This is related to the "mission loot sucks" thread that was posted in this forum. Personally, I've gone back and forth with looting Level 4's. In general, I think the mission loot is probably not worth it, but I always wonder if the chance of hitting that big faction loot payday is worth all the Miner 1's I find. Lately I've been looting just the BS wrecks with a dedicated salvage ship, but I'm thinking of even dropping that. Currently, I can only get in about 2 missions per night, and I'm wondering if dropping the loot stage would give me time for another (I always forget to time it).
So, the questions for you dedicated mission runners (those running for ISK, not for LP) is: do you loot or not?

I loot the missions with a dedicated loot/salvage ship.
I find myself only salvaging the wrecks that have loot in them. The only exception is I tend to salvage empty battleship wrecks since they usually have a decent amount of parts on them.
98.9% of the loot I actually do recover is crap though and ends up getting melted down. I don't ever mine, so that is where I get most all of my minerals from. |

Yes, ofcourse. I loot and salvage the BS wrecks and salvage the BC wrecks that also have loot, the BC wrecks that have no loot and the lower class ships i just ignore. All this while i shoot so it's pretty much done during the mission and not after it. *snip* - Image not appropriate for eve-o forums - hutch

As a rule I only loot/salvage battleships in a dedicated nanoed-up MWD packing Brutix. The smaller stuff within tractor range also gets sucked up unless it's Guristas or Serpentis. This lets me finish post-mish cleanup for even the largest missions in under 10 minutes, including travel time.
I've found this approach gets me the lion's share of loot and salvage for the minimum effort.

I usually get another corp member to clean up after me, or hop in a destroyer packing 4 salvagers, 4 tractors, MWD, 3 Salvage rigs and plenty of cap goodies, cleans up wrecks and loot in no time.

I only loot the missions directly within my hub-system or max. 1 jump out and only if the mission is worthwhile looting (attack of the drohnes, pirate slaughter e.g.).
A lot of mission are going "untouched" due to the fact that i could easily run another one within the looting/salvaging time frame... --

I just look on WSDB to see what missions are worth to be salvaged and i bother only with those. I run missions 75% against sansha so i know from the start that the loot sucks. The salvage on the other hand doubles my profit.

The loot you get also seems to be factional dependent. Neither lvl4's vs Angels or Serp are really worth looting, but with angels most wrecks even of battleships will have 1mn abs or 100 Large rounds, while Serp drop large equipment much more frequently. I still loot them all anyway cause I can't resist, I'm such a loot *****.
Maybe this one has named equip! 100 Large Iron... Maybe this one has! 1mn ab.... Maybe this one has!... and so on. ________________________________________ <("<) <('')> (>")>

Mission running itself is boring enough, let alone coming back in a looter/salvager to clean the mess up. If there's a corpmember online and around that can't fly L4s solo yet or has nothing better to do at the moment, I tell them of the "wreck field", they can loot/salvage it if they like to. And even then, we usually prefer to take a new mission instead. Other than that, I personally stopped looting/salvaging months ago. I only care now about standings, not ISK. It's a boring, boring waste of time, even if the occasional salvage/loot might be worth it. _ MySkills | Module/Rig stacknerfing explained |

I loot and salvage all. What I use is a destroyer, nice ammount of highs, cheap, can get like 500-600m3 on it iirc, fast and agile, can fit multiple tractor beams and salvagers.
But you have to be smart about it, some missions are simply not really worth it. One L4 I got a few times had like 50 frigate sized drones and 3 BSs which were a pain to kill n loot, did it once, never again. They all drop very small ammounts of alloys, and the alloys they do drop are not expensive, you're afaik 100% sure they wont drop actual gear, and the salvage isn't great on smaller wrecks as far as I know.
Apart from that, you gotto be able to make looting efficient. When I warp in I ususally have 1 jetcan centered, a bookmark at the can, and start with tractoring in 3 cans, then another 3, untill there's nothing within 20km range. I then make a quick plan so I don't loot a can 40km east, then one 50km west, and then go back to pickup another east. I either grab a few cans and tractor em back to the can or process em right there. If im full I just AB back to the can and drop off stuff.
Apart from that, you gotto watch for scrap metal, it gains ya like litterly 500isk, and takes loads of cargospace. And you also wanna ignore crap loot, and go for nicely named gear, you gotto ignore the ammo, survey scanners, and alot of other junk.
Lastly, stock your loot untill you get a load, put it in an indy and go sell it at places like jita, motsu or torrinos, places where there's alot of demand and alot of trading going on for good prices.

Hardly ever loot missions anymore. I dont think the odd good bit of loot is worth more than doing a new mission.

I have an alt in an idustrial with tractors ATM, and I follow my combat ship, collecting all loot. Since I do it at the same time it adds very little the the amount of time it takes to complete a mission. Personally I find it worthwhile - often there will be a piece or three of good, sellable loot, but even if there is none the minerals I get from melting the crap stuff is well worth it. Tends to add a few mil to each mission.
Salvaging is a whole other deal which I have not explored yet.

I loot all level 4's. Even if theyre 3 jumps out. I use an alt in an indy which follows me around and I myself sit in a destroyer with 5salvagers 3tractors. It is time consuming, but I figure its worth it to cure my lootwhoring issues.

