I think this is very sad.
Incorrect, CCP bowed to their original intentions of the wardec system and pirating. MMO's change over time and need respective changes by the developers to maintain balance. Pirates were and are never supposed to be able to operate freely in high sec, privateers found a way around this intention. Theres a reason there are sec hits for pirating, theres a reason for concord, and a reason for gate and station defenses.
Privateers exploited the flaws in the wardec system. Something which had grown over time from a working and intended enforcement of what CCP INTENDED EMPIRE TO BE to a flaw, since you mentioned flaws.

Like all MMO's the design of the tools they provide us with are vulnerable to exploit, those very tools are not only for us to use, but more often than not to ensure the intentions of the game stay in tact as well. Since MMO's are always changing because of variations in subscribers, game money, whatever...sometimes these tools need to be changed respectively to account for them.

And yet you and many dont seem to understand that maybe...just maybe that the wardec system, that a significant amount of the game is high sec, that gate/station defenses and concord exist for a reason. Instead you turn a blind eye to reason and convince yourselves that its about carebears, rather than admit that you were simply exploiting a tool that hadn't yet changed over the years to account for changes in the game.
As i understand them...and apparently ccp agrees
-wardecs are supposed to be temporary breeches of the safety of empire.
-players are supposed to take sec hits for killing non war targets in empire.
-gate guns are supposed to attack players that attack other players in their sight.
-concord is supposed to blow you to pieces if you attack players in high sec.
These were the intentions of the game since day 1. Somewhere along the line the possibility was realized that if enough people banded together they could bypass these intentions and enforcers of those intentions. CCP corrected it and now you point the finger at whiners and the like rather than take a rational look at how and why the game was designed the way it was.
Even you have realized this game (like all games) has flaws, unfortunately you cant seem to see that the wardec system was flawed as well and was reinforced to act as they had intended it to be. That is too expensive to dec tens of ALLIANCES, dozens of corps, indefinately.
And im sure it was fun, even though close to half of privateer kills were haulers. i like to pirate as well, it might not have a gun but its a rush for some reason killing a ship that cant hurt you while tanking gate guns hoping someone doesnt come in and pop you or steal the loot.
Maybe the problem here is you think the wardec system was originally designed to forever be perfect and that it was originally intended for an alliance to be capable of permanently wardeccing 30%+ of the playerbase, thus removing all the NPC defense content that is of empire from those players. If you think the way your alliance used the tool that is war declaration as CCP intended YEARS AGO...well maybe have a deeper look at things. Maybe then you'll realize they didnt change it because of QQ, it was changed because it was no longer working as ORIGINALLY INTENDED.
