Question is as stated in the subject. I'm a Gallente looking forward to upgrading to a Moa fairly soon, but I just curious if there are any disadvantages other than time. Also, does the special ability that each ship have only apply to races of the same faction, or is it for anyone who pilots it?

There are no penalties for flying ships from other races
as long as you have the skills all bonus' are applied as they would be to any other pilot

You can fly any race's ships without penalty, provided that you have applicable skills. Also, ship bonuses depend only on your level in the relevant skill (for the Moa, Caldari Cruiser), not on your race or any other skill.

Other Gallente pilots will call you names and snub you at parties. Other than that thereÆs no penalty at all. Train and fly what you like.

Seriously though, no penalties. Train whatever you feel light, I have all race Frigates and Destroyers, T2 + T1, and its great  .

The primary strength of the Gallenteans is their drones. Drones are your friend, as I have learned the hard way before.
I'll tell you the story. I stole loot from some guy because I thought he was offline. That was a big mistake.
The guy arrives in an Ishkur (the assualt frig), and I'm sitting in my Cormorant, attacking a Gurista cruiser. The Ishkur lets loose its drones, and I'm pod-killed and my ship is gone in..less than 30 seconds.
And I'm pretty sure those were 5 light scout drones.
Maybe it was my blaster setup with two shield resistance amps and a shield booster.
Or maybe it was the drones.
Reconsider your race switch before you act.