I salvage all missions, and as by salvaging I tractor all the cans to me anyway, I lot them as well.
it helps of course to have a fast ship for salvaging. Since nano's got nerved, my nanosigil got replaced by a heretic:
4 salvager, 4 tractors AB II, cap rechargers *2 Nanofibers...
Advantage: very fast locking time, and it goes fast even in a deadspace. A destroyer is simply slow by comparison. 1km/s helps with that last can 140 km's away,

I loot them. I made 20Mish off of Assault from the bounties, and another 20Mish from the modules/salvage. Took less time to loot/salvage than it did to clear it, for sure. I use a Coercer (Amarr destroyer) to loot, with 4 tractors, 4 salvagers, an AB(which rarely gets used) and 4 CPRs (so I can run all 8 HIs at once).
It can't possibly hold all the modules from a L4, which regularly yields me over 1000 m3. I jettison the first modules I get right away, lock the can, and tractor it. Then I fly through the wreck field, tractoring the wrecks in, dragging the modules straight to the jetcan, and point a salvager or two at it. I don't want to outrun the tractors anyway so I don't need to move that fast. If I get a large gap between cans I turn on the AB, but typically I just start at one end (setting the bookmark when I'm doing the mission) and fly to the other. Bookmark the jetcan before moving to the next pocket and repeat for the other pockets.
Then I grab my Bestower (Amarr industrial) and warp to each jetcan and scoop up the loot, which is as much as 3000 m3 sometimes. With that much volume to grab, it doesn't really matter what ship I use to salvage, I'm going to need to make 2 trips. If I have to make 2 trips, then it's simpler to just use the industrial for the second run.
Anyway, I don't find looting the L4's to be that big of a hassle.

I'm the guy who fits a tractor and a salvager to his mission ship, because I just don't feel like fitting a loot/salvage ship...when the last room is clear, I just wanna go home. I have occasionally gotten nice loot from missions. I make roughly 20m every time I do L3 Angel Extravaganza. I'm also in love with L4 Massive Attack. :p

If you do the math, you will see that looting/salvaging is worthwhile if you dont get much LP, or your agent dont offer much good for the LP you get.
I have done missions for Sansha, and I got up to 14k lp/mission. And the LP offers where also very good, resulting in about 3k isk/lp.
This means that a mission that gives 14k lp and another 5m in rewards pays about 50mil/mission. And with that reward, the focus is to do as many mission as possible. Looting/salvaging simply isnt worth it.

i use a cormorant fitted with 4 tractors, 4 salvagers, sensor booster, AB II, 2 cap rechargers.
I usually do it after the mission, although if the mission is a long one i'll do it between levels with an alt. (otherise the wreaks are in danger of going pop).
Loot is rubbish yes, however reprocess it and you get mins to make more ammo. The salvage is definately worth it atm.

Depends on mission and mood. As general rule of thumb I dont loot/salvage as I have good enough equipment and skills to do them effectively (loot/salavge takes more time than looting them). I currently have reactivated my alt tho so when next mission would not be considerably faster with second raven in there I send him to loot / salavge battleship wreks from previous mission - when I feel like it.
For solo missionrunner with good skills and equipment looting / salvaging is not worth the time. It's better isk/h running them.

It really depends on the mission.
I always loot and salvage sansha mishions as they have the best rig components.
I generally loot mercenary missions as they have the best loot. (I even farm some of the quickie Lv3s due to the loot drops).
On other lev4s I will maybe salvage/loot the BS/BS wrecks as it's not uncommon for reasonable salvage and large guns tend to go for 1mill each.
Only other ship types I generally go for looting is the serp Guardian Veterans which can drop nice stuff.

I loot and salvage L4s.
If I am shooting for the time bonus, then I bookmark the site and return with my salvaging ship.
If I don't care about the time bonus, then I bring in the salvager after I complete each level. Avoids having the wrecks pop.
Technique:
1. Use scanner view to plot out most efficient path.
2. Target several of the nearest wrecks in order of distance (closest first).
3. Head toward nearest until within tractor range.
4. Tractor nearest, then immediately head toward next closest.
5. When tractored wreck comes within range, loot and run salvagers.
6. Rinse and repeat.
Always try to keep moving and drag items with tractors when salvaging. Keep targeting and dragging.
I have not seen it mentioned before, but I have destroyed wrecks by going too fast while tractoring them -- "death drag". I think the threshhold is around 400m/s but I am not sure. Ever since I have stopped using a destroyer to salvage, I have not had this problem.

Loot and salvage here as well.
Sure, I usually only get 30-50 mill (not including salvage) out of a Badger full of loot, but it is better than nothing....especially when recent "reversals of fortune" knock me down to about 8 mill isk in the wallet.

I run with a tractor and a salvager on my mission ship. Whatever dies in reach gets looted/salvaged. Anything else stays where it falls. My rationale? Why come back in another ship just to loot when I can loot AND earn bounties at the same time by just starting another mission?

Its the one time I kind of regret flying a CNR. I can't both fit a tractor AND a salvager without wasting the ships bonus.
I lazily check BS wrecks but mostly just call out in local for anyone to salvage/loot at will. More isk to be made blowing stuff up and looting imho.

I loot/salvage the battleship wrecks only. It's also mission dependant as some missions drop very nice loot while others (I.E. extravaganzas) drop almost nothing. Although the salvage parts are nice and building rigs can be profitable.
