I guess CCP thought of this before you guys did. There is an official Adoptions channel. You can find it under the Help category. Would be nice to get some newbies in there though, since there is mostly a crowd of older players just waiting for a promising newbie.
Also, we get the "What is this channel for?" question all the time.

Sorry, when I saw the title of this thread I immediately thought of those adverts we get here in the UK that ask us to donate ú2 a month for charity.
I've just been having mental images of camera close-ups of noobs with upset and/or distressed faces and a serious voice over saying something like;
"All over the world, noobs are trying to survive and make a living against a harsh environment. Your money can make a difference. Just 2 ISK a month will give your adopted noob clean drinking water, an Ibis and a basic mining laser. Donate now and adopt a noob. Just 2 ISK a month!!!"

Edited by: Ralara on 20/04/2007 10:18:03 I like to help new characters. Sometimes I message / convo people who have posted in the help and questions forum - if they're online I offer help, if they aren't I move on to the next one. I also sometimes hang out in the help channel giving mostly correct advice . It's fun. Plus when they ask a question I don't know the answer to, I learn something as well ;)
I got burned once though. After helping a newbie for several weeks into the game, after all his hard work (he was a good player and listened and was doing well) I bought him a Raven as a reward (and it was a surprise).
He took it, closed the convo and blocked me.
I'm a corp thief. And remember, I only do it because I like your robot.
Nice Isk. I'll take it. |

Dam that sux about the noob taking advantage of your generosity .
Did you pod him ? Cos personally if someone did that to me after I helped out soo much I would chase him down till the end of the EVE Universe and pod / grief him repeatedly (I am a nice guy but I show no mercy at all to backstabbers / Traitors.)

Look around in the New player questions forum for some noobs, and email them in game and adopt them.
You don't necessarily have to pull them into your corp - just help them with some advice in game.

I've filled my quota. Luckily he stopped messaging me after a few days...man, sometimes they need to figure stuff out for themselvse...fittings are one thing, but basic mechanics are another thing entirely...

The more people have a positive experience in the beginning, the easier it will be to laugh off the inevitable negative ones. I've seen cans hanging outside noob stations with "Free Stuff" in them and someone waiting to gank the poor guy (how low can you get, seriously?).
It'd be nice to see the opposite.
I got myself 7 million in loot from such a free can 20 km from a jump gate - maybe it was REALLY free.
OMG that sig ^^ up there is classic
there girl that got screwed over the raven, hope you podded the prik
thats how i made all my isk the first weeks of eve. took me forever to figure out why they could shoot me and not vice versa. boy were those the days.
i try to help as many people that want the help. the thank you replies does get me all warm inside. Have turned a few into corp mates but never tried to get them. Was all on their end cause we're so cool and helpful they always say. I love noobs, just don't forget to water once a day.

I like helping newbies too, so I even made a special alt for nothing else but just sitting in my old noobcorp's chat (FNA) every now and then and helping people with any questions they might have.

What was this guy's name? A lot of my friends tell me I'm too being way too nice in EVE, but that's one person I wouldn't mind ganking over and over!

You don't have to "Adopt" them - it really is just easier to tell them to apply to Eve University. in the Eve University public channel. :D ___________________________________
