Edited by: Plutoinum on 21/05/2007 10:50:05 Don't think, that I like the anti-power ball idea.
We work a lot with remote support/logistic stuff to survive focussed fire of blobs. If people need to spread out, they can't support eachother, but nothing keeps someone from pounding the same target with torps/cruise, drones or mid and long range guns, except you force people to spread out a lot and not only a 20 kilometers.
So I don't think it's gonna work well with battleships, just kills use of remote support and means we are back to being primary in the beginning of a fight = dead in a battleship battle.
( Well, time for me to get into a carrier I think. )

I have to say, for the most part i have left Fleet combat, not because of blob warfare, i enjoyed many of the battles, hey i even managed to get kiled by a titan, ok hey the fc KNEW it was there, he decided to jump us in anyway.
I left Fleet battles because your hardware/software and perhaps some of it my connection from the east coast of america to ccp's servers just made it a huge lagfest. I didnt mind loosing to an enemy if i didnt loose to said enemy because i was lagged out and dint even have time to say huh?
Perhaps thats the real problem... ccp talking out of both sides of its mouth, there is no lag.... but were going to introduce a need for speed initiative. Flet battles are great we want to see more of them..... now lets nerf large fleets.
How about you fix the current problems like LAG before you start introducing these new features.
New fleet commands would be nice, tactical formations also nice, aoe's i dont know enough about them to weigh in on them. How about removing all those macro miners from the system and macro mission runners? i imagine that could help lag issues.
Look at all the known features that are broken.. how about fixing those first.
how about that nice memory leak getting fixed?
All this really means is one less account i have to pay you for now.. hey look, you just reduced lag by one account!.
to quote someone else here in the posts " FIX IT , dont nerf it "

IMO from the testing ive done Heat could be handy for small ships but the tests ive done on test server, no thankyou think a gun just melt and you never even turned it on... WTH! just cause you over charged your repper or anything,, melted a gun, or you injector.... " poof no more injector doto you overcharged something else,
ive got to play with it more but i don't care for it at all. more things to keep track of. YES this does make the need for more fittings. NO its not fun to mess with not bother with the bonus "+10% resists"

Edited by: Tetsujin on 25/05/2007 05:09:22 Would it be possible for a member of the development team to define "blob"?
Do you mean a very large group of people within one system, or perhaps one grid? Or do you mean a clump of spaceships all right next to eachother? Because those generally form in a gang warp...

Kill the idea of the blob, and move towards the idea of a deployed fleet rather than closed fleet, where you have a primary fleet core, secordary fleet and advance fleet spread out over whole areas of space searching for targets (either offensively or defensively), rather than huge great hulking blobs of players looking for the other huge blob.
Tactical considerations in eve are minimal. You need objectives (offensive and defensive) as well as needing a process by which targets have to be located (ie proper recon). At the moment tactical considerations seem to be sending in the small ship and waiting with the main fleet outside the gate (waiting to jump and wtgang)
Currently warfare in eve is about killing other players ships (where as warfare is actually about destroying your enemys capability to fight by destroying and capturing strategical objectives).
If you have to protect x number of assets, as well as destorying enemy assets, and in the meantime trying to locate and prevent an incoming fleet, whilst trying to ensure you by pass their incoming fleet with enough vessels to attack enemy assets, without suffering loss of allied assets. If you can do this properly then the idea of blobs become moot - as tactically you are better off spreading your fleet out into different roles at different sites
(you'd probably split a blob into at least four sections, as well as needing scout vessels and skermishers groups - who could be utilised to by time for the main group to jump through an enemy blockade...).
