing it better.
I guess it's harsh to say EVE-O could be killed off. At a bare minimum I think it could serve as an announcement platform and maybe recruitment center for new players.

There is clearly a place for corporation and alliance forums. Clearly a place for /r/Eve and subreddits (though I find the main /r/eve is disorganised) but the reason for keeping these forums is it is a place which seems to have a better selection of subforums where a wide range of players post (and lurk).

You know I was just listening to that song the other day. It's the weirdest thing but it made me think of something I saw on the updates site http://updates.eveonline.com/
That graphic update in particular, it's a few scroll wheels down the page. It seems like the godrays are new in DX11 but they're actually not. The thing is, asteroid fields have had that 3D capability in EVE for quite some time but they acted like it was something we needed to upgrade for.
But I know for a fact that you simply needed to be within range to execute this function.
