A hardware issue eh? Seems to be a lot of them. Maybe you need to start talking to a better vendor.
Any chance that we can get some idea of what goes on during downtime? Just so that we all have some idea why we can't play. I had previously assumed it was just rebooting servers or something, but clearly there are badly QA'd code/hardware shenanigans going on.

TBH your own fault if you planned a skill to complete right after DT, petitioning for stuff like that should be bannable imo, just like sending a petition to harrass the GMs..
it only slows down real issues.. If someone cant take it to loose 2 hours skill time and needs to petition it even though its in the EULA that CCP cant be held responsible for these kinds of things is just lame... IMO *dont hurt me*..

Granted the hardware is different, but the user connections are not likely to be an issue here as there was nobody logged in ffs. Methinks the jobs page should be updated to double the staff in QA.

TBH I think that they backup the data base as it would most likely have to be done when there is nothing accessing it.
Just in case of a catastrophic failure EG: fire, fire, jita lagg, ect.
Also allot of people running with their hands in the air wanting to know where they put down there hypo spanner so they can replace those plasma relays, errrrrrrr Servers

Take all the time you need CCP...please fix the lag while you're at it. Also, while I realize the whole "voice" thingy is getting very popular rapidly, might I suggest adding more capacity to the "system" BEFORE letting that monster loose on a regular basis? Call me an optimist but more hardware might help solve that whole "lag" issue, y'know?
Love the game, love the community...getting nerfed by lag -- not so much.

A decent database would let you do hot backups i.e. while it is still in use. I'm guessing that the Access 97 database used for Eve can also be copied while in use just be copying the .mdb....

I say CCP just shut down the servers for a week, and allow all customers a 1 week increase on their subs. Let them spend that week working in their own environment, deploying and testing fixes without needing such a stringent deadline.
I have worked in similar situations to the ones CCP must adhere too, and must admit that having such a small period of time to deploy and test quickfixes, restart servers, and do the tons of other small things, is a feat almost every time.
So yeh, that's my vote. Will be painful having no eve for a week, but will give CCP some time to really work on getting these kinds of problems solved without needing to rush things to meet such a deadline. The only downfall to that, is the fact that systems most commonly break under heavy load, or when players are performing less common tasks (copying bm's, creating can lag, mass login-logoffs, etc) so it will never be able to give the optimal testing conditions.
That's my vote!

People like you should be banned - I can't see anything in this person's post that invited a response from You - why don't you do the world some good and go get a job. There is enough things wrong in Eve at the moment without you being 1 of them.
