OK...so I like eve. Whut?
SO much so infact that I was wondering if anyone out there knows of a mod or tool or just some general tips that allow me to make skill changes to my Char, but in a WORK SAFE manner.
Installing the full blown eve client is one option, but the work computers would never cope. Similarly there is the whole "yes boss, I AM playing a game on company time" thing to consider.
I realise that having third party tools to make char changes is EULABADMONKEY! But that doesn;t mean there aren;t other options out there that aren;t EULABADMONKEY!
Any adivce?!

EVEMon use it to manage your training schedules. It's the best you'll get. Even if you do get some sort of client to install & run, getting it to connect to the cluster through your companies network and/or firewall and/or proxy is the bigger hurdle.

I use UltraVNC, connect to my home desktop from work, its reeeally slow but its okay for changing skills.
What would be quite cool is the option to disable the background in stations, as thats what slows it down.

there is, isn't there?
'do not render inside of station' or some such nonsense?
EDIT: Although why playing over VNC would get around the problem of playing a computer game at work is a mystery to me. if the ports are open and he can install the program better to run locally and get those skills changed a bit quicker so there's less chance of getting caught.

hm... why not compromise? have an option to be able to switch a skill once every 24h or something through the eve website.
Anyways planning your skill, is still your best bet

You can stop the background rotating round your ship, 'Orbit station' I think its called, which helps but you cant turn it off totally.
Also, VNC is a lot quicker to quit/minimise/tab out of than the EvE client. Its also a completely innocent piece of software, which could have legitimate work uses if anyone was to audit your machine.
He also said one of the main reasons he couldnt use the EvE client was because his work machine wouldnt handle it, graphics wise I imagine. I know mine wouldnt..

windows + d is better, since your manager may wonder what you've been doing all day sat at a locked workstation.

I use ultravnc to play eve on my home computer from work(boss doesn't mind).
If you are really worried, both tightvnc and ultravnc(fork) offer a web browser java applet that you can connect to remotely. Then you just keep it open in a tab and no one is the wiser. Might have to worry about ports but you can change those on your server(home machine).

I remember a feature in an old game called "If the boss wanders by". When you pressed the button, you got a fake excel like window that looked very professional.
Maybe EVE should have something similar

I had one of those but i think it was broken, the maint. costs were unreal. After the nightmare of paperwork and charges from returning it, I'll just stick to the Lite version, Girlfriend. They're disposable.

Let's not forget that you can get a VNC client for Symbian, which means you can use your phone, to VNC to your PC at home, to change your skill/set your autopilot.
I used to use VNC, when it was allowed, and EVE wasn't working due to poor graphics cards. Now I use my phone, because VNC is blocked too.

Huh? All this tech mumbo-jumbo. What happened to putting EVE on your iPod or something, then running it off that? It'll be slow as hell, but you can still probably change skills from it.

replace your desktop wallpaper with a screenshot of some suitably work-like backgrounds, and ctrl+d back to them if he does.
you also have to pretend it's crashed, granted, but after a few weeks you can try to wrangle a new PC out of them because of your system's instability and incredibly high network usage.

You may need to upgrade your ManJunk. I've found that early versions of Wife responds to commands better and have far fewer exceptions when your ManJunk is upgraded to it's maximum operating capabilities.
If your system is incapable of running full-blown ManJunk, you might want to give B.O.B. a try (Battery-Operated Boyfriend). Be aware that some versions of Wife become dependant on B.O.B. to function normally once B.O.B. has been installed, and in rare cases (especially those running minimal ManJunk), Wife may uninstall itself, B.O.B., and any other programs it interfaces with regularly. Why there should be a breathalyzer to login to Eve:

I vividly recall in the distant pass someone copying the entirety of his EVE folder onto a USB thumbdrive and running it from the thumbdrive to change skills. Obviously not much of an option if your computer can't run EVE, though.

aye, that works. as does running it off an MP3 player, which i think somebody mentioned earlier in the thread (as removable storage, not on the player's little screen though). You could probably run it off a digital camera too.
edit: i wonder what the strangest thing anybody's ever got Eve running off is?

I got my boss interested into EVE...
He may not play it, but he respects my need for skill change and low-focus mission running.
The EVE guys did say they were preparing a PDA client, without 3D gfx, but enough to trade, change skills etc ...
