I used to play Eve a long time ago when it first came out, but I might as well be new to the game it has been so long. I am one of those few people who enjoys mining to an extent. I would like to use mining in conjunction with something else player related. Do I get into building? Trading? What other career paths work well with mining? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you

You can either do mining and something different from time to time to change your mind, like missionning. Or you can do different things industry-related, like planetary interaction (take time to figure out but after it's setup it's very little work for regular isk flow).
Or you can train for a stealth bomber and go rattting in belts in nullsec, or in providence in combat anoms. Or go cloaky in nullsec and lowsec to put some mobile siphon to steal moongoo from POSes. Or try to put yourself near a ice anomaly and go mine it when it's there.

I do not really understand how project discovery works. I watched the video but it is just to much for me to understand. Maybe at a later date I will get into it, but for right now it just looks like a game within a game.
I was thinking of something industry related or making stuff and selling it. |

I've said it before I'll say it again. Mining is easy. It doesn't have much else going for it. In order to do what you find fun, you typically have to try out more than one thing, so you can figure out what is actually fun. If you try out a bunch of other stuff and find mining fun awesome. Otherwise this might be a good place to start

I was trying to work out how belt ratting works in a bomber, but I couldn't really find much info. Could you please shed some light on the matter? What kind of fit would you use? Any specific flying tips? Also is there anything you have to look out for or can you just handle everything in there? Cheers! |

Well, you'll need first the right bomber for the right rats, depending on the type of torpedoes you'll need for them. After that, try finding some high bounties BS with preferably no frigates with them, or at least non-elite frigates. A target painter or misile guidance computers for more range are always a good module to have to kill faster or safer the rats. Except from that there's not much, just dont forget bombers arent that fast and cant cloak if you're targeted by rats. If you can find some rare rats, go for them and loot their wrecks, they have implants and good modules.

Go into manufacture. Perhaps train up all your ore refining skills and make your way up the tech ladder in regards to what you can manufacture. That will bring focus and purpose to your mining expeditions!

I would recommend violence. Vague, I know, but ideally something that brews up a skillset that will aid you eventually in defending your bits and pieces. Mission running or combat sites wouldn't be a bad choice, perhaps dabble in some low sec frigate pvp on the cheap. This would help give you a vastly different activity choice to engage in when you don't feel like mining, and will help you be ready for that eventuality of having to run, fight or die for the things you have. Some experience and a solid set of skills can make the run or fight outcomes more likely than the last one. Get scary!

A couple of years ago I had a small ice mining fleet in Everyshore. My characters also harvested the PI needed to make fuel blocks. Composition of fuel blocks has changed - but the demand has increased with the new structures - should still be a good business. I made a lot of ISK but eventually got bored and moved on to other activities.
At the time CODE was very active in the belts but I could park my Orca at a POS and mine with Skiffs - never had a problem. Those rules have also changed - booster now needs to be on-grid. |

this is VERY bad advice.
If you want to do pop, understand that eve is an "N+1" fleet game. In other words, N +1 ships will beat N ships. There is no "invincible pwnmobile" that you can fly around in as a solo pilot and be Very Dangerous to everyone with impunity. T3 cruisers, orthrus and Svipul used to be close to this ideal, and every now and then CCP will release another for the bucks it brings, but generally speaking Eve is N+1 and violence is gang violence.
How can I put this? You are not a knight in shining armour, riding into battle on a clean white horse, with fine ladies watching your bravery.
On the contrary, you are a slightly ******** child with severe social disfunction, and you will use a short and blunt little knife to stab a crippled old lady in the eyes until she stops streaming and dies of slow blood loss. You will share in the glory with many of your kind, and gang of ******** imps who flock from haunt to haunt, consuming the weak in a frenzy of ********, demented consumption.
This is NOT a criticism of Eve. It is rather a ringing endorsement of it. No other game offers such a spectacle as New Eden. if you want a walk in the human zoo, you are in for a real treat.
And the graphics are amazing. |

My advice would be to train an Alpha character to maximum skill for Frigates in one race and then go out there do some 1vs1 PvP with a Comet.
This is what I do and have lot of fun doing it among my several characters/alts. Mining is a source of income financing the PVP losses. But keep in mind that PvP is most of the time a pure ISK loss activity. Except if you do suicide ganking in a Catalyst where you lose each time but in return you share the loot with your alt which is you as well but with another Alpha character. Easy loop hole in the game to exploit. |

OP, you can literally do any other activity you want to in EvE and mine when you feel like doing so. We get three characters per account letting us set them up to do many things. I have known folks who mine and also do dreadnought pvp, mine and trade, mine and build stuff, mine and small gang frigate roam, mine and explore, etc, etc, etc. You aren't limited to any one thing. Many EvE players do this sort of thing. Jump clones are our friends. Even if you just want to use one character, even an alpha, there are many things you can do while also mining when you feel like it. Trading is something that can easily be done by a mining character with any ship and any budget.

First off, if you are going to be industrial-e, you should do Planetary Interaction. At least for my operations in null-sec it nets me an easy 15 to 20mil profit for about 5-10 minutes worth of work.
The problem you are running into is that of all the industrial aspects in Eve Online, the most "player-related" is mining. Other industrial aspects that work well with mining like trading or construction are largely solo activities. To really enjoy the game, you are either going to have to get involved with a mining corp so that your mining becomes the player-related activity, or get involved with mission-running, incursion, or PVP related player corps.

LOL, such a narrow-minded view on pvp! I see guys kill groups of ppl solo every week. You just describe one situation in pvp and by coincidence, its the one situation that I haven't encountered yet myself, but of course this is how it happens often, but far from always!

What about putting the new character into Faction Warfare? There are several FW corps dedicated to training new chars. This will expose you to a very different aspect of the game and you might find that you like it more than mining. If you do you can use your mining char to do high sec hauling for your FW char or even start building some of his ships.
If it turns out that you don't like FW you could put your new char into mining for a while as mining works much better (and is more interesting and profitable) with multiple characters in your fleet.

That is an interesting analysis. I think it's partially true because you forget the random effect in a fight. Your opponent may have a ship which does not match your power, or the other way around. A single player can waporize an unorganized fleet thank to randomness in encounters where your ship is just faster for the situation, or better equipped. The secret is to quickly assess what fight to engage and which to run away from. That is hard to learn. |

Mining goes well with datacore research. If you can find a corporation that has both R&D and mining agents you can use your mining to gain access to the lvl 4 R&D agents.
If a corporation has both a Mining Agent and Storyline agent in the same solar system (there is usually at least 1 such coincidence per corporation) then I'll try to do the mining missions for that agent until I get the storyline agent mission. Successful completion of the storyline mission can unlock lvl 4 agents very fast.
edit: I would also recommend against PVP for the simple fact you can get a bounty on your miner. It's better to equip an alt using the gear/profits from your miner. |

False on every point.
-Mining is not a crime -The minerals belong to those that take them. -Mining is necessary for the continuity of EVEs economy and community. -The only license a spaceship needs, is a sub.
