Post for pirates and pirate-hunters alike! Recount the first time you podded someone!
I remember my first time. I had just joined TLBC and was moving my stuff to RF-GGF from empire space. At that time I thought I was never to return...
Anyway, I was dead scared of using and losing my new Thorax, so I flew around PF-346 in a poorly outfitted Rifter with two lasers and two M-12s with Heavy Missiles (powerful without limits in my world back then).
So one of the first times there I run into Leyla from Sinister at the gate to Orvolle. According to my corpmates she was cool, and she even invited me to hunt beside her. Another girl from a n00b corp in a Kestrel was there too, also wanting to begin walk down the path of the pirate. So I joined them.
I was dead scared at first. Back in the empire corporations Sinister and m0o were legendary at the time, evil and seemingly invincible in the eyes of the miners. Sinister was a suitable name. And this was also the first time I got to see a battleship up close.
As I said, I was dead scared. Especially after seeing that Scorpion of Leyla rip a cruiser and several frigates apart. I had the button set to warp away should she change her mind concerning me being there.
After a while Leyla left for Orvolle to log off, and just me and that other girl in the Kestrel were left at the gate. After a few minutes an Omen comes warping in.
My heart starts to race as I head for the Omen and targets it. I had been debating with the other gal for quite some time whether to attack or not. We were lucky enough that the Omen was already badly damaged, for the attack that followed must have been an awkward one. In a haze that was battle missiles and rockets were launched (of which most I suspect never even managed to reach the target) and turrets were blazing. However, the Omen got its shields slowly reduced to zero and the matter of finishing the hull of wouldn't have been an issue even for two Velators. The ship exploded and left a shiny little egg behind.
I was amazed at this point - amazed that I hadn't lost security rating. My heart was pounding when I searched through that container the Omen had dropped. The few afterburners and the miners that dropped was quite an income for me at that time.
After even more debate and after having held that pod webified and scrambled we started debating whether we should finish the kill alltogether. I think neither of really wanted to but we spurred each other into it, and in another few seconds the squishy sound of a pod breaking apart roared in my speakers.
I couldn't believe I had actually podded a guy. The n00bish terror I still had for being podded myself ached at the thought I had just inflicted it at another player. But the loot was for real, and so was the sadistic thrill from actually having podded someone.
And thus had the pirate career for Nightfang in TLBC begun. I can tell you now that 150 poddings later, it's more of a job and old habit than it is a thrill. I often have to force the itch I get to target those indies I see every day cruising the super highway. That's the hardest part of having gone legit

Edited by: Lefevre on 30/12/2003 16:15:22 I can't remember the first time I podded someone but the first person to pod me was Vito GF. I was heading to a pirate corp's HQ so I could join them. I was in my first cruiser (a blackbird) and I was a total noob. Then suddenly I get blasted apart at a gate by Vito's Armageddon.

I have also only been podded twice - the first was by j0rt and The Reverend out in the middle of nowhere, the day before m0o got moved across the galaxy. I was in a tristan - they were in tanked up cruisers - all 3 seconds of it were fun :) ----------- "Remember people: Omber is the biggest evil ever created, DO NOT let it get to you!" I had been in eve 3 or 4 days and had my first merlin and my wallet was at around 500k. I believe Tank CEO podded me in Nonni with his scorpian. I remember seeing the tachyons hit my ship and thinking those were the coolest guns in the game since.

I got podded playing jump in tank on a camped arcadia fleet. Not sure of the details to be honest, i never loaded into the jip. I got entering space- heard some missiles launching, then "woke" up in clone facility. Part of the game though. (was anyway) Evolution..... Just when you thought you were winning.

Edited by: Admiral IceBlock on 30/12/2003 18:48:53 Edited by: Admiral IceBlock on 30/12/2003 18:44:02 I remember my First Pod! It was nice and i will always remember it!!
I was 2 Days into the game and i went to New Caldari to Mine in my Bantam! But i heard every1 scream in local about an Ore Thief. And as the Good Guy i was, i Targeted hes Iteron III and fired away... CONCORD didnt show up and Boom, he blew up!!! I screamed in local saying "who wants me to pod him?!". Every1 said Yes so i Targeted him, i was a bit scared but i just pushed the Button, and Boom he went!!! No CONCORD showed up on the Crime Scene, lucky me...
But what i did, was not forgotten. The ppl in hes Corp decleared War on My Corp that had helped me from Minute 9 into the game. Most of my Corp m8's were in Cruisers and could not stand up against the Enemies Battleships. They found us, and we moved.
We contacted a Xanadu Member to help us. We made a Contract that we would give them 10 Mill Trit each week!! Very much for our small corp. In return they said they would give us a Squad of some sort, Black Omega or something. It seems like the Enemy knew this through some kinda mole. They didnt look so happy about it. We moved to a nice place with very few players in and mined. We mined and mined and had a little hope that we would actully get help from Xanadu. But after 3 days of hard work the Enemy found us again. We could see their fleet of 3-4 Battleships and some Cruisers. We didnt stand a chance... We ended up in the Station and logged off. The next day we discussed what would gonna happen. It didnt look like Xanadu were helping us and that left us with no hope. My CEO resigned that day and left EVE!!

First time i podded someone was when i was in a Kestrel.
Me, A Thorax and a Griffin (i think) versus a pirate blackbird in Nonni "oooh scary huh?"
I had the only warp scrambler...
We locked him down, scrambled him...and proceeded to shoot.
And lo and behold the blackbird is taking damage and so is our thorax...
I press F1+F2 and instantly afterwards F3+F4.. 4 cruise missiles comes out of my beautiful shiny kestrel and instantly goes KAABBBOOOOMMMM!
and im a pod floating around.... everyone just stops for about 30 seconds before erupting in laughter and the pirate warps away limping from the confrontation but shocked at being alive!!
that was my most singular hilarious moment in EVE so far to this day :)

I have never been podded, though mOo, sinister, PAK, and SIM have tried on a number of occasions. In self defense I have destroyed some of their ships only because they attacked me first, without provacation and within my territory.
Of course, I would never pod kill anyone (even my enemies) as it shows lack of class. And as far as destroying helpless indies goes, that is just pathetic. Where is the challenge in that?
Why dont you just go back to pulling the limbs off of insects and torturing small animals like you did as a child. Oh wait, that's right you still are children.

Sometimes it's kinda hard to find them, or get around blockades protecting them.
But yeah it's pretty much about the money. And the hilarity of those big twinkies trying to turn around and warp away before you scramble them.

The funny thing is I don't really have to insult you back on this one, for every player in EVE already know you from your expert chaos-combat tips. You are usually quite good at pointing out, in the very same sentence mind you, that while you test on chaos you would never even dare go near 0.0 on TQ.

My first kill was a miracle...me in a thorax and him npc hunting in a moa. I come up behind him at a belt in P3, warp scramble and begin to pound on him with my guns and drones while he launches loads of missiles at me, I left with about 10% armour, his guns, his corpse and a fsint remeberance of "you will pay for this, you dont bleep with the (forgot ) alliance". But it was real pulse racing honest fun. The rest are just a blur
And the only person to pod me is a Space Invader. him in a scorp and me in a rupture at the Golothian fields in Ennur
