I'll make one, if people can fill in the blanks:
CPR: Capacitor Power Relay ECM: Electronic Counter Measures EW: Electronic Warfare MAPC: Micro Auxiliary Power Core MFS: ??? PDU: Power Diagnostic System SAR: ???
If you think of any others, please mention them. I would have found this super useful when I was a new noob. For new people reading those ship setups, the abbreviations can get confusing.

Edited by: Atius Tirawa on 12/05/2007 06:16:47 In EvE BS is Battleship, but I call them BBs because thats the abbriviation for battleships in the real world. I propose you change BS to BB even if BB is used for BlackBird.
Its more proper and it is not an abriviation for a rude term.
Also,
SB is sensor booster, not stealth bomber. The latter are not flown enough to merit an abbriviation.

SB can stand for smartbomb, sensorbooster or stealthbomber

There are only two carriers for each race, yes, but one requires racial carrier I and the other racial carrier III. The level of the skill generally determines the tier - there are no tier 2 carriers atm. -- I like cheese. |

The tiers are essentially the meta level of the item. Not the skill that they require.

BB makes no sence. Besides, it's pointles to try and change an abbrevation that already exists.

MLU = Mining Laser Upgrade
BB/BS: Psh, who cares, we're not playing a naval sim. BS developed in the context of Eve, and has little connection to naval designations. I'm not flaming (intentionally) but as Gadawan mentioned, eeeeveryone uses BS as battleship acronym, for good reason, and it's not going to change. This is a guide to understanding Eve lingo, not to promulgating the correct usage of such terms. I know where you're coming from, but things are a bit confusing as is. Leave it be i say Besides, BB = Blackbird, nuf said.
I've heard HIC, HACtors, and Hictors used to refer to Heavy Interdictors. We'll settle on a single acronym sooner or later i spose.

I think he is trying to tell people that BB means Battleship in the real world, and since every other ship uses Navy abbriviation - the battleships should too.

Not abbreviations but common terms.
Cap - capital ships, dread(naught)s, carriers
Super caps - Motherships and Titans
Hot drop - the act of dropping capitals or supercaps on a target, generally one without capital support of its own. Similar to blobbing and ganking.
Blob/Blobbing - similar to gank, essentially the act of overwhelming the target with huge numbers.
Sentries - sentry guns place on gates and stations
Scram(med) - warp scrambler. Also, being warp scrambled.
Jammer - ECM modules that break the target ships lock. Also a ship specialising in ECM
Spider or Spider Tanking - A tactic used whereby ships use remote armour or shield reps/transfers to keep each other alive.
Podded - being podkilled.
Ransom - an act performed in PvP whereby one pilot agrees to pay the other a set amount of ISK to allow his/her ship or pod to escape. Can be initiated by either party.
Lofty - scam using war target mechanics to gank mission runners. Named for the pilot who made it (in)famous
Rat - an NPC
Pirate -
Carebear - A character who generally avoids PvP and pursues industry or mission running, etc.
Outlaw - a character who has reached a security status of -5.0 or lower. This character can now be fired upon on site anywhere in the game without fear on CONCORD or sentry gun intervention.
NBSI - Not Blue Shoot It. Policy used by space holding entities meaning if you are not set blue to them, you'll be fired on.
NRDS - Not Red Don't Shoot. Sort of self explanitory and the opposite of NBSI. ______

a can is just that, a can in space Long lasting ones like GSC's (giant secure containers) that you need to "anchor" and will remain in space, and jettison containers that only lasts for a short while and contains stuff you just jettisoned from your ships cargo hold
can flipping is getting someone to flag for pvp for you, by tricking them into taking stuff from a container you just jettisoned, or similar.
Kiting is flying away from an enemy, while making it follow you. Generally to get an advantage in battle

CDFP?
Also, "leroying" is now a word, as in: "He leroyed the gate campers." (Also spelled "leeroy.")
Search "Leroy Jenkins" on YouTube if you have any questions. ____________________________________

Core Defence Field Purger, the shield recharge rig.
Buffer Tank, while not an acronym, refers to surviving a fight by having enough hitpoints such that the fight is over before the enemy chews through them all, as opposed to trying to repairing the damage such that (ideally) you end the fight at somewhere near full armor/shield. __________________________________

What does IPO mean?
After searching for a while I found out that it's about stock exchange, a RL term meaning Initial public offering.
Didn't see it on the list here, but found a lot of discussions about it.
I found a summary of the process in an article on eve-mag.com (apart from the "gigantic scam" summary) Please inform me if I'm correct:
"An IPO is when we purchase shares in another corporation, and then at regular intervals get paid dividends depending on how the company is doing."

Its more proper and it is not an abriviation for a rude term.
Also,
SB is sensor booster, not stealth bomber. The latter are not flown enough to merit an abbriviation.
I propose you ignore this. Amusing though that one so worked up about an abbreviation can't even spell the word.
