Hinik's good with the Icelandic phrases.

I also use one of those online guides to learning icelandic because you can repeat the pronounciation endlessly.
I got to asking if that was my bag and do not sing in the tub.

I tend to find that if you actually have to talk to them, you messed up somewhere along the way. --

I went to Reykjavik in Feb. The most important thing I learnt is that Thule is pronounced Too-lay (or something like that, the memory's a bit hazy).

You're about the third person to say this. Or maybe the second. Is this the general sentiment in Iceland? Seems a bit meanspirited, really. So the deal is you turn up in Reykjavik and attempt, however successfully, to speak to people in their native language and they'll treat you like a retarded tourist and take the ****? Somehow I think not.

Learning Icelandic is not that hard, well, not for me, I come from that place
This stupid school system we got makes sure that we learn English and Danish. So, if you speak those languages you will do fine here. Well, probably not with Danish, most people tend to forget that chapter of horror and misery.
And now my corp is going to get wardecced by every single Danish corp out there, maybe I should use an alt for this....
Nah, I'm just kidding Denmark, you know I love you, most of all Carlsberg.
But we do speak English very very well, especially when you meet us in bars with beer in our hand, that's when we speak perfect English.

Icelanders speak better "English" than the majority of Americans.
At least the ones I spoke to did. So spend your time finding ways to earn additional money to pay for their expensive drinks instead of trying to learn a new language for a short trip.
