My prayers go out to all the families involved and to those departed.
Two people where shot before 2 hours then the gunman went and shot more correct? I do not know anyone involved but most shooting cases involve people who are or where intimate. The first two shot was a male and female. It could be possible thats where the answer lies.

I just don't understand, wasn't there a bunch of warning signs and how come no one intervened?
I really thing they need to put a lot more social workers in schools to try and prevent these type of things from happening.
Even if 1/10 of these disasters can be prevented it would save lives.
I didn't really think much of it when I saw it on the news, I see people dying on the news all the time
But when I started to think about it, it sadly shows times are changing, this kind of stuff didn't happen 50 years ago.
My heart goes out to the family and all affected.

Actually things like this did happen back then too. Just take the 1966 Texas shootings, which was the most fatal incident up until now.
Condoleances to those involved.

I hate to say it but there's absolutely no way to seperate things like this from politics.
I don't mean party politics, but real politics, the stuff that affects all our lives every day.
My feeling is that this is yet another tragedy caused by a system that breaks people - I feel incredibly bad for all those who've suffered in any way as a result of this horrible, horrible incident.
But, and this is really important to me, I also feel massively sorry for the guy who did it - he was clearly so badly damaged and had nowhere he felt he could turn to to deal with the turmoil in his head, that when it finally all burst out the result was awful.
I'd love to say I hope nothing like this ever happens again but I know it will, I know the world breaks people and I know that the true mark of a civilised society is how it treats and helps its most vulnerable, damaged, ill and lost members and that's a score that a lot of the world fails at miserably.
Heartfelt sympathies to anyone affected by this, directly or indirectly.

Ok, you are totally wrong. Firstly, were you around 50 years ago to account for whether or not this happened? Secondly, there have always been school shootings, and there always will be. This isn't an American issue and this isn't a new development. Here.

About 80-90% of those school shootings are american schools so it kinda is a mostly american problem.
Edit: just thought i'd cover my ass and say that I don't mean an american problem as in its the Americans themselves, I mean a more poltical thing which im not going to say as that equals locky. --------

I really thing they need to put a lot more social workers in schools to try and prevent these type of things from happening.
Unfortunately those "signs" that the news media keep toting around match about 1/3 of the college population. Remember, if the news can't explain something they will endeavor to find someone to justify the reasons whether they have proof or not. Heck playing this "violent" game puts you in one of the categories of the shooter.
Putting social workers wouldn't have helped here either. Social workers are there to help people with physical problems that want to be helped and more often than not are forced to attend (its not a fun job trust me).
Sadly there really isn't much that can be done for instances like these. College campuses are open and free areas and are like that for a reason. Additionally the population is often located in large groups within and enclosed area. This makes them vulnerable to violent incursions though even with covert and overt police forces. If this guy had walked in there with a Aragon Elf sword and a can of silly string he would have been able to match the casualty list since there is nowhere to run except for the windows.
Having worked with one (houston) I can tell you that there are many instances of such incursions which are cut off ahead of time yet a few make it through. Most are low key stuff, domestic disputes, suicides, drug OD's, broken bones, knifings, and one major ****** distribution ring. Just like swimming at the beach (1 in 3 chance that a shark is 10ft from you) though most people would freeze in panic if they knew about the bad stuff going on so its kept low key unless police believe it to be ongoing. In this case they misjudged the man/woman incident to be isolated (unsure if it was suicide, murder+suicide, or double murder at first) causing the 2hr delay.
To sum it up, unless you want prison style colleges and universities there isn't much you can do to prevent a massacre like this. All it takes is one person gone crazy and a will to destroy to cause another incident even with extra security. The fault still lies wholly with the shooter and why he decided to step over the line from anger to murder. And that is a major line to cross even for an angry person.

im sure iv heard that a Judge said he was a danger to himself and others and should spend some time in a mental ward or somethint, is that still 1/3 of the uni population?

Calm down man, there's nobody making fun or flaming here - there's some reasonable debate and some interesting discussion.
Just because it's the EVE forums doesn't automatically make every thread a flame-war (just most of them).

It was a local magistrate which is something like a justice of the peace (elvis weddings) and small claims court judge (Judge Judy) who ordered him to see a psychologist. This is due to the stalking charges brought against him. Stalking charges are waaaaay too common these days. Essentially if you think you're being persistant, if you make passes at a female more than once, if you attempt to send love letters too often you can be listed as a stalker. Your school record will then be amended permanently, you will be interviewed, and so will your professors. Be wary guys still in college.
Cho, who was accused of sending inappropriate text messages to two female students
The campus psych claimed he was a danger to himself but the danger was minor that nothing binding was set. Voluntary outpatient treatment was given aka "visits to the campus shrink". He was also deemed "not a danger to others" very specifically. The majority of cases where you see this language points to admitting suicide contemplation to a psychologist or that he/she believes that you are suicidal and wont admit it.
a call from an acquaintance of ChoÆs, who was concerned that he might be suicidal, Flinchum said. Police obtained a temporary detention order from a local magistrate, and in December of that year, Cho was briefly admitted to Carilion St. Albans Behavioral Health Center in Radford.
Remember though, this is a university and sadly suicidal thoughts from students burning out is VERY common. Most do not cross that line although I have personally seen two suicide related corpses removed during my time with UHPD. Luckily campuses are usually well equiped and prepared for intervention measures due to the constant need. I imagine some of you current students have had orientations that specifically mentioned suicide hotlines, campus shrinks, etc etc but really never noticed the proliferation.
Other than the self inflicting injury speculation there really were no other flags that would make him out to be a mass murderer. His loner character put him under the rader and made him out to seem like every other Emo kid on campus. His violent poetry? Who has listened to Drowning Pool's- Let the bodies hit the floor? He kept his emotions bottled up until he popped his top with the help of a Glock.
Working with any type of law enforcement or security opens your eyes to the fact that while you can catch alot of the bad stuff out there, it is impossible to stop it all. This guy justed slipped through the crracks.
