I am experiencing some choppyness when facing places with lots of structures, like pirate zones and what not, not areas with other players and only a few npcs. But there don't seem to be a lot of options on the graphics menu to optimize the video. Does anyone know if there's any other way to change the video options to make the performance smoother?
Thanks.

For one thing, you can lower the resolution or change the colour settings. That should help, as it sounds like you're on an older, underpowered box/video card.

Tamllo, I agree with you on the optimizing part, so what it all comes down to is how you can do it without getting fancy setup options. As it's been suggested already, lower the resolution. Trying the game in windowed and fullscreen mode would probably also result in different performance. Shutting down a zillion programs running in the background would also help. You wont get astounding performance if you have the problem already, but you should be able to affect it somewhat.

You may also have poor/bad drivers for your hardware within windows.
If you havent updated your drivers in the last 6 months, upgrade the video cards drivers and also the motherboards drivers.
Ive seen trippling of performance by doing this.
Also run a defrag on the HDD (leave that one running overnight if you cant remember doing it in the last 6 months)

Some other helpful hints:
Turn off "Sun is occluded by ships" and "show trails"
Don't log chat to file.
Play in Widescreen.
Turn on LOD.
Turn off Multisample (Anti-aliasing).

Also, switch the chat windows (all windows) to non-transparent (opaque to max), it helps a bit too. -- V.H. |
