Okay, I'm working my way into T2 ships and I'm trying to decide whether I should train Arty Spec or Auto Spec. Yeah yeah, I'll train both eventually but for the time being I'll be focusing on ONE or the OTHER, not trying to train both at the same time. I'm going to concentrate on smaller T2 ships first (Assult Ships, Dictors, HACs) before I move towards Cmd Ships and/or T2 sniping BSs.
I know that Arty has a better range and Alpha Strikes, but ACs have (or seem to have) better sustained DPS over a longer time.
So my question to you is: Whats better for PVP on smaller ships between Arty and Autos?
P.S. Yeah, I'm Caldari but I'm training Minnie ships ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sig being reworked :( Tis to large ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

I'd say it comes down to personal preferance, really, as each has their share of pros and cons.
The best choice would probably reflect whichever you use more frequently on your ships.
Myself, I went to ACs to begin with, as I used them more often than Artillery at the time.

If your going to go for things like Dictors HAC's and Command ships before Battleships then train autocannons. -----------------------------------

Edited by: Wrayeth on 24/04/2007 01:43:27 If you plan to PvP in anything other than fleets, train autos. They have significantly higher DPS and MUCH better tracking. If you're planning to do mostly fleet engagements, use arties (autos are useless at sniping ranges).
As a side note, I'm a Caldari pilot who cross-trained into Minmatar, and now I fly mostly Minmatar ships in PvP. The only Caldari ships I still PvP with are the nighthawk and, to a lesser extent, the raven. I've found that having mobility in PvP greatly increases your survivability, and most Caldari ships are basically immobile. :( -Wrayeth "Look, pa! Thanks guys/gals. Seems like Autos it is as right now I'm not engaged in alot of large sized fleet Ops. And if I am, I'll just pull out the Rokh

I am caldari, and I also fly minmatar ships, so you're kind of in my situation. I like autocannons for sick damage over time, and it allows you to fit nice tanks on your ships. With howitzers you use more powergrid, and you need a web on your ship. Tracking isn't as nice either obviously. But I still really like them because the instant damage at really nice ranges is sick. Muninn can't really tank with 720's but boy is it an insane gang ship. Tracking bonus + Rate of Fire Bonus + Damage Bonus + Howitzers = 'gasm
With the falloff of autocannons, nice dps, and easy fitting, they are always the safe bet. But there is nothing like wrecking for over 1000 damage from 30km away with medium guns.
