Guys what awesome responses you all gave. The OP, for me, is an explanation too, as to what makes EVE so increddibly interesting to me.
You see, I study social sciences, so I blame that for my OP haha. And i notice the discussion, like Missy pointed out, has gone in circles. I do reckon that this is due to some kind of confusion, perhaps indeed about the word 'just', but also perhaps because what my OP says is quite abstract. Many people who are against the OP focuss on objects, while like i said before, objects, are not my focus for any of my points, they are merely a result of something, rather than the basis of the point i'm trying to make. When you stop thinking about the objects, you'll perhaps get a better idea as to what i meant.
for those who appreciated the post, thank you allot for commenting on it, I feel even better about EVE-online, haha, to know that such people fly amongst us in this virtual world :P.

Then you would know a little about theories of alienation, and perhaps even a few of the post-modern ideas of the hyper-real and what not, and understand even why I think the whole phenomenon of people attaching value to eve's chimeras as anything more than game symbols are deeply unhealthy.
Eve is just a game. When I rock up in my pilgrim and tear your beloved hulk to shreds, understand that on a very fundamental level It doesnt matter, because its just a game.
Imagine if eve WAS real. What a horrifying nightmare it would be. BUT THERES GOOD NEWS! Its just a game. Its OK to go blowing everyone up, engage in genocidal expansionism, scam corporate floats, and so on, because ITS NOT REAL.
Whats in front of your hands. Thats real. The social relations around you. Thats real. Your corporeality and its relation to stuff. Thats real.
An exploding Titan model created in Lightwave 3D, and rendered in OpenGL? Not real. No need to cry. Theres a cute little ibis waiting for you in your internet space base. It even comes with a space trit!
So what if it's not "real"? Neither is a basketball in a philosophical sense. Neither are these words I am typing. But philosophy is total rubbish. I went through my phase of "questioning reality" etc. But I decided that Descartes had it right in the first place - "I think, therefore I am."
But I would like to segue into the other aspect of virtual worlds and "e-honor" which people like goons and BE hold in disdain.
I tried having a conversation in local with a Goon in a cloaked frigate who was at a safespot (I assumed). Throughtout the whole convo, there was a very intense undercurrent of disdain he had for anyone who took the game seriously. Things he said like "internet spaceships and the internet galaxy" etc. You get my drift.
I just do not understand why you play the game then. What if you played Football......I am sure you would go far with that kind of attitude. With that same attitude, why live "sense we are gonna die anyways"?
I guess my point would be this on the OT: Life is what you make out of it or want from it, not a pre-defined set of perimeters set by "the average human life". What difference does it make wether I watch football or basketball on TV with no way of determining the outcome whatsoever and still having a good time or I play EVE online where I do determine the outcome of the game. So much for who has a "life"
